Martine McCutcheon

Former soap actress and pop star Martine McCutcheon has recalled people commenting about her weight, saying she was treating “like a piece of meat” early on in her career.

McCutcheon, who was a national favourite in the role of Tiffany Mitchell on ‘EastEnders’ in the mid ‘90s, has revealed in a new interview with The Mirror the pressure she was put under when she started her career to stay thin, and said that many remarks have stayed with her to this day.

"I'm Truly So Touched" - Martine McCutcheon Thanks Fans After Filing For Bankruptcy

Martine McCutcheon

Now that the news of Martine McCutcheon’s bankruptcy has hit the tabloid, the singer and former soap opera star has posted a message on her Twitter feed to thank her fans for their support. McCutcheon is entering bankruptcy, after racking up debts of £187,000 (her main debtor is HM Revenue & Customs). On Twitter, she posted a message to say “I can't begin to express my love and gratitude for such kind and encouraging messages. I'm truly so touched. I love you guys. Thank you. Xx”

McCutcheon is perhaps best known for playing the role of Tiffany Mitchell in the popular UK soap opera EastEnders. She has also had a successful pop music career, with the number one single ‘Perfect Moment’ and has authored a top ten best-selling novel, with another novel on the way. McCutcheon was also the face of Activia yoghurt’s TV marketing campaigns for some time Last year, Hello! magazine featured Martine’s wedding, when she tied the knot with Jack McManus on the shores of Lake Como, in Italy.

KPMG have been appointed trustees of the 36 year-old’s affairs. David Standish, said “Ms McCutcheon petitioned for her own bankruptcy at Kingston-Upon-Thames County Court,” The Scottish Daily Record reports. He added: “we are now responsible for administering her estate and are in the process of establishing the individual's assets and liabilities, the largest creditor being Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs."

Financial Woes For Martine McCutcheon As Former EastEnder Declared Bankrupt

Martine McCutcheon

Not such a perfect moment for Martine McCutcheon, who has been declared bankrupt. Despite having had a successful music career, a successful acting career, a successful stint as the face of Activia yoghurts and having successfully authored a top ten novel, it would appear that Martine has not successfully remembered to pay her taxes, over the years.

“We are now responsible for administering her estate,” said David Standish of KPMG, the firm appointed as her trustee “and are in the process of establishing the individual's assets and liabilities; the largest creditor being Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs.” Martine, perhaps most famous for playing Tiffany Mitchell in EastEnders and for her number one hit ‘Perfect Moment’ made the petition for bankruptcy at Kingston-Upon-Thames County Court, under her given name, Martine Kimberley Sherri Ponting.

Yesterday, the 36 year-old actress’ agent did not respond to calls and her website gave no news of the bankruptcy. Ed Thomas, an insolvency practitioner at the accountancy firm Mazars told The Sun that it’s not the first time he’s been aware of a celebrity failing to meet their duties and pay their taxes, as they should by law. “we are seeing several celebrities failing in their obligation to ensure that their financial affairs are dealt with properly… it has to be the responsibility of the individual to make sure their financial affairs are up to date, particularly their income tax affairs… any abrogation by the celebrity of their responsibility to deal with income tax and other debt issues, is no real defence.”

Love Actually Review

Very Good
I can only presume that the British calendar is so uniquely screwy that it allows for a Christmas movie to open a week after Halloween. Or maybe Love Actually is just in a universe of its own... one in which the prime minister is inaugurated in November and where an adverb can be used to modify a noun.

But a little oddness is forgivable: Directing a movie is a strange place for Richard Curtis, who's written umpteen Brit-friendly movies and TV shows over the years but hasn't directed one, until now.
