One Direction star Louis Tomlinson is asking for privacy for his five-month-old son Freddie Reign, as his custody battle with ex Briana Jungwirth begins. In a statement obtained by People, a rep for Tomlinson said he wants his son to "have a normal, private and protected childhood.”

The statement says that the "the levels of paparazzi attention on Freddie" pose security issues and are "intolerable and completely unjustifiable." The attention put on Freddie is said to be impacting on Tomlinson’s visitation time and is impinging on the baby's day-to-day life, including doctor's visits.

"Louis appreciates, respects and values his relationship with the media and we hope he and his son are afforded the same respect on this matter," the spokesperson says. Freddie was born in January to Tomlinson’s ex Briana Jungwirth.

Last week it was reported that Tomlinson had filed for joint custody of Freddie, asking for 50/50 physical and legal custody between him and Jungwirth. A source told People that Tomlinson’s legal action came as visits with his son became ‘increasingly erratic’.

The custody agreement that Tomlinson and Jungwirth originally had is said to have become ‘complicated’ once Tomlinson began dating actress Danielle Campbell. "When Louis started dating Danielle, Briana was upset and that's when the drama started," the source told People.
