The 44-year-old singer was performing Billie Holiday's classic song 'Don't Explain' and appears to have ad-libbed a line which may well refer to her personal circumstances, particularly the reported breakdown of her marriage to Nick Cannon.

During the song, as TMZ reports, Carey is heard singing "I know you cheated motherf***er". The original lyrics are "And I know you cheat/Right or wrong, don't matter". But is her choice in song a reflection of her personal life or is the change in lyrics simply artistic license?

Carey and 33-year-old Cannon's relationship is certainly on the rocks at the moment. The couple have been married since 2008, after meeting on the set of one of Carey's music videos. The couple have a set of twins together, a daughter named Marilyn and a son named Moroccan Scott.

Sadly, in August of this year Cannon confirmed he and Carey had been living apart for a number of months. "There is trouble in paradise. We have been living in separate houses for a few months," Cannon admitted at the time. Carey's rep has refused to discuss the nature of her relationship but simply stated "Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."

Although their relationship may have fallen apart, the reason behind their split is unknown and a source, speaking to Us Weekly, is adamant Cannon is not the type to cheat. "He's always [been] faithful," the source stated.

The discussion of Carey's personal life appears to have caused a distraction from reports that Carey was struggling to reach the high notes whilst performing in Tokyo on Saturday (4th October). As the Mail reports, a number of audience members complained on social media that Carey "can't sing anymore."
