Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be returning to 221B Baker Street next year as Sherlock and Watson. The series' creators, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, have confirmed the series will return for a special in 2015 followed by three episodes. But we're in for a long wait...

The special and the three episode fourth series will begin filming in January 2015 and will air later that year. Freeman has let slip that he suspects the series will be aired at Christmas time, as the previous two series have been. Speaking to the Telegraph, Freeman said "I think that might be for next Christmas. A Christmas special. That's what I understand."

Fargo viewers are split on last night’s finale – for some it was a disappointing ending to an otherwise great show, for others it cemented the series' place as "one of the year's best dramas."

While opinions on the first season settle, the writers have time to congratulate themselves on a job well done. Head writer Noah Hawley talked to Forbes, recalling the process of bringing the Cohen Brothers’ vision to the small screen. The transition required a lot of remodeling and the end result is a dark, quirky, and very witty series that plays as its own story, rather than a cheap knockoff of the 1996 film. First of all, Hawley says, the series is very much its own entity, with a completely different tone to the movie – a much darker one.

We’ve got to admit The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies certainly sounds a lot more climactic than The Hobbit: There and Back Again. The producers seem to agree as well, considering they have officially changed the name of the movie. It’s even been changed on IMDb so you know that they mean business.  It's pretty apt to change the movie’s title to include a reference to the titular action of the final installment. There and Back Again just seemed like too safe a title to bring to an end Peter Jackson’s 13 year bid to recreate the world of J.R.R. Tolkein.

For those who haven’t read the books it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that there will be a battle. Between five armies. New television series Fargo premiered last night on FX, giving American audiences a first taste of the adaptation of the Coen Brothers famed 1996 dark comedy. Starring Martin Freeman ('The Hobbit') and Billy Bob Thornton ('Armageddon'), the new show has been developed by Noah Hawley ('Bones') but has received the blessing of Joel and Ethan Coen, who are acting as executive producers.

The TV series adaptation of the Coen brothers Oscar-winning movie Fargo has received strong reviews ahead of its premiere on FX tonight. The show stars Billy Bob Thornton as Lorne Larvo, who arrives in a Minnesota and immetely brings major changes to the lives of insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman), Officer Molly Solverson (Alison Tolman), the daughter of the former Chief (Keith Carradine) and singer father Gus Grimly (Colin Hanks).

The Lego Movie is sitting firmly atop the highest grossing movies of 2014 list, having raked in over $410 million. The animated film has been a huge hit with cinema goers and critics, although we’re not even half way through the year yet, there’s still time for it be knocked off the top spot.

It looks as though Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which has only been on the big screen for a couple of weeks, could easily come along and steal its crown. It’s already taken over $308 million at the box office, which sounds impressive but still leaves it at the number three spot, $16 million behind 300: Rise of an Empire. We’re two films, five hours and one cliffhanger into The Hobbit film series and final installment, There And Back Again, is due out in December. This means we’re in for about eight months of speculation. The trailer isn’t even out yet, but looking back on the source material, there are a few predictions to be made about the final film. We'd put a spoiler warning here, but you know...the book has been out for almost 90 years, just saying.

This one might be less about Bilbo and more about... well, everyone else.

3. The Battle of the Five Armies. At this point in the franchise, we are yet to see Thorin get consumed by greed, which is one of the main plot points in The Hobbit. At one point, the King Under the Mountain should hole up with his gold and refuse to pay any compensation to the people of Laketown (who at this point are about to have their town torched by Smaug) or to the Wood Elves. The two armies are on their way to lay siege to the mountain, when they discover that there is an orc and warg army on the way too. Basically the culmination of the entire series.

Channel 4 is the lucky winner of 'Fargo', the new TV series based on The Coen Brothers’ famous film. We say lucky because loads of people are going to watch it, but there’s also scant regard for the way airing rights are actually distributed mixed in there, too. The series premieres in the U.S. on FX in April, and will air shortly after on Channel 4 in the U.K.

Sherlock’s season three finale aired in the US last night, but it seems fans may not have too long to wait until season four. UK newspaper The Sun has reported that Sherlock could have its season 4 premiere this Christmas. A source told the newspaper, “the BBC is desperate for a Sherlock Christmas Day special this year. It wants its biggest guns ready.”

Sherlock has been a barnstorming success, and it’s not often you get to hand that phrase out. It might not seem like a surprise to us schmucks, but the show’s writer and producer, Steven Moffat, can’t believe the BBC drama is bringing in the kind of numbers it is.

Moffat says in a statement: "It isn't supposed to be like this. Sherlock began life as a surprise hit, and now in its third series, it's rating higher than ever." The third and final installment of the current series, His Last Vow, pulled in 8.8million viewers, which equated to 32.1% audience share.

Sherlock wrapped up in style as the final episode of the BBC detective drama aired last night and sent shockwaves of excitement throughout fans and critics. It's barely believable that after months of excruciating anticipation, the third and final episode of Steven Moffat's drama has come and gone.

Peter Jackson's sequel has fought of competition from Disney animation Frozen, comedy Anchorman: The Legend Continues and crime drama American Hustle to claim 2013's final weekend triumph.

So far The Hobbit has collected $190 million at the worldwide box office but the total is still behind the original instalment which had already picked up $230 million by the third weekend. In its sixth week of release, Disney's Frozen gave a still impressive performance, taking $28.8 million behind The Hobbit's $29.9 million weekend total.

Sunday rolled around, bringing with it the hotly anticipated third season premiere of BBC’s Sherlock. The lucky few fans who were treated to the early screening of the first episode were not disappointed, although the internet is and will remain blissfully spoiler-free. Apparently those present at the premiere are sworn to silence under threat of being scorned by Benedict Cumberbatch himself, or at least we assume so.

But even without any significant plot giveaways, it was an eventful evening none the less, not least because of the Q&A with the cast and writers, which followed the premiere. One thing that ruffled more than a few feathers online was the bit during the Q&A when head writer Cailtlin Moran introduced the show’s stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to the wonderful (if mildly intimidating) world of Sherlock fanfiction.

As predicted, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the clear winner of this past weekend’s box office. The second installment in Bilbo Baggins’ journey predictably came in first with $73,6 million, although it didn’t face much in the way of competition this weekend.

Even so, the second Hobbit film saw a noticeable drop from its predecessor, which opened last year to $83,6 million, making it a 13% drop. The company has previously estimated the price of Hogwarts, Wayne Manor and Barbie's dream house in Malibu.

Last night (December 3) saw the premiere for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug at Los Angeles’ Chinese Theater. While the final Hobbit film wrapped filming back in summer, the production team and cast, including Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Orlando Bloom, director Peter Jackson and many others, will still have plenty of chances to catch up at premieres and promotional events leading up to the film’s release. They clearly enjoyed doing so last night, if photos from the premiere are any indication.

The UK air date for the third season of Sherlock has been confirmed. The hit BBC detective drama, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will return to BBC1 on New Years Day.
