Is Axl Rose Really The World's Best Singer?

Axl Rose Guns N Roses Mariah Carey Prince Steven Tyler Kanye West

Axl Rose is infamous for many reasons. His constant late appearances, sometimes taking to the stage almost two hours after their billed start, means every recent Guns n’ Roses tour is dogged by disgruntled fans and a swathe of bad press. The singer is notorious for his cantankerous temperament which has resulted in numerous cancelled appearances and YouTube-worthy angry rants that would give even Kanye West’s irritable soliloquys a run for their money. He is so surrounded by criticism that it is no surprise the frontman’s vocal attributes are often overlooked.

Axl Rose Performing At The Hard Rock Hotel, Las VegasRose has posted a bashful response to the award of "World's Best Singer"

Now, the singer has been named as the best vocalist of all time on a recently published chart, an accolade that is extremely misleading given the nature of the basis for which the award has been meted out to the rock legend. The award is based on versatility in vocal range rather than any consideration for tone, grain or strength which are commonly considered as the most endearing vocal traits.

Before the show, Carey tweeted a picture of herself in her glamorous, figure hugging outfit, adding the caption: “At Rehearsals for the #BEThonors #GLambly”.

American Idol is now back and focussing on the only thing that really matters on the talent show: the contestants. Mariah Carey 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' Approaches 1 Million Sales [Video]

Mariah Carey Michael Buble Justin Bieber Miley Cyrus

A testament to a good single is its longevity in the charts and it looks like Mariah Carey's Christmas classic, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' could be well-placed for the best Christmas song of all time as sales of the 1994 track quickly approach one million copies in the United Kingdom.

The song is Mariah's biggest single to date, with an estimated 12 million copies sold worldwide, also making it one of the highest-selling songs of all time. However, upon its release in 1994, Mariah was pipped to the post in the charts by London boyband East 17 and their 'Stay Another Day.'

After selling a respectable 306,000 copies in six weeks, 'All I Want For Christmas.' dropped out of the top 40. Thanks to digital downloads and the song's firm reputation as a Christmas karaoke must-have, the heart-warming track returned to the Official Singles Chart some 13 years after its original release to peak at Number 4 and has similarly re-emerged every December since 2007, according to the Official Charts Company.

'Selfie' Is The Word Of The Year: Charting Its Rise To The Top

2013 is the year of the 'selfie,' the Oxford English Dictionary reckons at least, as the word used to describe a self-shot photograph has been named as the word of the year by the established dictionary authority. According to the Oxford English Dictionary web page, the decision to adopt selfie as word of the year was a " unanimous" decision, noting a 17,000 per cent increase in the usage of the word over the past 12 months.

Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey is one star who has helped boost the 'selfie' craze

The powers at the Oxford English Dictionary have gone on to chart the rise of the word selfie, tracing its origins to a 2002 ABC Online forum posting. The word experts noted the wider use of the word in 2003 and its adoption into common usage by 2012, but it isn't until 2013 that selfie has become worthy of the Word of the Year title. It beat such buzzwords as 'bitcin,' 'showrunning' and the ever popular 'twerk' to emerge victorious, but what is it that has made 2013 the year of the selfie?

The Butler Review

Good

This is an strangely slushy movie from Lee Daniels, whose last two films (Precious and The Paperboy) bristled with unexpected life. By contrast, this star-packed drama uses a true story to trace the Civil Rights struggle from the 1950s to the present day. But it's been so fictionalised that it feels kind of like a variation on Forrest Gump.

Cecil Gaines (Whitaker) grew up on a Georgia cotton plantation, where the cruel master's kindly mother (Redgrave) taught him to be a house servant. Years later, he marries Gloria (Winfrey) and moves to Washington DC, where he gets a job in the White House as a butler to presidents from Eisenhower (Williams) to Reagan (Rickman). His job description is simple: "You hear nothing, you see nothing, you only serve." And yet as the nation grapples with its racist culture, he has a quiet influence on each leader who moves through the house.

Whitaker narrates the film in drawling flashbacks, while the story flickers between Cecil and his eldest son Louis (Oyelowo), an activist who is involved in every key moment in the Civil Rights movement. And their younger son (Kelley) is sent to Vietnam. So it's like a condensed version of late 20th century American history, made notable by the lively cast of cameo players including Marsden (as JFK), Schreiber (LBJ), Ellis (MLK) and Cusack (Nixon), plus Fonda as a lively Nancy Reagan.

