Mariah Carey poked fun at herself by vowing to ''be a diva'' during the opening night of her Las Vegas residency earlier this week.
Mariah Carey vowed to ''be a diva'' on the opening night of her Las Vegas residency.
The 45-year-old star took to the stage at The Colosseum at the Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on Wednesday (06.05.15) to kick off the first night of her string of concert dates in the city.
And according to People magazine she poked fun at her reputation by joking to the crowd that she was ''doing my best to be a diva this evening.''
The 'We Belong Together' hitmaker's show features all 18 of her Number 1 hit singles, which are performed in chronological order, and concludes with a rendition of her new song 'Infinity'.
Speaking before the curtain raised, show director Ken Ehrlich said: ''You're going to hear songs that are the soundtrack of your lives all night long.''
Mariah underwent six costume changes on the night and even swapped her hairstyle from afro-style curls to sleeker waves.
When the audience shouted about how much they love the star, she replied saying: ''I love you more, don't even try it.''
In addition to her own hits and ballads, the blonde beauty also performed her cover of The Jackson 5's 'I'll Be There' joined by a recording of Michael Jackson performing the original and in person Trey Lorenz - who first sang the duet with Carey on MTV's Unplugged.
Mariah's other renditions were also accompanied by clips from each song's respective music videos displayed on a large backdrop.
The 'Always Be My Baby' singer is scheduled to perform three nights a week at the venue during May and July for a total of 18 shows.
She is sharing The Colosseum's stage with rotating headliners Celine Dion, Elton John and Rod Stewart.
