Mariah Carey described her time on American Idol as "like going to work every day with Satan." Carey appeared on Hot 97, a US radio station, and discussed her feud with Nikki Minaj and how she "hated" working on American Idol.

Carey featured on American Idol as a judge for one season, which was broadcast earlier this year. Season 15 of the show is set to air in January 2014, but owing to her hatred of working on the show, Carey will not be returning to the judging panel.

Carey discussed her fellow judges and explained her reaction to hearing about - what she assumed to be- the three person panel. She discussed her decision to join the show, saying They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment, and I was just like, 'Okay. Randy Jackson will be there; I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn't a big deal. This will be nothing.' But it wasn't that. It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

Presumably Carey's "Satan" is Nicki Minaj with whom she had an ongoing feud. The pair had a number of arguments which developed on social media. Minaj tweeted earlier this year calling Carey "bitter" and "insecure."

Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey had a number of run ins on the show.

She attempted to downplay her comments and lighten the mood of the interview by brushing off her past remarks. She claimed she didn't hate working on the show but was "disappointed," further stating "It didn't affect me that much." The 43-year-old singer also said the one aspect of the job she enjoyed was working with the contestants. On this matter she said "I loved the contestants, and some of them that were so good-and also really good people, you could tell-it was disappointing when [the judges] would, for political reasons, not put people through."

It seems the experience has left Carey with no plans to appear on American Idol or any other talent show again. She said "I like being in the studio better and going on my own tours." As such, Carey will not be returning to American Idol in January.

The judging panel for the upcoming season has been announced. Country singer Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez will return to the judge. They are joined by Harry Connick. Jr, whilst Jackson has a mentoring role.