Harry Connick Jr. Picked As Third 'American Idol' Judge

Harry Connick Jr. Keith Urban Jennifer Lopez Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj

Harry Connick Jr. will be pitching up next to Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming season of the ever-popular American Idol, as the singer has been confirmed as the third and final artist to sit in the judge's seat next season. Having served as a mentor on the show on multiple occasions, the singer will finally ascend to the judge's table for the show's 13th season, The Hollywood Reporter first revealed.

Harry Connick Jr
Harry Connick Jr. may possibly last more than one season as a judge

On Friday (30 August) it was confirmed that the crooner had signed a deal to become the latest judge on the show as producers apparently wanted a lack of female presence on the show following the friction and drama that followed last season's bickering judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. The friction between the two reflected particularly badly in the show's key demographic; older women, something that the addition of Connick will hopefully strengthen this time around.

The Butler - Clips

Cecil Gaines is a modest and dedicated butler at the White House who manages to make for himself a respectable career despite his underprivileged upbringing and cotton farm roots. Starting out as a regular kitchen worker, Cecil soon proves himself to be extremely proficient and works his way up to be the head butler for eight different US presidents. Some of them prove to be discriminatory, treating Cecil with little respect and holding massively differing views to him, but he always remains polite and does everything within his power to care for his employers while keeping any top secret information that he might hear firmly to himself. Meanwhile, he struggles at home with his son; a Black Panther with aggressive views on racial equality who is less than grateful to have a father working for the people that he believes are causing racial oppression.

This story of loyalty and unconditional dedication is based on the true story of Eugene Allen; a butler who similarly lived through years of racial inequality before finally seeing, in his retirement, the election of the first black President, Barack Obama. His story was documented in the article 'A Butler Well Served by This Election' written by Wil Haygood. 'The Butler' has been directed by Lee Daniels ('The Paperboy', 'Precious', 'Shadowboxer') and co-written by Danny Strong ('Game Change', 'Recount') and will be released in the US on August 16th 2013.

Everyone Saw It Coming - Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey Leave American Idol

Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj Randy Jackson Keith Urban

The Great American Idol eviction continues at full speed with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey being the latest two to get the boot. Nobody is entirely shocked by the news though, as this seemed to be looming over the judges’ heads. With the last season, which ended with Candice Glover being crowned as the winner pulled in the lowest viewing figures of any American Idol year – with just 14.2 million people tuning in to watch the finale – it was clear something was amiss. Apparently the (truly impressive) level of conflict and drama that Minaj and Carey brought to the format, wasn’t enough to get the audience to pay attention. Rumors of firings and a complete restructuring of the judging panel have also been rampant ever since the show’s disappointing finale. It was only a matter of time.

Both Nicki and Mariah announced the news if their respective departures over Twitter and Fox released statements regarding both decisions, which, considering the circumstances, was the very least they could do.

"Mariah Carey is a true global icon - one of the most accomplished artists on the planet - and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the 'American Idol' contestants this season," Fox said, via Reuters.

Jennifer Lopez gave UK viewers of Simon Cowell's Britains Got Talent a real eyeful on Tuesday night, performing her new single 'Live It Up' while wearing a skimpy black leotard that barely covered her famous behind. Twitter immediately sprang into action, with some parents concerned about the "inappropriate" nature of her performance on what is considered a family show, with some young children actually performing.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for TV regualtor Ofcom said, "Ofcom can confirm that it has received complaints about the Britain's Got Talent broadcast last night, which we are assessing but not currently investigating." One viewer on Twitter said, "BGT does #jenniferlopez realise it's a family show - only thing missing was the pole - cover up your cheeks please!" though judge Simon Cowell was pretty happy with how things went, telling Lopez, "Seriously, J-Lo. If anyone wants to know how you do it. That's how you do it,' he said. "Seriously world class."

For what it's worth, Lopez herself seemed pretty oblivious to any concerns and happily posted an Instagram of the R&B star being held up by various dancers. "Thanks @GotTalent for a great night #liveitup," she added.

American Idol Hasn't Called Keith Urban Yet, (Do You Want To Tell Him, Or Should We?)

Keith Urban American Idol Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj Randy Jackson Jennifer Lopez

Keith Urban says he is still awaiting his fate on American Idol and remains in the dark of producer's plans for the new season. Urban has been a popular and inoffensive judge on the show for season twelve, though industry sources suggest Fox are planning a complete overhaul of the show for season thirteen.

"I have no official information of anything. I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around," Urban told the Associated Press, "I don't know anything more about what's happening next season. It was like this before I signed on . . . so it's not unusual for the Idol folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together." Last week, E! News reported that Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Urban would be replaced by Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert and possibly Aiken. American Idol producers were left red-faced midway through season twelve after it emerged they had tried to replace Mariah with previous judge Jennifer Lopez following dwindling viewer ratings. Carey's legal team blocked any such thing from happening.

