Julien Gahyde (Mathieu Amalric) is on trial for an unspecified crime. His mind wanders to a time when he and a woman, Delphine (Léa Drucker), spent days together, locked away in a room with not a care in the world. Here, the couple love each other and even bite each other. But as the plot thickens, the charges against Julien get called into question more and more. Just what is it he has been charged with?
'The Blue Room' marks screen writer and director Mathieu Amalric ('Quantum of Solace', 'The Grand Budapest Hotel') in his fourth feature directorial role. He also stars as the main character in this adaptation of the novel by Georges Simenon, alongside Léa Drucker ('Just Before Losing Everything', 'In My Skin') and Stéphanie Cléau, who also contributed to the film's screenplay. The film is set and filmed in France, the native country of both Amalric and the original writer Simenon. It was originally released as part of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival on the 16th May, 2014. It was released in France on the same day. The film received moderate reviews from critics and filmgoers alike. It was produced by Alfama Films and Paulo Branco.
