After proving his acting chops in Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin has marked his foray into music with the ultimate tribute band to The Velvet Underground: The Pizza Underground. Culkin has teamed up with Matt Colbourn, Phoebe Kreutz, Deenah Vollmer, and Austin Kilham to create a pizza themed Velvet Underground group.

However, this isn't your usual 5-piece, 2 guitars, a singer and a bassist set-up: no siree. Of course, Macaulay plays the kazoo but that isn't even the most outlandish instrument The Pizza Underground has to offer seeing as one of the members plays that most percussive vessel; the pizza box. On The Pizza Underground's Band Camp page, it lists Matt Colbourn as "guitar/vocals," Phoebe Kreutz on "glockenspiel/vocals," Deenah Vollmer "pizza box/vocals," Austin Kilham with "tambourine/vocals" and Macaulay Culkin on "percussion/kazoo/vocals."


After his successful career as a child star it's probably no great shakes for Macaulay whether the band progresses anywhere beyond the local boozer but the band is apparently keen to point out that they have been a unit since February 2012 and weren't formed as a reaction to Lou Reed's recent death.

Their Tumblr page features reams of images merging Velvet Underground artwork and pizzas, including the iconic Andy Warhol-designed The Velvet Underground where the clever copyists have subsitituted the yellow banana for an anchovy. The Pizza Underground's repertoire apparently includes songs like 'I'm Beginning to Eat the Slice,' 'Waiting for the Delivery Man' and 'Pizza Day.'

With gigs listed on the group's Twitter page, it seems that Culkin's group have managed to exist under the radar for some time, perhaps owing to their apparent fondness for blacked-out Ray Bans.