We assume Urban wouldn't be too fussed should Idol bosses want to take the show in a different direction. His new album Fuse will hit shelves on September 10, 2013 and he'll head out on a huge tour in mid-July. Oh, and he's married to Nicole Kidman. So...

Mariah Carey Nearly Gives Crowd An Eyeful During Good Morning America Live Show

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey had a, shall we say eventful, turn on Good Morning America this week. The '#beautiful' singer was set to perform live in Ramsey Playfield for the crowd and the GMA cameras, but the perils of live performance caught up with her. Mariah was decked out in an admittedly gorgeous pink Versace gown, perhaps a bit out of place early in the morning in Rumsey Playfield and maybe that’s why the fashion Gods punished her with a wardrobe malfunction.

As Mariah was chatting to Lara Spencer, she admitted to the back of her dress being unattached. But even the “moment” Carey had to fix the situation, after coming back from the break she announced that her dress had “popped.” Props to Mariah for taking care of the situation though. She did so after a couple of bleeped out comments, but the whole scene finished with her jokingly saying: “Hey, I’ll just hold them up the whole time, what are you gonna do.”

Jennifer Hudson To Judge On The Show That Launched Her Career?

Jennifer Hudson Randy Jackson Keith Urban Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj

Jennifer Hudson is reportedly in talks about becoming a judge on the 13th season of 'American Idol'; the same show on which she became a finalist in season 3.

The 'Dreamgirls' star and Grammy winning pop star has had previous experience in talent show judging, having become Kelly Rowland's guest mentor during the Judges Houses stage of the UK show 'The X Factor'. Now she could be set to revisit the beginnings of her own career though, this time, on the other side of the table according to a source in TheWrap. She made an appearance on the show recently for the finale and is allegedly now in talks with the producers. 'She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [production company] Fremantle', said the source, adding, 'The show's producers feel they've lost their core audience. And they want to bring back former contestants in order to tell their core audience, 'We love you.' They know they've made some major mistakes over the past few seasons and they want to make it right with their fans.'

One of the judges, Randy Jackson, has handed in his resignation from the show already, though it is unknown whether or not Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj will stay on for another series.

The Butler Trailer

Cecil Gains is a devoted White House butler who grew up on a simple cotton farm where he and other black workers were not treated with any respect by their white counterparts. From a simple kitchen worker, he rises to be top butler to eight different presidents over the course of more than 30 years. Sworn to secrecy over the goings on at the White House, he serves the likes of Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Lyndon B. Johnson with all the care that he has in spite of their differing policies and the suppression of his race across the country. He rejects his freedom fighter son's distaste at Cecil's job and never once wavers in his respect for his government. He merely stands back, silver platter in hand and watches the progression of racial equality until the day the country's first black president is finally inaugurated.

This is a story about loyalty and commitment based on the article by Wil Haygood, 'A Butler Well Served by This Election', about Eugene Allen; a real butler who showed his devotion to his job over the course of three decades while he and his fellow black civilians went from being the underdogs to top dog as he lives to see the election of President Barack Obama. It has been directed by Lee Daniels ('The Paperboy', 'Precious', 'Shadowboxer') and co-written by Danny Strong ('Game Change', 'Recount'), and has an incredible all-star ensemble cast. 'The Butler' is set to his theatres in the US on August 16th 2013.

FOX Plans Complete Overhaul Of American Idol Judging Panel

American Idol Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj Keith Urban Simon Cowell

Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson are all set to be thrown off the American Idol judging panel in a complete remodelling of the singing competition by FOX. The network has seen viewer ratings over the current season drop to 25% lower than last years overall figures.

This years stats are even further from the wonder years of the Simon Cowell-era, but rather than concede that they are flogging a dead horse FOX are steadfast in their loyalty to the show as they look to compete with NBC's The Voice as well as The X Factor, which is also shown on FOX. The Warp broke the news of the plans to ship out this seasons newly installed panel and although the show is struggling, admitted it is still popular and the network's drastic plan could work in their favour.

How On Earth Did Angie Miller Get Eliminated From American Idol?

American Idol Randy Jackson Mariah Carey Keith Urban Nicki Minaj

Angie Miller - the favorite to win American Idol since the Hollywood rounds - was sensationally booted out of the competition on Thursday (May 9, 2013). Miller stunned the judges earlier in the competition with a performance of her original song 'You Set Me Free' and even changed her name from 'Angela' to 'Angie' as audiences warmed to her.

However, Miller's run on Idol ended at the top three after her elimination last night. It followed Wednesday night performances  of Elton John's 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word,' Pink's 'Try' and Emile Sande's 'Maybe' after which she was deemed to be the round one winner. Following her shocking elimination, she was often unable to sing the lyrics to her exit song after being overcome with emotion.

