Mark Hamill Star Wars

The 65-year-old actor couldn't have had more respect for the way George Lucas, creator of 'Star Wars' and director of the original movie and the second trilogy, developed the scenes in the movie and described his storytelling as being almost primitive.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer

After the release of The Force Awakens at the end of 2015, Disney and Lucas films didn't mess around delivering the general public its first announcement/teaser for The Last Jedi back at the start of 2016. Now, well over a year later, we finally get to see some proper footage from the upcoming movie.

Many of the key cast from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature in The Last Jedi including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren who famously slaughtered his much-loved father in a face to face battle that made for one of the most pivotal scenes in the history of Star Wars.

As ever with new Star Wars releases, the scrip and the story outline is one of Hollywood's most closely guarded secrets and few official details have been released to the public. We do know that the story will pick up where The Force Awakens ended with Rey going off into a mountainous setting to hunt down Luke Skywalker in a bid to train with him and learn his knowledge.

JJ Abrams Touts Mark Hamill For An Oscar Next Year

Mark Hamill Jj Abrams Star Wars

Former Star Wars director Jj Abrams has claimed that Mark Hamill’s role in the upcoming The Last Jedi later this year will be of such a standard that he’ll be in line for an Oscar this time next year, saying that he’d be “very upset” if Hamill was overlooked.

65 year old Hamill fleetingly reprised his career-defining role as Luke Skywalker in 2015’s The Force Awakens – quite literally, as he appeared for just a few seconds standing on a remote island in the film’s closing sequence - but it set to have a substantially bigger role in The Last Jedi, released in December 2017.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Review

Essential

Appealing both to a new generation of viewers and fans of the series since the beginning, this 30-years-later sequel to 1983's Return of the Jedi is a thrilling adventure. Filmmaker J.J. Abrams has managed to capture the tone of the original trilogy while telling a story about young, vibrant new characters whose connection to the overall saga deepens intriguingly as events unfurl.

Over the past three decades, the Empire has regrouped, forming the First Order to crush the Old Republic for good. And the plucky Rebellion hasn't offered much resistance since leader Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) disappeared. The Empire's top henchman Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is searching for him just as diligently as the rebel leader General Leia (Carrie Fisher). But the real action is happening out of their grasp, as disaffected storm trooper Finn (John Boyega) teams up with rebel pilot Poe (Oscar Isaac) and then feisty scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) and expressive droid BB-8. Along the way, Han Solo and Chewbacca (Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew) find themselves back in the fray. And everyone is startled when there's a strong stirring in the force.

Abrams beautifully recreates the scruffy, clanky mechanical atmosphere of the original trilogy, infusing scenes with witty banter and John William's soaring score to throw us right back into that familiar galaxy. This includes the saga's main themes: the temptation of power, how true heroism is often accidental, and the tension between parents and children. Combine this with a plot that propels itself with a series of unexpected adventures and battles, all centred on the characters, and the film taps strongly into the teen in all of us.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens TV Spot Trailer

After the victory of the Rebel Alliance over the Galactic Empire and subsequent demolition of The Death Star, you'd imaging life in a certain galaxy would be a little more subdued, but as we soon learn, life for Princess Leia, Luke and Hans wasn't exactly easy following their small yet essential victory.

30 years on and to most citizens - humanoid and alien - the stories of evil Lord Darth Vader and the Jedi Masters are just a legend, a story they tell their children that starts with the well-known overture: 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the Star Wars series and is an additional story to the original Star Wars outline.

The film follows a set of new characters as they join the battle and fight the evil forces once again threatening to destroy their galaxy. The Force Awakens was directed by Jj Abrams and sees a number of cast favourites return to the story including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

A New Age Dawns For Star Wars, With JJ Abrams At The Helm

Jj Abrams Mark Hamill Carrie Fisher Harrison Ford

You might think it isn’t fair for one man to get to direct both Star Trek and Star Wars in a single lifetime, but due to recent plot twists, Jj Abrams is getting to do just that – and he has some big plans. Or so everyone assumes, since both Abrams and Lucasfilm are keeping annoyingly quiet about the future of the franchise. "We are, most likely, if all goes as planned, going to be moving to London at the end of the year for the 'Star Wars' movie," Abrams said Saturday at the Producers Guild of America's Produced By conference in Los Angeles.

But we knew that already – well, at least that episode VII will be shot in England. Additionally, Abrams made some comments about his strategy for taking over the franchise, without alienating hardcore fans. In a remarkably uninformative statement, he said that "the key to moving forward on something like this is honoring but not revering what came before." If we’re reading this correctly, it would mean that this will definitely be Abrams’s and not Lucas’ Star Wars. Fans are yet undecided on whether this is a good thing.

