Madonna will perform at the Grammy Awards.

The 'Material Girl' singer had kept her inclusion on the star-studded bill for the huge music event on Sunday (26.01.14) a secret until this morning (24.01.14).

She accompanied the announcement with a picture on Instagram of her dressed all in black - including leather gloves - and strumming a black guitar.

Underneath she wrote: ''It's official. I'm off my crutches and looking for the perfect pair of heels to wear to the Grammys.''

The singer had to be assisted with walking when she bruised a bone in her foot, which she claimed was ''from dancing in high heels''.

Last month it was rumoured Madonna would appear with Beyonce, who was also confirmed to appear earlier this week. However, many fans initially thought Beyonce would take to the stage with her husband, Jay Z, prompting speculation all three could be working on a special collaboration.

Madonna - who has previously won seven Grammy awards - last performed at the annual event in 2006.

Also on the bill this year are Katy Perry, Lorde, Robin Thicke, Chicago, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons as well as legendary The Beatles musicians Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

There will also be a collaboration between Daft Punk, Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams, while heavy metal band Metallica will perform with pianist Lang Lang.

The 56th annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by LL Cool J and broadcast live on the CBS network in the US from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