Miller's exit paves the way for a final including Candice Glover and Kree Harrison, slightly underwhelming for Idol audiences. Once this year's victor is crowned, the show looks set to undergo a major overhaul with veteran judge Randy Jackson already announcing his exit. According to industry website The Wrap, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban are also set to get their marching orders are a season of poor reviews and worse ratings.

Randy Jackson has confirmed that he is leaving American Idol, adding credence to reports that he and the three judges, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban have been axed from the show in a dramatic shakeup. In a devastating cull, Idol bosses have decided to start over and reportedly told all four judges they would not be returning next season.

"Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season," Jackson said in a statement, "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry," he said. "It's been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."

An insider told The Wrap on Thursday (May 9, 2013) that Fox plans to start the show from scratch after the current season came in for the worst reviews and ratings of the series so far. The website also reported how executive producer Nigel Lythgoe may not be returning, though Ryan Seacrest will probably stick around.

Angie Miller Wins Over American Idol Audience With Sentimental Performance

Mariah Carey

Angie Miller seems to be a favorite to win American Idol at this point and her performances of renditions of Elton John’s Sorry, Pink’s Try and Maybe by Emeli Sande seems to have solidified her position but besides performing the three hits – one of which was chosen by critic Jimmy Iovine, the judges and the show’s producers – Angie also showcased her hometown of Beverly.

In a special segment, the singer was shown arriving in Boston and then going back to her small town, where she visited her parents at home, made a stop at the Beverly High School and met up with friends at a coffee shop. Angie also performed for the crowd at her home town. More than 15 000 people had gathered to see the Idol contestant perform at her old school. Miller expressed her amazement at the amount of people who had shown up to support her.

“This is incredible,” she said. “I mean, it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Angie Miller On The Brink Of Winning American Idol

American Idol Mariah Carey

Boston native Angie Miller is the favorite to win this year's American Idol competition heading into tonight's top three challenge. She faces off against South Carolina's Candice Glover, 23, and Texan Kree Harrison, 22, though it appears to be Miller's time to shine.

On Wednesday (May 8, 2013), each woman will perform three songs - a judge's choice, Jimmy Iovine's pick and their own selection. According to the Boston Herald, judge Mariah Carey has been begging Angie to treat the judges to one of her original hits for weeks, given she lit up the auditions round with her pop ballad 'You Set Me Free.' The song has been viewed nearly 4 million times in YouTube and there is speculation that Miller could release the track should she win the title.

Miller's songwriting ability appears to have given the edge over both Glover and Harrison and she's also a skilled pianist, which would help as an Idol winner. Tonight's episode will also highlight the hometown visits of each contestant, with Miller delighting the crowds in her hometown of Beverly on Saturday (May 4, 2014).

Mariah Carey Closes Disneyland For Private Wedding Vows Renewal

Mariah Carey Nick Cannon

The Disneyland Resort was closed to the public for a short time on Tuesday, to allow Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon to renew their wedding vows and enable their guests to take advantage of the rides and attractions. Around 250 guests mingled on a chilly night at the family resort for the reception, which Cannon deejayed at, reports the Los Angeles Times.

"On our way to renew our vows," Carey tweeted beforehand. "I love you @Nick Cannon." The couple married in the Bahamas on April 30, 2008 and welcomed their kids Monroe and Moroccan three years later. For whatever reason, the pair feel the need to renew their vows every year - last year came an overblown ceremony at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This time, the 43-year-old singer, who's having a few problems on American Idol, wore a white-princess style wedding gown with sparkly headpiece. Later, they took a ride in a horse-drawn crytal carriage from the Dream Suite near the Pirates of the Caribbean rides to Main Street, where they met with up their kids. They had renewed their vows after walking down the aisle towards Sleep Beauty's Castle, complete with a fireworks show. Sounds, err, interesting.

According to the Times, Fantasyland was decorated with 10,000 crystals for the occasion, along with about 15,000 flowers imported from South Africa, Holland and France.

Mariah Carey Refuses Backstage 'Idol' Interviews After Replacement Reports

Mariah Carey American Idol Jennifer Lopez

Mariah Carey nor Nicki Minaj stopped for post-show backstage interviews following reports that producers had attempted to reshuffle the judging line-up midway through the current season. According to the Hollywood Reporter, bosses had attempted to force Carey out of the show and replace her with Jennifer Lopez, though the diva caught wind of the plan and got her legal team involved. Meanwhile, producers are apparently also on the hunt for a replacement for Nicki Minaj after she failed to connect with audiences.

