'Suicide Squad' characters are set to make an appearance in 'Gotham'.

TV producers are clearly keen to ride the wave of the DC comic adaptations' recent success as they have revealed they plan to introduce both Harley Quinn and Killer Croc into the series that first aired in 2014.

'Gotham's executive producer Ken Woodruff explained that they planned to weave the characters into the programme's narrative through the Indian Hill research facility situated under Arkham Asylum that experiments on humans and monsters.

Speaking to Deadline, Woodruff said: ''The Indian Hill that exists in 'Gotham', that's the bridge to these villains like killer Croc and Solomon Grundy.''

The producers said that the two 'Suicide Squad' characters would be 'proto-versions' - much like Jerome in the last series of 'Gotham', who is never specifically referred to as The Joker, but he has all of the villain's characteristics and acts more like a prototype of the infamous baddie.

Executive producer John Stephens explained: ''It's about developing the myth of the Joker, just like we're developing the myth of Batman. It's so we can stretch him over multiple seasons. The cult of The Joker began, and we'll explore how that deepens and changes this year. There are underground movements where they talk about Jerome.''

It is not thought that either Margot Robbie or Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will reprise their role of Harley Quinn or Killer Croc for the show.

The third season of the 'Gotham' will premiere on 19 September 2016, but the 'Suicide Squad' characters are not expected this time around.
