With new Star Wars Episode VII plot details flying around the rumor mill, fanfare surrounding the film is starting to build
J.J. Abrams has been incrementally dripping visual information regarding the upcoming reboot, Star Wars: Episode VII; we’ve had a glimpse at a bustling Tattooine marketplace and a chess table from the Millennium Falcon. Now, while talking about Ep. VII’s competition via Omaze, fans got a peek at a new breed of X-Wing.

Standing in front of the new ship, Abrams makes one final plea for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike to get involved in a competition “to create a brighter tomorrow for thousands of kids and families around the world” by supporting UNICEF’s Innovation Labs.
You'd think they'd have bothered to double-check the name spelling of the recipient of the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'!
Whoever was in charge of the captioning at last night's BET Awards should hang their head in shame after they misspelled the name of the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award, Lionel Richie. During the televised coverage of the Black Entertainment Television Awards on Sunday night (29th June), which was watched by millions around the world, the broadcasting team managed to spell Richie's surname as "Ritchie."
Sure, plenty of worse things could have happened, but it's still a pretty embarrassing move considering Richie was practically the guest of honor at the bash. To make matters worse, the mistake flashed on the screen in large lettering as the 65 year-old soul star headed to collect his prize.
Soon the hashtag "#lionelritchie" began trending on Twitter as viewers picked up on the blunder and quickly spread the news leading to embarrassment for the show's production team.

The headline acts comprise a host of last year’s most prominent nominees and winners: Lupita Nyong’o, who stunned with her performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s moving drama ‘12 Years a Slave’, Barkhad Abdi, whose turn as an uncompromising Somali pirate provided a perfect foil for Tom Hanks in ‘Captain Phillips’ and Pharrell Williams, who imbued Despicable Me with an irresistibly catchy soundtrack, have all been invited in and could vote for next year's nominees and winners.
Lupita Nyong'o has discussed 'Star Wars', the Academy Awards and Shakespeare in her cover interview with Vogue. Here are 5 things we didn't know about the '12 Years A Slave' actress before.

There was plenty of drama on the high seas of celebrity this week, but is one 'Game of Thrones' star about to ride the waves?
Critics' Choice Awards: Last night's Critics' Choice Awards saw the year's best and brightest in television honoured for outstanding performances and shows. Dark humoured crime series Fargo and prison drama Orange Is The New Black were the clear frontrunners with three awards each. Matthew Mcconaughey predictably took home the Best Actor honour for creepy crime thriller True Detective whilst Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany repeated her 2013 victory with the corresponding female award. Read our run-down of the highlights here.
Tracy Morgan Improving: Comedian Tracy Morgan's condition in hospital has been upgraded by doctors to "fair" after he was left fighting for his life in the wake of a tragic crash that killed his friend, mentor and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair on June 7. Morgan, McNair, comedian Ardie Fuqua, Morgan's assistant Jeff Millea, and one other were all involved in the early hours crash that involved a Walmart truck and an allegedly sleep-deprived driver. The '12 Years a Slave' star appears in a stunning shoot and opens up in a new Vogue interview.
Lupita Nyong'o has landed her first Vogue magazine cover entitled "Her incredible break out year." Arguably the culmination of months of appearing at the top of best-dressed lists, Lupita's Vogue spread is a well-timed tribute that fossilises the Hollywood newcomer's impact on showbiz and fashion in the best year.
As well as confirming her relationship with the rapper K'Naan, Lupita also discussed the fallout of the rapid rise to fame and mused upon her lost anonymity. Asked if she had had a completely surreal year, she laughed "Indeed I did. It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life. People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me-before I recognized them!"
A great deal of attention has been given to the 31 year-old star's daring red carpet outfits, which always reflect her ambitious, optimistic and colourful personality. She discussed "epic six-hour fittings" with her stylist Micaela Erlanger, saying "We'd just try, try, try, try, try, try, try. At first it was very daunting, but I ended up really having fun with it."
Chancellor George Osborne is excited about a new Star Wars spin-off, but not in the same way sci-fi geeks are. In fact, he announced the news that it would be filmed in the U.K via Twitter with the hashtag “#LongTermEconomicPlan”. Exciting, huh?
The spin-off, which has been rumoured to centre on one of Star Wars’ iconic supporting characters; Han Solo and Boba Fett have been heavily rumoured. Mr Osborne said: “Lucasfilm and Disney’s decision to shoot the Star Wars standalone movie in the UK is testament to the incredible talent in Britain,” in a statement. “This will mean more jobs and more investment. It is great news for people working at Pinewood Studios, from the set designers to the carpenters.”
Brad Pitt and Lupita Nyong'o will team together for the second time for the film adaption of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's acclaimed novel 'Americanah.'
Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o will reunite with 12 Years a Slave co-star/producer Brad Pitt to star in a film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah. In 2014 Americanah was shortlisted for the Bailey’s Women’s Prize for Fiction and focuses on the relationship between young Nigerian couple Ifemelu and Obinze. Torn apart by immigration and circumstance they spend many years apart, will the time and distance have separated them forever?
Lupita Nyong'o has been cast to star in the film adapation of Americanah, which will be made by Brad Pitt's production company
Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B, the company behind 12 Years a Slave, will make the film and Nyong’o is pegged to star in, as well as produce, the project. The actress released a statement saying it is an “honour to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to the screen.” She continued, “Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so fill of love, humour and heart.”
Nyong'o's busy 2015 just got even busier.
Lupita Nyong’o and Brad Pitt will be reunited once more as the 12 Years a Slave stars combine on ‘Americanah’, an adaptation of Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's acclaimed novel of the same name. Nyong’o will star and produce, while Brad Pitt’s Plan B - the company behind the Oscar-winning slave drama - will make the film.

