Manic Street Preachers

A week in music videos... Manic Street Preachers teamed up with Richard Hawley for the nostalgic title track from their upcoming new album 'Rewind The Film'. It has that classic Preachers mix of anthemic melodies and melancholic undertones that have kept them high in the UK album charts since their debut in 1992. Looking at their latest track, this new offering is going to be just as impossible to categorise musically as usual - but we like it that way! Watch the video for 'Rewind The Film' here.

If a perfect summer 2013 song exists, it's Dan Croll's 'In/Out'. It doesn't feature on his debut EP 'From Nowhere' which we're hoping means there's going to be some talk of a debut album soon. We defy you not to move to this calypso inspired dance track, the video for which features karaoke style lyrics - if you don't find this infectiously upbeat tune catchy enough. Prepare to be enchanted with Katy B's acoustic session video for her hit track 'What Love is Made Of'. We might have already fallen in love with the song in all its glory after its masses of airplay, but Katy's new single captured with her raw vocals and beautiful piano accompaniment brings a whole new depth to it. It is due to feature on her upcoming second album that is no doubt one of the most highly-anticipated sophomore offerings of the year. Keep an eye out for further details. 30 Seconds to Mars take their new song 'End Of All Days' to church during an unorthodox intimate live gig. It's from their latest album 'Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams' which reached the top 10 in most countrys' charts including number 6 in the US and number 5 in the UK. It is a markedly appropriate song to be sung in a place of worship with Jared Leto screaming, 'All we need is faith/ Faith is all we need', with the small selection of fans cheering and applauding as respectfully as they can. The boys are currently set for some much larger gigs on their 'Mars Is Coming!' world tour. Watch the live video for End Of All Days here.

DJ Muggs

Albums of the week... Cypress Hill producer DJ Muggs has arrived with his first solo album in ten years entitled 'Bass For Your Face'. It marks his transference into the digital age after a long career of analogue set ups on which he created some truly genre-defining music. He may be seeking out solo projects now, but that doesn't mean it's over for Cypress Hill who currently have another album in the works after they wrap up their summer Unity Tour. Our reviewer Andy Peterson said, 'With DJ Muggs willing to keep learning his trade exponentially like some crazy hip hop Neo, for one of the old skool's true professors, the sky's still the limit.' Miles Kane returns with his second studio album 'Don't Forget Who You Are' - the follow up to his debut 'Colour of the Trap' which was widely acclaimed by critics everywhere. As second albums go, there was a lot of pressure on him to really develop his sound and achieve something seminal like his Paul Weller-esque peers. There's always room for improvement, but Miles has definitely managed to refine his sound a lot more - definitely worth it as he's now entered into the top 10 on the UK album chart. Critic Chantelle Pattemore puts it bluntly: 'This second record demonstrates an element of maturity as he strays from relying solely on the retro feel which featured heavily previously.' Prefer something a bit heavier? Well, you're in luck because heavy is an understatement when it comes to CB6's latest album 'Succession'. It's a politically motivated offering, with references to their own strong feelings on the monarchy and royalism, both in their lyrics and their striking King Harold album artwork. The Essex four-piece are currently rocking out with their devil horns in the air on their UK and Europe summer tour. According to reviewer Harry Hawcroft, 'CB6 have created a debut album worthy of recognition, paying their respects to classic thrash whilst maintaining a fresh new sound.' Pitchfork Festival

In the news... It's Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend (19th - 21st July 2013) and festival goers have a lot to look forward to with exciting sets from headliners Bjork, Belle & Sebastian and R. Kelly. It takes place at Chicago's Union Park and there are still day tickets available for each day at $50. There's also some great new emerging artists showcasing their stuff including Joanna Newsom, Woods and M.I.A. Read the full story here.

It's bad news for all you Spotify lovers out there as Thom Yorke has made the decision to remove all Radiohead songs from the streaming service, complaining on Twitter, 'It's bad for new music. The reason is that new artists get paid f**k all with this model.' It's a perfectly reasonable point of view to take for emerging artists, but he's been accused of hypocrisy after previously releasing a free album that some people have taken to be de-valuing music and sending out the wrong message. On the other side of the spectrum, Jay-Z has now announced the UK and Europe October dates for his Magna Carta Tour. He is promoting his 2013 album 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' which became his first UK number 1 hit on its release this month (July 2013) and features collaborations with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean and Beyonce. In more festival news, Eric Clapton is taking his 2013 Crossroads Guitar Festival to screen as clips from the event earlier this year are set to be shown in select cinemas around the US in August. Tickets for the live event were sold out within minutes of them being on sale, with music fans around the world grabbing the chance to see the likes of The Allman Brothers Band, Blake Mills, Booker T., Gary Clark Jr., Jeff Beck, John Mayer, Keith Richards and Keith Urban, among many others, in all their guitar glory.
