There's now just over a week to go until the latest instalment in the episodic 'Star Wars' series hits the big screen, coming to fans in the form of 'The Last Jedi' and set to provide some of the biggest shocks the narrative of the franchise has ever seen. In the movie, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) will be making his return after being unearthed by Rey (Daisy Ridley), despite the character placing himself in exile.

Whilst Luke played a huge part in defeating the Empire back in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy, it's something that has played heavy on his heart ever since. In fact, it would appear a number of unknown things have happened to the big screen hero, which we imagine will be explored in 'The Last Jedi'.

Speaking with EW, Hamill explained how he got into his character's frame of mind for 'The Last Jedi' and said: "I wrote lots and lots of scenarios. I made notes that he fell in love with a woman who was a widow and had this young child. He left the Jedi to raise this young child and marry this woman. And the child got hold of a lightsaber and accidentally killed himself."

Of course, these little stories weren't ever going to be a part of 'Star Wars' canon, and they hold absolutely no bearing on where the plot will actually be taken on the big screen, but it's certainly an interesting aspect of how Hamill and other actors like him will prepare for their most challenging and testing roles.

Despite that, Hamill did run his scenarios past 'The Last Jedi' director Rian Johnson: "I sort of tested out some of my ideas just to make sure I wasn’t in conflict with anything. [Rian Johnson] was really nurturing in that regard, encouraging me to find ways to justify the actions in this movie. But like I say, that little story I told about Luke leaving the Jedi and getting married, that’s not officially what happens."

It's going to be very interesting to delve into Luke's history this month, but we imagine some surprises will be left for 2019's release and the end to this trilogy, the currently untitled 'Episode IX'. We can't wait to get our bums in cinema seats!