Sources have since confirmed the replacement reports to E! online, with it now known that producers attempted to have Lopez return to the judging desk to save ratings. After Wednesday's show, contestant Kree Harrison voiced her support for Mariah though didn't exactly dismiss the idea of Lopez returning. "I would love to meet J.Lo.but I don't wanna see [Mariah] go nowhere because I love her, you know." According to E! online, Harrison was "rushed off to another interview by a publicist" after the subject came up.

The other girls in the competition were also quick to stand by the current judging panel, with Angie Miller admitting that it was "so weird hearing [the reports]. I say forget it!" In response to Ryan Seacrest's announcement that a "big surprise" would take place this week, Amber Holcomb hinted at the possibility of Lopez returning, saying, ""I think somebody's coming back!" she said excitedly.

"American Idol" Might Bump Mariah Carey In Favor Of Jennifer Lopez Due To Poor Ratings

Mariah Carey Jennifer Lopez Nicki Minaj

It’s no secret that “American Idol” has been struggling in the ratings department for a few seasons now and that the latest overhaul of the judjing panel, including the addition of Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj was meant to remedy the situation. That hasn’t happened unfortunately, as viewer numbers continue to plummet. Currently, Idol is pulling in around 12-13 million viewers, about half of its viewership in the glory days. Adding Carey and Nicki Minaj to the mix was meant to stir up some drama, ignite a spark in the judging panel that would get the viewers interested again, but their half-hearted disagreements weren’t exactly what the viewers, and consequently Fox, were looking for.

This sparked rumours that Fox was gearing up to replace Carey mid-season, possibly with veteran panelist Jennifer Lopez. Lopez’s previous appointment as a judge did manage to boost ratings for her first season, before things returned to their disappointingly anemic average and Lopez was booted off. The rumour that Carey now faces the same fate – a termination of her $18 million contract, originated from a report by The Hollywood Reporter, which claimed that Fox execs were considering the switch back.

Fox Entertainment Chairman Keith Reily however, has denied that the network has any intention of firing Mariah and noted that even though Idol’s ratings are slipping, they are still higher than any other reality format. With that and with Mariah’s killer legal team, reportedly threatening legal action, according to New York Daily News, Carey’s judging gig is still looking pretty secure.

Is Jennifer Lopez Replacing Mariah Carey On American Idol?

Jennifer Lopez Mariah Carey

Things aren’t going well for American Idol this season, and if rumors are to believe there’s been some serious panic behind the scenes, with producers reportedly mulling over the option of bringing Jennifer Lopez back in to replace Mariah Carey.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Fox show bosses were looking into the switch, with the big move of bringing Carey in to judge having little effect on revitalizing the tired format, with ratings sliding ever further. Apparently though Carey got wind that they were thinking of bringing back Lopez, who was a critical and ratings smash when she was on the show between 2010 and 2012, and threatened litigation.

So are these reports true? A Fox spokeswoman says no: "This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale” they said. Producer Fremantle NorthAmerica declined to comment, meanwhile. A rep for Carey denied the allegations, and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe said: "I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season.” So maybe not. But something’s definitely rotten with American Idol, which has seen rival, NBC’s The Voice rise to ratings of 5.2 at the same time its own have dropped to as low as 2.8. Maybe the fact of the matter is that it’s impossible to keep a show format that’s been largely the same for 11 years fresh? Everything has to come to an end sometime.

American Idol Recap: Candice Glover And Kree Harrison Deliver Despite Injury

American Idol Mariah Carey

In an injury-plagued American Idol, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison impressed the judges despite being injured. Harrison belted out Janis Joplin's Piece of My Heart while remaining static due to a pinched nerve.

“I feel like the show finally started tonight,” Randy Jackson said, not really noticing the contestant’s affliction. “That's how you come out and rock the stage. I love seeing this bluesy side of you. This girl can sing. She's in it to win it!” Keith Urban, though, noticed something was up, and forced Harrison into an explanation. “This is me giving you my all with my pinched nerve. I was hoping you wouldn't be able to tell,” she explained. “I knew something was going on,” said Keith. “10 out of 10 for your professionalism, Kree.” Nicki Minaj was equally impressed: “Girl, you could have had a pinched nerve, got on my nerve, got on several nerves. That was magnificent Miss Lady,” she beamed. “You're stunning. It's so natural. I think your voice was unmatched, I'm just obsessed with you.”

Another Motown Special? Predictable Week For American Idol, Janelle Arthur Saves The Day

American Idol Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey

Really, American Idol? Another Motown special? You’d think that with so much experience under their belts, and with world-class talent like Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey on board, the folks behind American Idol would be able to think of something a little more… how you say… challenging? or interesting, even, than yet another Motown-themed evening on American Idol. That’s what viewers were faced with last night though and once again, it is via the medium of Motown that the weekly winners and losers shall be decided.

