Lindsay Lohan has received a semi-positive review for her new movie The Canyons, written by American Psycho novelist Bret Easton Ellis. Essentially, the movie has been slaughtered by critics though one man - Scott Foundas of Variety.com - found something worth praising.

"The guerrilla shoot seems to have reinvigorated Schrader, and the result is his most stylish picture in years, probably since Auto Focus," wrote Foundas, who went on to gush about the performance of Lohan, even comparing her to Oscar winning actor Marlon Brando.

'The major exception is Lohan, who gives one of those performances, like Marlon Brando's in "Last Tango in Paris," that comes across as some uncanny conflagration of drama and autobiography.

"Lohan may not go as deep or as far as Brando, but with her puffy skin, gaudy hoop earrings and thick eye makeup, there's a little-girl-lost quality to the onetime Disney teen princess that's very affecting. Whenever she's onscreen, she projects a sense of just barely holding on to that precarious slide area in the shadow of the Hollywood sign," he concluded.

Unfortunately for Lohan, the other critics were quite so happy to compare her to Hollywood greats. "Lohan's performance is certainly terrible, but her steady slide started long ago," wrote Eric Kohn for Indiewire, "Here, Lohan is as bland and unfocused as the material. During the one scene that allows her [to] degrade her oppressive boyfriend, her robotic delivery freezes the possibilities of bonafide tension (as well as titillation, for whatever that's worth)," he added.

Watch The Canyons trailer:

"It's this sort of non-entertaining, pseudo-arty film that partially is responsible for the shuttered and abandoned movie theaters that symbolically adorn the opening and closing credits," wrote Todd McCarthy for The Hollywood Reporter.

Nevertheless, Lohan was so happy with Scott Foundas' review that she tweeted it out to her fans on Sunday, saying she was "humbled and feeling so much gratitude."
