According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show - titled Ashecliffe - would be set in an isolated mental hospital, before the events of the movie. The drama would "explore the hospital's past and misdeeds by its founders - a la FX's American Horror Story: Asylum."
Dennis Lehane, the author of the book on which the movie was based on, will pen the script alongside Tom Bernardo, while a whole string of executive producers include DiCaprio, Brad Fischer and Rick Yorn. Set in the 1950s, 'Shutter Island' followed U.S Marshall Teddy Daniels who investigates the disappearance of a resident at Ashecliffe hospital - an institution for the criminally insane.

HBO has a strong working relationship with Scorsese. The acclaimed director is also prepping an untitled "rock n roll drama" for the network, in collaboration with Boardwalk Empire's Terence Winter and Breaking Bad's George Mastras. We know Bobby Cannavale will star but further details are scarce at this point.
We're not sure on a timescale for Ashecliffe though Scorsese's priority at the moment will be Silence, a movie set in the seventeenth century about to Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and spread the gospel of Christianity. The movie stars Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson and Adam Driver and is set for 2015.
Scorsese will also direct a biopic of Frank Sinatra and is executive producing numerous projects including Bleed for This, Tomorrow and the crime-drama The Snowman.