So who were those winners and losers? Well, Nicki Minaj has already stated, unequivocally, that whoever wins this year’s American Idol, it will not be a male contestant. Hanging on by a thread, then, is Lazaro Arbos. Even the presence of a gaggle of backing singers and brass players couldn’t lift Lazaro’s performance above being mediocre. And as for his joint performance with Burnell Taylor and Davin Velez? Well, that was a disaster and he even admitted that he didn’t know the words to the song. It’s not looking good for Lazaro right now.

Mariah Carey Wardrobe Malfunction Blown Out Of Proportion - What Nipple-Slip?

Mariah Carey Jermaine Dupri

Why is everyone talking about a Mariah Carey wardrobe malfunction? What does 'wardrobe malfunction' even mean? The imagery that springs to mind is of a robotic wardrobe which has had water poured into it with sparks flying, gears grinding, eventually to a halt. That would be a 'wardrobe malfunction'. A very, very slight nip-slip is neither a malfunction nor something to be talked about. Half the world's adult population has breasts, or has no one noticed that yet?

Sometimes a lot of extra flesh is accidentally flashed. More often than not it's a woman and more often than not that woman is criticised for having a body that doesn't play by the rules. Carey's breasts' slight misdemeanour is hardly worth a mention. In fact, it shouldn't be mentioned. For women's bodies to come under such scrutiny is a scandal. Nevertheless, the faint whisp of a left areola was visible and that, apparently, is worth a conversation.

Carey appeared at the So So Def 20th Anniversary Concert in Atlanta last week. It was a celebration of her pals including Jermaine Dupri and it's a real shame that focus hasn't been kept on that far more important aspect of the event. US Weekly said that Carey gave the audience "quite a show" when  a 'breast popped out' as she raised her hands to wave to the audience. Photos from the 'malfunction' show almost nothing, the audience, not all of whom had the zoom-lens power of the photographers will definitely not have been able to see anything. Yes, Carey probably helped give them quite a show, but not for the reasons US Weekly claim, rather, simply because she's an enormous star and great friend to Jermaine Dupri etal

Mariah Carey Wardrobe Malfunction At Party - Strapless Dress 1, Mariah 0

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey’s wardrobe malfunction at the So So Def 20th anniversary concert has caused the American Idol judge a spot of embarrassment last Saturday (February 23, 2013). You’d think that an entertainer with as many years in the industry under her belt as Mariah has would be far too savvy to fall foul of the ‘nip-slip’ but it would appear that that is not the case at all.

The unfortunate incident took place at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, when Mariah was onstage wearing a strapless, curvy cream dress with metallic embellishments. As she wheeled out a cake to celebrate the anniversary of of her long-term collaborator Jermaine Dupri’s record label, the singer’s breast made a brief attempt at freedom and unbeknownst to Carey, her nipple popped out to say hello as she waved to fans, according to Us magazine. It wasn’t exactly the worst wardrobe malfunction in the world but these pop stars must rue the day the strapless dress was ever invented, when these things happen.

Mariah Carey And Nick Cannon's Valentine's Day Bath Interrupted By Surprise Visitor!

Mariah Carey Nick Cannon

Forget husband Nick Canon, there was someone else that Mariah Carey was sharing a romantic bubble bath with on Valentine’s day – her pup Jill E Beans! (See what she’s done there with her name?)

In fairness to Carey, the bath was actually meant for Nick, but whilst she was waiting for him to arrive (and tweeting pictures of herself doing so) she was interrupted by the surprise visitor. “Aaaah! Jill E Beans leaps to the tub In hopes of a splash champagne - whhhhhy?!” Carey wrote on Twitter, although to be honest on the accompanying picture she looked a lot happier than her pet, who looked like it was severely regretting its decision to dive on in.

Anyway, after all of that Mariah did eventually get out of the tub – and we presume Nick was there for a bit of it – because she then posted a pic of the pair of them ready to go out in New York. Mariah has the uncanniest knack of being able to look like she’s in the 1990’s no matter what year it is, and so it proved again as she wore her hair back in a ponytail, looking adoringly at her husband of a year. After that they went out for a ride in a horse drawn carriage through Central Park, before arriving back home where, Carey showed us, her bed had been covered in petals. Awww. We wonder if the dog interrupted that scene too.

"It Is What It Is" Says Mariah Carey Of Her Squabbles With Nicki Minaj

Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj

Mariah Carey is a diva. Nicki Minaj is a diva. Is it any wonder then that when you put the two together on a panel and add (oh dear) opinions to the mix, things are going to get heated?

