It seems as though Mariah Carey may be following in Beyonce’s footsteps when it comes to the release of her new album. Billboard revealed that Mariah will reveal full album details, including the title, track listing, music and artwork, simultaneously via digital partners, who have yet to be announced.

Mariah Carey Beyonce albumMariah Carey is expected to follow in Beyonce's footsteps, with a surprise album release

The move echoes Beyonce’s most recent album release for her 2013 self-titled album. The "Drunk In Love" singer's 2011 album “4” had not reaped the expected results, similarly Carey’s 2009 album “Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel” had seriously underperformed, resulting in the cancellation of a planned remix album. When Beyonce released “Beyonce”, her fifth studio album, in December 2013 there had been no prior announcements or forewarning.  The move was hugely beneficial, Mariah may be hoping for a similar outcome.

Carey’s upcoming album, which the singer has been working on since 2010, will be her 14th. “I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Carey told Billboard, adding that the album itself is named after a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”

It’s expected that the week following the surprise release Carey’s new album will have a physical release and will be available to buy in stores.