Something that has been known for a while though, is the fact that alumni Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will reprise their original roles as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia, respectively, as well as the film’s release date – end of summer 2015. Probably. Until then, Star Wars fans are left to do what they do best – wait and dread the coming changes.

New Star Wars Film On Course To Begin Shooting By Early 2014

Star Wars Jj Abrams Mark Hamill

Great news Star Wars fans (or bad new depending on where you sit on the Star Wars re-boot fence), because we have a rough idea of how the next chapter of the Disney-owned franchise will unfold. It should be sticking to it's 2015 release date, with the finished project possibly happening relatively sooner than some had thought, producer Bryan Burk told Collider.

Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams is currently promoting his most recent film, Star Trek: Into Darkness, however it is also known that he is working equally as hard on his other sci-fi franchise reboot. He and writer Michael Arndt are said to be bringing the script to it's final form, with the studio still deciding locations for the shoot as Abrams and Arndt's work progresses. Burke described the current status mode of the movie as a 'free-flowing thing,' moving at it's own pace but moving promisingly nonetheless. We assume that's a good thing.

The Free Church of Scotland said the Marriage and Civil Partnership Bill will allow groups promoting a belief to marry couples. Various groups promote interest in the Jedi, including the Jedi Knight Society, which offers lessons from Master Yoda.

The Scottish government said the change was relevant to such bodies as humanists, who are classed as religious rather than non-religious. Church spokesman, the Reverend Iver Martin told BBC Alba, "The third category is quite astonishing because it is the so-called belief category without really defining what belief means. There are loads of people in a diverse society like this for whom belief can mean virtually anything - the Flat Earth Society and Jedi Knights Society - who knows?"

Jedi Knights are characters in the Star Wars franchise, which Disney recently purchased with the intention of releasing further movies. A Jedi school in California offers training in key skills, such as the use of light sabres. The Flat Earth Society - also mentioned by Rev Martin - promotes the theory that the Earth is flat, largely basing its ideas on literal interpretation of passages in the Bible.

Hot Tickets - US Movie Releases - Did We Need Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D? Opinion Divided By Matt Damon's Promised Land

Matt Damon Frances McDormand John Krasinski Gus Van Sant Andy Garcia Eva Longoria Forest Whitaker Mark Hamill Danny Trejo James Duval Sonny Chiba

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Django Unchained are riding high at the top of the US box office charts and as the movie industry lurches slowly into the new year, it’s likely that they’ll remain there. After all, an unsolicited addition to the Texas Chainsaw collection is hardly going to have the pulling power to shift some of the biggest movies of last year off the top of that chart.

That, however, is one of the biggest movies of the week: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. That’s right. An extra dimension has been added to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre story. No, we’re not sure why, either. The phrase “let’s leave well alone, shall we?” springs to mind. The horror genre was just fine and dandy with the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the other Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and... okay all you need to know is that there are already seven of these movies.. but hey, now we have one in 3D, so that, presumably, you can fear not only for the safety of the characters onscreen, but also for the integrity of your own eyeballs, as chainsaw after chainsaw comes flying out of the screen and straight towards your face.

In a classic game of paper, scissors, stone, it becomes quickly apparent that ‘chainsaw’ beats ‘wooden door’ as good old Leatherface wreaks havoc with his favourite power tool once more. Unsurprisingly, it has been met with a tired response, with one reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes describing the film as a “giant turd of a movie.” So, probably not bound for big bucks box office success, then. Bound to divide audiences this one. Divide them between ‘Don’t really like it’ and ‘Really don’t like it,’ that is.

Mark Hamill Knew About Episode 7 But Was Surprised With Disney's Buy Out

Mark Hamill George Lucas

Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, was well aware of the intention to extend the Star Wars film franchise to Episode 7 and beyond, but was surprised at the acquisition of Lucasfilms by Disney for a whopping $4.05b.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Hamill explained: "Oh my gosh, what a shock that was! I had no idea that George was going to sell to Disney until I read it online like everybody else," but offered the caveat: "He did tell us last summer about wanting to go on and do [Episodes] VII, VIII, and IX, and that [newly appointed Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy would be doing them." Speculation is still rife as to what the upcoming Star Wars films will cover. Will it be Hans Solo? Will Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader become best friends? We wouldn't put it past those Disney guys. "It's one of those things: people either just don't care for it or are passionate about it," Hamill explained." I guess that defines what cult movies are all about. We'll see. I'm anxious to know what's going on, but the main story [yesterday] was the sale to Disney. I have mixed feelings about that, but they haven't done badly by Marvel and the Muppets and Pixar. It's one of those big decisions that at first seems unusual but then the more you look at it, the more it makes sense."

We're waiting for more info to come out regarding where the series will go, and who will be involved in steering the ship. One thing's for sure, and it may be the saving grace: George Lucas remains as creative consultant.