Doubtless, this is exactly what the producers of American Idol had in mind when they came up with the combination. But lately, Mariah has been reluctant to add fuel to the fire. She made a very pacifistic comment in an interview with dnaindia.com, saying, “This is a very passionate panel. There are a lot of strong personalities. The fighting is what it is. This is American Idol. It is bigger than some stupid trumped-up thing. It is about the next superstar. The whole thing is convoluted. It is a distraction from the show and the contestants.”

Whilst this sounds very mature of her, is Mariah really fooling anybody? Let’s face it, the Kelly Clarksons and Adam Lamberts of American Idol come once in a blue moon and whilst a winner or finalist might rise up to some prominence if they play their cards right, talent is certainly not the only reason people watch the show for. It’s the drama, pure and simple. And whether it is a contestant openly lying on the show like Matthew Farmer did earlier this week, or two bickering pop stars (aka Mariah and Nicki), the turmoil is the main source of entertainment on Idol. So, when a combination like this happens, it’s not unfortunate, but rather a reason for the producers to pat themselves on the back. It’s probably an opportunity for the stars themselves to cash in, one way or another.

The Idol Judging Panel: Minaj Shines And Harmony Rules

Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey Keith Urban Randy Jackson

With a new panel and a whole new dynamic, this season of American Idol is going strong so far.

It looks like the driving force behind the revival are mostly the ladies – after the obligatory fight/feud/general beef (what’s the trendy term these days?) Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj seem to have reconciled in their mission to let as many hot guys as possible through the qualifying round. Nicki is her usual larger-than-life self, complete with eye-popping colour palette, (mostly) witty banter, and a ready comment for every contestant. Maybe her energy is exactly what the talent competition needed to get back on its feet. But the reason that Miss Minaj’s whole persona works on the show, is that it works with the other judges.

Mariah balances out Nicki’s zany personality with her calm, serene appearance (seriously, does anyone know what they have in those cups?), while Keith Urban is the nice guy every judging panel needs, in order for the viewer not to hate them. Meanwhile, Randy Jackson is just there to stir up the occasional spat, by egging on contestants and judges alike. It’s always clear, however, that any drama is mainly for the cameras and in overall, they all just get along. Just like one big, mismatched, reality TV family.

Mariah Carey Increased Security After Gun Threat From Nicki Minaj

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey increased her security when she was threatened by Nicki Minaj on American Idol, Reuters reports. Keen to distance herself from Nicki’s uncivilised behaviour, Mariah has painted herself as the concerned and distinguished party in the whole affair, telling Barbara Waters in an interview “it felt like an unsafe work environment… Anytime anybody's reeling threats at somebody, you know, it's not appropriate… I'm a professional. I'm not used to that type of environment.”

Carey added that she hired extra security when 30 year old Minaj was heard to say “if I had a gun I would shoot that bitch,” referring to 42 year old Carey. Mariah told Waters that increasing her security “was the appropriate thing to do,” after her co-star threatened her, adding that she had her 20 month old twins with her on the road, as well as her husband Nick Cannon. Aware that the whole furore – whilst it may have been scary – could easily be written off as a publicity stunt aimed to increase American Idol’s ratings, Carey added “for all the drama, I hope it helps the show.”

When asked about how much money she was getting paid to be a judge on the TV singing talent contest, the figure of $18 million for the season was bandied about. “I think we’re in the ballpark, I can’t even talk about those things.”

Video: Mariah Carey Performs Neo-Soul Rendition Of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'

Mariah Carey The Roots Questlove

Ok, so it wasn't quite neo-soul, but it did feature Questlove and The Roots as the backing band. Mariah Carey stopped by the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week and was roped into performing her classic Christmas hit, still considered by many to be the finest of all the famous festive song.

The Roots took to their kid-sized toy instruments, including xylophone, bongos, rattlers, wood blocks and drums, while a chorus of children chimed in on background vocals - of course, Mariah's powerful vocals give things a bit of authenticity. However, we reckon the highlight of the evening was Questlove's holiday sweater - a disastrously cream Christmas zip-down creation. Fallon started things off, singing the ditty's opening lines, "I don't want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need," before taking to the drums, tambourine and kazoo and letting Mariah take over. Writing on her Twitter page later, the 42-year-old singer wrote: "Join the fun + sing along to my festive 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' collabo with @jimmyfallon & @theroots!!!" Fallon tweeted, "@mariahcarey + theroots + Classroom Instruments. So fun."

As is becoming tradition, Mariah has been doing the Christmassy promotional rounds this year, last week performing her famous track at the annual tree-lighting ceremony at New York's Rockefeller Center.

