Celebrities Defend BBC3, Channel's Fate To Be Decided Thursday.

Jack Whitehall Matt Lucas

The BBC has deemed BBC3 an unnecessary investment and the channel is to be axed from television, with the content being released online. However, the comedy stars of BBC3 disagree with the decision and have launched a campaign to save the youth-oriented channel.

Jack Whitehall
Jack Whitehall was one of the first celebrities to rally behind the channel.

Harry Hill And Julie Walters Race Scooters For 'The Harry Hill Movie' [Pictures]

Harry Hill Julie Walters Jim Broadbent Matt Lucas Sheridan Smith

Forget The Fast & The Furious! This week, comedian Harry Hill and British movie legend Julie Walters took to their scooters and powered through a quiet London suburb to film scenes from Hill's new movie Harry Hill The Movie. In a pretty hilarious looking scene, the comedian drives a yellow mobility scooter in typically slapstick fashion, falling off it at one point as Walters - who plays his grandmother - cackles away.

Iconic actress Walters was almost unrecognizable in a white frizzy wig, dark sunglasses and purple jacket while Hill was dressed as, well, Harry Hill. The comedian opted for his signature suit with big collared shirt and creeper shoes. The movie follows Harry and his grandmother as they attempt to get his pet hamster from London to a vet in Blackpool before the clock winds down. It's seems a pretty silly premise, though Harry has assembled quite for the cast for the movie, including revered actor Jim Broadbent, comedian Matt Lucas and recent Olivier award winner Sheridan Smith.

Directed by Steve Bendelack and co-written by Harry, Jon Forster and James Lamont, the movie is due to hit cinemas later in the year.

The Look Of Love Review

Very Good

Michael Winterbottom vividly recreates swinging 1960s London in this biopic about one of Soho's most notorious figures. It's a lively and attention-grabbing film, but the cast and filmmakers never create a character we can identify with or care about, which leaves the film feeling a bit meaningless. And even if we're interested in the history, we are never able to feel the emotions.

As he did for Winterbottom in 24 Hour Party People, Steve Coogan plays a colourful real-life figure, this time Paul Raymond, also known as the King of Soho. Raymond made his fortune through strip clubs and lap-dancing venues, then expanded into publishing men's magazines before purchasing large swathes of property in London's artiest district. But his marriage to Jean (Friel) was strained by his rampant womanising, including a long-term relationship with actress-model Fiona Richmond (Egerton). And the main woman in Paul's life was his daughter Debbie (Poots), who was in line to inherit his fortune when she died of a heroin overdose in 1992.

The film is framed with Debbie's funeral, showing Raymond at his lowest point. But then, even when he was living the high life, his self-obsession casts a heavy shadow. Everyone in this story is just as lost in their own addictions. And it's sad to see Raymond himself never able to move on from his own early years, amassing a £1 billion fortune, which he left to Debbie's children when he died in 2008. Coogan bravely never tries to get us to sympathise with Raymond, delivering a focussed performance that's darkly bittersweet. Poots adeptly captures Debbie's inability to see her own talents as she falls into a whirlwind of drug abuse. And Friel and Egerton get the most engaging roles as woman thrown aside along the way.

Small Apartments Trailer

Franklin Franklin is a wig-donning, Swiss wannabe loner who lives alone in a small apartment having previously lived with his mentally deranged brother Bernard. He's not the only eccentric character at the complex, however; his wacky neighbours include the Liquor store worker Tommy Balls, Tommy's herpes ridden girlfriend Rocky, the beautiful Simone and the ill-tempered Mr. Allspice. One day, Franklin finds himself in a spot of bother when he accidentally murders his landlord Mr. Olivetti when he pays him a visit about the rent (of lack of it). In an attempt to cover up the homicide, he clumsily stages it as a suicide, which the cops become very suspicious of. Things don't get any easier either, as his Franklin's brother dies suddenly from a brain tumour and he ends up getting badly beaten in the street. Will Franklin find that future that he dreams of? Or will his tedious life gradually spiral further out of control?

Good

Relentlessly quirky and strange, this pitch black comedy manages to combine its outrageous silliness with some surprising emotional resonance. Swedish filmmaker Akerlund (who directed Lady Gaga's Telephone) keeps the film's pace snappy as it lurches through a series of crazy situations that aren't remotely believable. But the starry cast manages to hold our interest.

Everything centres on a run-down apartment complex in Los Angeles, where Franklin (Lucas) lives in his dumpy flat, dreaming of someday moving to Switzerland to play his alpine horn in the mountains. Clearly unhinged, Franklin desperately misses his brother Bernard (Marsden), who went away but still sends him a daily audio-tape message. Then on the first day a tape fails to turn up, Franklin's whole life starts to unravel, starting with the fact that his landlord (Stormare) is lying dead on his kitchen floor. Franklin's attempt to get rid of the body draws the attention of two detectives (Crystal and Koechner), who start quizzing the neighbours (Knoxville and Caan). But this is only the start of Franklin's big adventure.

The story is structured as a series of wacky set-pieces set apart by luridly colourful flashbacks and fantasy sequences that fill in the back-stories for each of the characters. As a result, everyone on screen bursts with personality as well as motivations for everything they do, which makes watching them a lot more interesting than we expect. Crystal and Caan emerge as the most engaging people on screen, but even nuttier characters like Lundgren's "Brain Brawn" pop psychologist are fun to watch. By contrast, Lucas gives Franklin an eerily blank face: this is a man who still hasn't figured out who he is.

Look Of Love Trailer

Paul Raymond became the wealthiest man in the UK when he opened the country's first strip club, the Raymond Revue bar, after starting out his nightlife career as a mind-reader cabaret performer. When the bar became highly successful among gentlemen everywhere, his risqué empire only grew into various men's magazines including 'Men's Only', 'Razzle' and 'Mayfair' not to mention spawning various new clubs across the entertainment district of London, Soho, earning him the nickname 'King of Soho'. Though, while loved and admired by thousands, he was also scorned in other circles and even his family began to suffer from the effects of his billion pound industry. His marriage to one of his strippers, Jean, did not meet an amicable end as he embarked on a whirlwind affair with a younger star, and his previously close bond with his daughter Debbie whom he loved more than anything in the world, was broken after her sudden death at the tender age of 36. This is the story of the triumphs and turmoil of Britain's richest man.

David Walliams' Come Fly With Me Crashes Without Matt Lucas

David Walliams Matt Lucas

The comedy of David Walliams and Matt Lucas largely defined the British scene in the early noughties, with Little Britain and Little Britain USA. Since then, they have also written and starred in Come Fly With Me, which did well commercially, garnering impressive audience ratings. However, Matt Lucas has said that he doesn't want to return for a second series, so it has been run into the ground.

"I was disappointed - I was hoping to do more because when you've started something like that, one series never seems enough," Walliams said, about Lucas' refuse to return, reports the BBC.

Since the first series both comics have kept busy, branching out in their careers. Lucas was in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, has appeared on the West End in Les Mis, and is set to be in a Steve Coogan movie The Look of Love later this year. Walliams has written two children's books, as well as being a judge on Britain's Got Talent on ITV1. This Christmas saw one of his books, Mr Stink televised by the BBC.

It is a lengthy process, which sees Santa's team of elves - including a 'Gift Wrapping Battalion' who carry scissors and tape guns - training in the isolated Arctic during the summer by performing drills and practising their wrapping skills on unsuspecting polar bears.