Adichie's book is certainly ripe for adaptation; it won the 2013 US National Book Critics Circle award for fiction and was named one of the 10 best books of the year by The New York Times Book Review, the BBC and Newsday. Adichie is the 36-year-old author of Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun, which has also recently been made into a film.

It looks like JJ Abrams and his team are building a full-size Millennium Falcon for the new movie.
We have been given our first look at the brand new Millennium Falcon that is being built for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, thanks to an alleged photo leak TMZ has published. The new shots, which are purported to feature full-size space vehicles from the sci-fi franchise, have strongly hinted that Han Solo's iconic spaceship and others will be included in Jj Abrams upcoming reboot.
If the photos are real, they are evidence that Abrams' team has decided to create full-size versions of the vehicles that George Lucas' movies only made in miniature model sizes. It will also indicate that Episode VII will use minimal CGI effects in favour of high spec props and spacecraft models. Eagle-eyed observers also spotted what looks like an X-Wing starfighter amongst the other unknown constructions.
The photos were evidently taken in some kind of cavernous hangar which fans are speculating could be England's Pinewood Studios, where much of the movie's filming will take place. Vast sets are shown being built out of wood and covered with ladders and scaffolding as Abrams' vision slowly takes form.

Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie have been cast in 'Star Wars Episode VII.' But who will the actresses play?
After months of speculation it’s finally been confirmed that Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o will be joining the cast of Star Wars Episode VII. The actress, who won the award for her role in 12 Years a Slave, announced the news herself on her Twitter account, telling fans, “I can finally say it out loud and proud: I’m going to a galaxy far far away!” Lupita’s name had continually cropped up in Star Wars Episode VII cast discussions and many fans had been surprised to not see her name on the first cast list revealed by director JJ Abrams.
Lupita wasn’t the only new cast member announced. Popular Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie has also been signed up for the new Star Wars film. Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy said, “I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII…It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
Lupita Nyong'o had long been rumoured to be joined the cast of Star Wars Episode VII
Way to recover from a tight spot, J.J. Abrams and co.
Good news for Star Wars fans, Lupita fans and just people who enjoy good things in general – Lupita Nyong’o has joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. Kudos to whoever is making the casting decisions there, by the way. After the original casting was criticised for basically populating the film with all white men, hiring the most promising young Oscar winner of 2014 is probably the best way to recover.
Nyong'o and her impeccable style at Liberty State Park.
And in other “awesome ladies, who we’d love to see kick all the tail in Star Wars,” Gwendolyn Christie, aka Game of Thrones’ Brienne of Tarth, has also been cast in Episode VII. Sidenote: if you’re not a fan of Christie/Brienne, we’re not saying you’re wrong, but you definitely aren’t right.
The rumours were right all along.
Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie have finally been added to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It has been rumoured for some time that 12 Years a Slave star Lupita had been picked for the sci-fi reboot in her first live action role since winning her Oscar this year and now we have the confirmation.
In the latest wave of casting announcements since the big reveal at the end of April, Lupita is joined by Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie in Jj Abrams addition to George Lucas' much-loved franchise. "I can finally say it out loud and proud: I'm going to a galaxy far far away!" Nyong'o excitedly posted via Instagram.
Emma Watson recently graduated from Brown University. What are some other celebs that have pursued a higher education?
It’s no Hogwarts, but it just might be the next best thing. Actress Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the hit franchise Harry Potter, recently graduated from the Ivy League school Brown University for a degree in English literature. Enrolling in the school in 2009, the degree had been a work in progress as Watson took breaks in between to finish off the remaining Harry Potter films, and she even worked on her schooling abroad as she studied at Oxford University in England, as well. You’d think adapting to the college life could be difficult for someone with such a star status, but Watson said it was pretty easy adjusting. "I've never even been asked for an autograph on campus," she said in an interview in 2013. "I threw a party for nearly 100 students and not a single person put a photo on Facebook."
Emma Watson graduated from Brown University
Watson joins the list of quite a few celebrities that have graduated from top tier schools, and it’s an admirable accomplishment whether it was done before they became famous, or after. In fact, there’s probably a ton of your favorite celebrities that you never even knew had a degree in some weird categories completely unrelated to their career choice. Either way, for these actors and musicians, they’ve proven that at one point or another, an A mark was once a more important accolade than an Oscar or a Grammy.

