Mark Ruffalo has taken to social media in order to respond to the critical backlash over the casting of Matt Bomer as a transgender sex worker in the upcoming movie Anything, of which Ruffalo is an executive producer.

The 48 year old actor defended Bomer’s involvement with the project, although he said he was “glad” that the issue of the casting was being raised. According to a report in Variety, Bomer’s character will befriend a suicidal man, played by John Carroll Lynch.

“To the Trans community. I hear you. It’s wrenching to see you in this pain. I am glad we are having this conversation. It’s time,” he tweeted on Wednesday (August 31st).

The release date for the Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL, has been set for the 3rd June 2015, according to Deadline. The follow-up to Stephen Soderbergh's immensely successful 2012 comedy will see Channing Tatum reprise his role as level-headed stripper, Mike, alongside returning cast Alex Pettyfer, Matthew Mcconaughey, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello.

"I think everyone's gonna be back," the 33 year-old actor told MTV, weakening rumours that the Oscar-winning McConaughey wouldn't appear for a second film. "Obviously no-one's deal are done which is always kind of scary." The Jupiter Ascending star also hinted at the sequel's plot: "This one will be a road trip movie. Without giving a lot away, we don't wanna make it a really serious, slice-of-life movie. We want to have reality in it, but we don't want to make it some dark drama."

As soon as Charlie Hunnam announced his departure from the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie, the internet began to buzz with rumours about why the actor had decided to call it quits and who would replace him in the lead role of kinky billionaire, Christian Grey.

The Sons of Anarchy star reportedly dropped out of the movie, expected in August 2014, due to his already "immersive TV schedule," according to a statement from the studios behind the film, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Matt Bomer had probably the best weekend of his young life after The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news that Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam had gotten cold feet and would no longer be starring in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule, which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," Universal Pictures said in a statement. THR claimed the actor was "overwhelmed" with the attention he received since the casting announcement and decided to drop out.

After things were looking so promising and as though they were finally ready to get off the ground, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie has hit yet another stumbling block. Charlie Hunnam, the man signed on for the lead role as Christian Grey, has officially dropped out of the project, leaving the film's makers with the task of finding yet another Grey.

Citing an "immersive" schedule ahead of him as the reason he dropped out of the project, his own excuse has since been followed by others claiming he had ulterior motives to leave the book adaptation behind. When his decision to leave the project was made clear on Saturday, 12 October, through a statement from Universal, it cited "Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule," as the sole reason for his exit, "which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

However, since then there have been other explanations as to why Hunnam chose to drop out of the project. According to E! News, the role of Christian Grey would bring with it more and more media attention and Hunnam was already becoming overwhelmed with the attention the role brought him. It isn't the role of the S&M-obsessed Grey that has put him off of the role, just the constant media and fan frenzy that surrounds it and for this reason he chose to give up the coveted role. The attention and the pressure was intense," the source explained.

If the prospects of having to get his kit off many times on screen as well as learn how to deftly wield whips and paddles may have flustered Charlie Hunnam, the actor who'll play Fifty Shades of Grey's Christian Grey, then the news that over 75,000 furious 50 Shades readers had taken their discontentment towards him playing the lead male role to Change.org to demand a casting reshuffle, should by rights make him feel practically terrified.

However, it seems that the 33 year-old English actor could not be more confident in his skills, and quite probably takes all the petitioning and hate tweeting as a challenge to be the best Grey possible. Describing his experience of the hotly anticipated adaptation of EL James' erotic trilogy so far as "exciting and fun and weird and compelling," there's little sense of fear or trepidation in Hunnam's words as he talks to Hollywood Life.

Some fans of the bestselling series are in uproar about the casting of Hunnam and Dakota Johnson in the roles of Grey and his love interest Anastasia Steele.

The casting announcement was made on Monday (2nd September) by author E.L. James on Twitter. Certain fans were in uproar and chose to create a petition which called for the recasting of the Fifty Shades actors. To date the petition has raised over 57 000 signatures.

The furious petition, launched on Change.org, has now gathered 23.5K supporters who feel that White Collar's Matt Bomer and Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel should take the main roles of kinky billionaire Christian Grey and student-turned-sex-slave Anastasia Steele. It's perhaps true; Bomer and Bledel do perhaps fit EL James' character descriptions a little better than the (both blonde) Hunnam and Johnson so there's little wonder as to why these actors were imagined when 50 Shades fans were reading.

It’s the end of days, people. Not delighted with the choices of Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson to play the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, fans of 50 Shades of Grey – or at least one with plenty of time on his-or-her hands – have started a petition to get them replaced.

"Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE," the organiser of the petition wrote, using capital letters to emphasize the point.

HBO will produce a brand new adaptation of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart.

The adaptation was first announced by The Hollywood Reporter a year ago, but it looks like it will finally be going into production later this year. The adaptation is helmed by director Ryan Murphy and will star some hefty names in the business – Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer, to name a few. So, the wait might have actually been worth it. The Normal Heart is set to premiere sometime in 2014, but, this being HBO, don’t count on any concrete dates just yet. Nevertheless, the expectations, at least on the network side of things, are pretty great: "We are so proud to be involved with this monumental project,” says HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “Ryan has assembled an extraordinary cast to bring Larry Kramer’s landmark theatrical achievement to the screen for the first time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this important film to HBO.”

At this point, not much is known about the production, other than the fact that it has some impressive names attached to it. Of course, if 2012 has taught us anything, it is that big names aren’t always a guarantee for success. But, at such an early stage, they are as close as you can get.

Bret Easton Ellis has gotten himself into yet another spot of bother on Twitter. Not content with upsetting Matt Bomer recently, now Ellis has targeted his vitriol at the Oscar-winning movie director Kathryn Bigelow. It’s amazing how much hatred you can shake up in the space of 140 characters, now, isn’t it? Ellis started off by posting a message on his Twitter feed last night (December 5, 2012) about Bigelow’s latest movie Zero Dark Thirty, saying that it “might win critics awards but Silver Linings Playbook will win the Best Picture Oscar. This is how it always happens...”

Now – that tweet alone wouldn’t have ben so bad, surely; a nice even-handed approach to his Oscars predictions. Ellis being Ellis, though, couldn’t (or wouldn’t) leave things there and said “Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she's a very hot woman she's really overrated…” and then made things worse by saying “Kathryn Bigelow: Strange Days, K-19 The Widowmaker, Blue Steel, The Hurt Locker. Are we talking about visionary filmmaking or just OK junk?” Unkind words, indeed from Bret, there, about the only female to ever have won an Oscar for Best Director.

This isn’t the first time that Ellis has caused a stink on Twitter, either. Not so long ago, he blasted rumours that Matt Bomer would be playing the lead in Fifty Shades of Grey, because he was gay. Er… that’s why they call it acting, Ellis… Geez. Let’s hope Bigelow gets the last laugh and lands an Oscar, eh?

Veteran movie star Kirk Douglas chips in for the Thanksgiving LA Mission

This Thanksgiving marks the 76th anniversary that the Los Angeles Mission serves out a festive meal to the hundreds of unfortunate homeless people who line the city's streets, and there were more than a few famous faces popping up among the volunteers to serve up over 3,500 meals to those in need - not least veteran actor Kirk Douglas who belied his 96 years old age to don a red LA Mission apron and help serve up the good stuff.