Nicki Minaj Accuses Steven Tyler Of Racist Remark On Twitter

Nicki Minaj Steven Tyler Mariah Carey

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey is over, now the school kids are surrounding Minaj and Steven Tyler, chanting "Fight, fight!" over and over again, hoping to see some bloodshed before the teacher comes to break it all up.

Tyler gave an interview to MTV, which didn't sit well with Minaj, you see. "You just have to give your opinion. It wasn't hard for me, but I would imagine it's hard for some people, and they need a manager to say 'Shut the f--- up, and just give them your opinion,'" Tyler said. "These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they're in New York City, they're scared to death; you're not going to get the best [out of them]. ... If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying." Minaj is not happy, not at all, and she took to Twitter to air her grievances at what she believes to be a racist comment. "Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven't seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet," she wrote. "I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven't done anything to you. That's a racist comment. You assume that I wouldn't have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f--k yourself and worry about yourself babe."

She didn't stop there, and, clearly incensed, wrote, "LOL lets make him a shirt that says "No Coloreds Allowed" then escort him down 2 Barbara Walters so he can tell how he was threatened w/guns. When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge." Neither Tyler or Fox have responded to the tweets or claims made, E! reports.

BAD25: Spike Lee's Michael Jackson Documentary Hits All The Right Notes

Spike Lee Michael Jackson Kanye West Justin Bieber Mariah Carey Stevie Wonder Martin Scorsese Wesley Snipes

Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson documentary BAD25 has been hailed as a success. Spike Lee, of course, has personal knowledge of working with Jackson – he directed his 1996 video ‘The Don’t Care About Us,’ so the documentary is lent an intimate air, as he conducts the interviews himself. Featured in the interviewee’s chair are a host of stars, all influenced, or touched by Jackson and the music of his hit album Bad (released 25 years ago this year).

Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder are amongst those discussing Jackson’s creative vision, on the album that sold over 30 million copies and spawned five consecutive number ones. According to Boston.com, the film plays out with a series of oral accounts of the recording period. Lee speaks to all of the major players in the recording studio as ell as those involved in his videos and the accompanying tour (surprisingly, including the only solo North American tour that Jackson would ever headline).

Some of the cinematographic vignettes include footage of Martin Scorsese directing Michael Jackson (and Wesley Snipes, before he was famous) in the video for ‘Bad’ and Sheryl Crow, talking of the time that she worked as a back-up singer for Jackson. “The molecules changed in the room,” she said. Although Spike Lee is a vivacious character in his own right, he steps back and lets the interviewees do the talking here. The documentary will be aired this evening (November 21, 2012) at 9:30pm EST, on ABC.

Nicki Minaj Open To A Duet With Mariah Carey On American Idol

Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey may be TV's favourite warring couple at the moment, but that doesn't mean that the two may put their personal differences behind themselves in the name of music, with Minaj admitting that an on-air collab between her and her American Idol co-judge could be on the cards.

With the ongoing spat between them seemingly being cleared up (somewhat) by Nicki on her reality show, Nicki Minaj: My Truth, (and by that I mean that she has given her side of the story) the 'Starships' singer has also admitted that she would be more than willing to perform with Carey on the show. She told E!, who air her new three-part show, that she would be down with sharing a mic as long as Carey was too, saying: "I think people would be interested in seeing that."

The feud between the two started when it was announced that Minaj would be joining Carey as the new panelist for the ongoing season of American Idol, although some reports have stated that the feud goes back further than that. The altercation really reached boiling point during an audition early on in the series when the two came to blows over a contestant, with the Roman Reloaded hitmaker attacking Carey with a tirade not meant for sensitive ears, with footage of the rant making its way online. Minaj has since said that Carey had been winding her up throughout filming, and at the point of the argument she had reached boiling point.

Can Barack Obama Fix Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey’s Busted Relationship?

Barack Obama Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey

Can Barack Obama mend Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey’s relationship on American Idol?

OK, we’re going to be honest; we hadn’t really considered this question until we heard Michael Yo of the Yo Show actually asking the US president if he was capable of such a thing, but now that the question’s out there, it’s surely worth thinking about!

Barack Obama appeared as a guest on The Yo Show and within seconds of having him on air, Michael had already posed the question that he thought the American voting public really wanted the answer to this: “Can you repair the relationship between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey on American Idol? That’s what the people wanna know.” Obviously used to having tricky questions thrown his way, Obama took it all in his stride and simply said that he had faith in the pair of divas to sort their own troubles out. “"I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident… I'm all about bringing people together, working for the same cause, I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they're moving forward and not going backwards.”