Doesn't get dumber than this.
As one of the biggest, most critically acclaimed and most decorated films of 2013, 12 Years a Slave was always going to be a big DVD release, but someone working for the supermarket chain Sainsbury’s perhaps got a little bit too enthused, dressing up a mannequin in clothes similar to those worn by Chiwitel Ejiofor and his co-stars in the hard-hitting slave drama.
Chiwitel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender in '12 Years a Slave'
It didn’t take long for a shopper to see the hugely distasteful promotional stand, take a snapshot on their phone and upload it to Twitter for the world to see. The mannequin – which appeared at a branch in Oxford – was clad with a ripped, loose fitting beige shirt and three quarter-length trousers. The worst part – a twig protruding from the shirt.
Lupita's Met Ball dress if you're loving it or loathing it, you're still certainly talking about it.
At the Met Gala on Sunday night, Oscar winner and the fashion world’s latest muse, Lupita Nyong’o divided opinion with her choice of Prada dress. Do you love it? Or do you hate it? The intent is divided as is the fashion world. Has Lupita made her first big fashion fail, or was this one a red carpet risk worth taking?
Lupita's flapper inspired Prada dress
There was only one real star to come out of this year’s awards season, Lupita Nyong’o. It wasn’t just because of her award winning performance in 12 Years A Slave that all eyes were on Lupita. It was also because, at every awards show on every red carpet she stepped on to, Lupita hit a fashion home run with her choice of gown. Red Chanel at the Golden Globes, emerald green Dior at the BAFTA’s and her breathtaking sky blue Oscar’s Prada, Lupita nailed it every time on the red carpet.

Zac Efron and Lupita Nyong'o have long been rumoured to be joining the 'Star Wars: Episode VII' cast. Does JJ Abrams casting announcement on Tuesday really count them out, or is there still (a new) hope?
Zac Efron and Lupita Nyong’o had both been heavily tipped to be joining the cast of Star Wars Episode VII. So, imagine our surprise when the cast was announced earlier this week but their names weren’t on the list! Although Jj Abrams has announced a string of actors billed to appear in his upcoming movie, there are rumours that the casting announcement isn’t yet complete. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Abrams “has another substantial role to fill - and it’s a female part.” How much truth there is to this report is obviously debatable, but we do know that there’s been strong evidence suggesting both Nyong’o and Efron will be joining the cast.
Is the Episode VII cast complete, or will there be a second announcement?
Nyong’o was reported to have met with director Abrams in March when they discussed the Oscar-winning actress playing one of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s offspring. Lupita is probably the hottest actress around at the moment, fresh off her Academy Award win for her performance in 12 Years a Slave. Although Lupita met with Abrams in March, she hasn’t been the only female actress rumoured to have landed a role in Episode VII. Newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers’ name has also cropped up a few times. It’s not too unlikely for a fairly unknown actress to be cast, since relatively unheard of Daisy Ridley was announced as a main cast member on Tuesday.

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are all in the UK: could it be..?
Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are all currently in London, prompting speculation over whether the original Star Wars trio will be reuniting to film Jj Abrams' upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. Abrams' new instalment to George Lucas' sci-fi films is about to begin shooting just outside of the English capitol at the legendary Pinewood Studios nearby.
Carrie Fisher Has Told Friends She'll Be Filming In The UK For 6 Months.
Not that any of the three have been particularly trying to disguise themselves, but there has been no grand fanfare upon the actors' touch-down in the UK. Since the franchise reboot was announced they have been rumoured to be involved, which is why their recent sightings seems to much of a coincidence.

Lawrence lip syncs to Santana's 'Evil Ways' in a previously unseen clip.
Jennifer Lawrence has delighted owners of the recently released American Hustle DVD by appearing in one of the disc's deleted scenes lip-synching to Santana whilst wearing rubber gloves and cleaning. Those who have seen the film will remember a similar, shorter scene where Jennifer mimes and dances to Wings' 'Live and Let Die' in front of her bemused son but the extended 'Evil Ways' clip goes all the way.

