Rock 'n' roll veteran Little Richard's childhood home is to be relocated to make way for the construction of a new highway in Georgia.

The Tutti Frutti hitmaker's former house in MACon was facing demolition by bosses at the Georgia Department of Transportation due to the planned expansion of Interstate 75, but now local officials have decided to spare the historical residence, built in 1920, by moving the two-bedroom home three blocks away, where it will be renovated and converted into a neighbourhood meeting place.

It will also feature information about its famous former owner, according to Reuters.

The 80 year old, real name Richard Penniman, now lives in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
