Liza Minnelli performed with a broken wrist last night (14.10.13).

The 67-year-old star took to the stage with her half-sister Lorna Luft - who is battling breast cancer - for a cancer research event, despite breaking her wrist in three places while rehearsing at home on Sunday night (13.10.13),

The entertainer was determined to please the crowds at the Birdland jazz club New York City and support her sibling despite doctors' orders warning her not to perform, insisting she should instead give her wrist time to heal.

She said: ''Nothing was going to stop me from coming here tonight. Lorna asked me to be here and I wouldn't let her down.''

Lorna, 60, was hosting the event for The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative and Tower Cancer Research Foundation's Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund, and was delighted to be performing with Liza for the first time in 20 years.

E! news quotes her as saying: ''This event means the world to me. I'm so grateful to be feeling so well and performing again.''

Lorna previously insisted on the importance of bravery when combating the disease, although she admitted it can be difficult to remain upbeat.

She said: ''Your attitude has so much to do with your recovery, because it's really easy to curl up in a ball, and stay in bed.

''The hard part is saying, 'I'm not going to do this and I'm going to fight this, I'm going to make fun of it, and I'm going to laugh, I'm going to have a sense of humour'. It's amazing how your attitude really will lead to your recovery.''