One of the program’s most distinguished graduates is Lupita Nyong’o, who recently picked up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 12 Years a Slave, playing Patsy – a black woman in a country ruled by white men. She is the object of Edwin Epps’ (Michael Fassbender) twisted affection, and will be remembered in particular for two scenes: one in which she attempts to justify going AWOL to steal soap; and the other, a result of that ‘disobedience’ in a harrowing lashing scene.
We know who won the awards, but who was best dressed at the Oscars?
The Oscars always forces the stars bring out their fashion A-game and last night’s Academy Awards was no exception. From Lupita Nyong’o wowing in blue to Angelina Jolie shimmering in gold, this year’s Oscars red carpet was a fashionista’s dream which brought out the best dressed in tinsletown for one star studded catwalk.

The Ellen DeGeneres Oscars Selfie: did Jennifer Lawrence have the best pose or was it Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt...or Kevin Spacey?
Pretty much everyone has seen the Ellen Degeneres Oscars selfie by now; the celeb-packed pic that sent the Twittersphere into melt-down and quickly became the most retweeted image of all time. The Oscars host somehow gathered the cream of the awards' red carpet for last night's impromptu snap, which has become the evening's most shared and talked about image.
Ellen DeGeneres Oscar Selfie Has Become The Most-Shared Image On Twitter.
The glory of the Oscars selfie lies in the pure and unabashed joy seen on every one of its twelve featured Hollywood stars' faces. No awards? No matter! Brangelina was centre of attention at the Oscars.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie once again made sure all eyes were on them at last night's Academy Awards as they led the Hollywood royalty down the red carpet whilst looking very much the loved-up pair. The acting duo were virtually inseparable when posing for photos on the red carpet, making sure they were always touching and flashing dazzling smiles.
Brad Pitt & Angelina Echoed The BAFTAs In Their Oscars Union.
After last month's BAFTAs in London where the couple appeared in a matching tuxedo ensemble, Angelina decided to opt for a more feminine look at the Oscars and picked out a sparkling metallic and sheer gown by Elie Saab Haute Couture with diamond earrings and smoky eyes. Brad, as usual, played it safe with another classic and well-cut tuxedo and bowtie.
Lupita Nyong'o won her first Academy-Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in '12 Years A Slave.'
In a year which has seen arguably one of the greatest showcases of cinematic achievements, there are several performances that have stood among the rest, and two of those are from a couple of Hollywood's newest rising stars.
Even though there were five nominees for the honor, all eyes were on two actresses, Jennifer Lawrence and the fairly unknown Lupita Nyong'o.
Nyong'o won her first Oscar
Nyong'o received the Breakthrough Performance Award and got real in her speech.
This year’s Oscars famously mark the third time that a POC has been nominated for the Best Director Award in the show’s history. As Steve McQueen competes for the top honor, the stars of his 12 Years a Slave – Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong’o are also the favorites in their own categories – Lead Actor and Supporting Actress. And because even this qualifies as an unusually diverse lineup of nominees, the topic of skin color has tended to come up a lot in the past few months.
Nyong'o would like to be a role model to young girls in her position.
Instead of shying away from a subject that she clearly finds difficult, Lupita Nyong’o faced it head on, as she addressed the guests at Essence Magazine’s seventh annual Women in Hollywood luncheon.

With a premise not much more believable than Snakes on a Plane, this slickly made thriller entertains us from start to finish by never flinching once. It may be utterly ridiculous, but it's played with full-on dedication by a gifted cast and a filmmaker who knows how to ramp up tension out of thin air, so to speak. Yes, it's utterly idiotic, but it's so much fun that we want a sequel even before this film crashes to the ground.
Relapsed alcoholic Air Marshal Bill (Neeson) has far too much personal baggage as he heads to work on a trans-Atlantic flight. Still grieving over his daughter's death as he drinks a bit of coffee with his whiskey, his hopes of a quiet flight are soon dashed when he receives an in-flight text threatening to kill a passenger every 20 minutes if he doesn't pay a huge ransom. So he kicks into action-man gear. But things start getting seriously surreal as he struggles to find anyone on the plane who doesn't look shifty. He seeks assistance from steely stewardess Nancy (Dockery) and too-helpful passenger Jen (Moore). But everyone begins to wonder if Bill might be the real villain here.
Filmmaker Collet-Serra packs the screen with red herrings, as all of the passengers fire wary glances at each other, moan about the general chaos of the flight and do all of those stupid things that make air travel so tiresome. The only thing missing is a screaming baby. Not that you'd hear it above the crazed panic this cat-and-mouse situation induces. It's so frantic that we barely have time to wonder how someone could get on a plane with a briefcase full of cocaine. Or a bomb. So we just hang on as the turbulence escalates.
