Could Mel Gibson Direct 'Suicide Squad 2'?

Mel Gibson

'Suicide Squad 2' is well on its way to fruition and it has just been revealed that a number of directors have been approached to helm the movie - including Mel Gibson. Both DC and Gibson fans have reacted with surprise, because his involvement way well turn the film franchise on its head.

Mel GibsonMel Gibson rumoured to be in talks for 'Suicide Squad 2'

Whether that will be in a good way or a bad way remains to be seen, though many are indeed expressing doubt that this Hollywood star could go from the likes of critically acclaimed classics like 'Braveheart', 'The Passion of the Christ' and, more recently, 'Hacksaw Ridge' to a series with more comedy value than gravity.

Mel Gibson On Becoming A Father For The Ninth Time

Mel Gibson

While appearing on TV to talk about his new movie, Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson reflected on his personal life. Currently expecting his ninth child with his girlfriend of two years, Rosalind Ross (the baby will be her first), Gibson joked that he had “stretch marks” because he’d become a parent so many times.

“I’ve got stretch marks, man,” the 60 year old actor and director joked during a Tuesday morning appearance on ‘Good Morning America’. “I got stretch marks.” Co-host Michael Strahan said “that happens when you get past five”.

Mel Gibson Marks 10 Years Of Sobriety

Mel Gibson

Oscar buzz is building for Mel Gibson's new movie Hacksaw Ridge, which recounts the true story of Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), a WWII combat medic who won a Congressional Medal of Honour despite his refusal to carry a weapon. This week the film landed 13 Australian Academy Award nominations, including best film, director and acting nods for Andrew Garfield, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving and Rachel Griffiths.

Gibson says he is not the same man he was 10 years ago, when personal scandals send him into rehab. "I am a member of a 12-step programme and I achieved sobriety like that," says the 60-year-old. "Imagine the worst moment you have ever had being recorded and broadcast to the world, and it wasn't meant to be public. You didn't stand on a soapbox and do it, but that's what happens. It is disheartening when you've been 10 years sober and you have to read every year or so that you're loaded, but you're not. It's a disingenuous reportage."

'Hacksaw Ridge' Star Andrew Garfield Doesn't Believe Mel Gibson 'Rarely Enjoys' Movie Making

Mel Gibson Andrew Garfield

Mel Gibson returns to directing with 'Hacksaw Ridge'; the true story of World War 2 hero and army medic Desmond T. Doss who refused to take a weapon into battle. He is played by Andrew Garfield, who is certainly no stranger to on screen heroism.

Andrew GarfieldAndrew Garfield stars in 'Hacksaw Ridge'

When 'Hacksaw Ridge' received its standing ovation at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, it's difficult to know whether the applause was down to the movie or down to that fact that Mel Gibson has finally taken a seat in the director's chair again after 10 years. But it seems that his absence might have little to do with the scandalous outburst of 2006 and more to do with the fact that he doesn't actually like filmmaking that much.

Blood Father Review

Good

It's been four years since Mel Gibson played a lead role in a movie, and with all of the tabloid headlines in the meantime it's been easy to forget how magnetic he is on screen. He's looking rather grizzled in this action thriller from French filmmaker Jean-Francois Richet (Mesrine), but his piercing presence turns what's essentially a cheesy exploitation film into something remarkably gripping.

He plays an ex-con tattoo artist named Link, who lives out in California's Mojave Desert, next door to his 12-step sponsor Kirby (William H. Macy). His home may be a trashy trailer, but he has cleaned up his life. Although his quiet reverie is disturbed by thoughts of his 17-year-old daughter Lydia (Erin Moriarty), who has been missing for four years. So he's stunned when she calls him out of the blue for help. Kicking into action, he rescues her and immediately discounts her stories that the ruthless henchmen of her late gangster boyfriend Jonah (Diego Luna) are after her. It doesn't take long for Link to realise that Lydia isn't exaggerating, and as they go on the run, he turns to old prison friends (including Michael Parks, Dale Dickey and Miguel Sandoval) for help. Even though he doesn't really trust anyone.

Director Richet doesn't seem very interested in the father-daughter drama at the centre of this film, even though it's far more involving than the madcap action carnage. Gibson and Moriarty do what they can to create some chemistry amid the mayhem, but they only have a few scenes in which they can push their characters a bit further. And frankly after the set-up, the audience needs that to put the violence in context. This is mainly due to the fact that the brutal pursuit is fairly predictable, and the side characters, as well played as they are, are little more than stereotypes.

Blood Father Trailer

John Link hasn't been the best father, up until recently he's constantly been on the wrong side of the law and usually at the bottom end of a bottle too. Having been in prison, John and his daughter have become estranged, Lydia is actually missing and has been for years. John's only real connection to his daughter is the missing poster he keeps pinned up in his RV.

In recovery and now working a legal job as a tattoo artist, John admits that there's not much he wouldn't do to right the wrongs of his past - including losing contact with his daughter but also says there's very little he can do. When he receives a phone call from Lydia claiming that she's in serious danger, John is glad to hear his daughters voice but also worried about her safety.

As the father and daughter return to his home, John raids Lydia's possessions looking for answers and what he finds leads him to believe that she's in real danger. Lydia informs her dad that she's been living with a cartel leader and that, after accidentally shooting him, his crew is now out for vengeance. John must turn to past associates in order to formulate a plan to protect his troubled daughter.

Mel Gibson

Despite the huge controversy surrounding the first film in 2004, Mel Gibson is planning to release a sequel of 'The Passion Of The Christ'. Sylvester Stallone and his franchise for ageing action stars is back! Yes, the gang has nearly doubled for the latest Expendables adventure, stirring in big-named oldies along with fresh blood. Daniel Radcliffe & 4 More Celebrities Who Battled Alcoholism

Daniel Radcliffe Mel Gibson Amy Winehouse Robert Downey Jr Anthony Hopkins Bradley Cooper

Fame, fortune, talent and beauty are amongst the qualities those in the public eye enjoy. Unfortunately, they come with a heavy price of media attention, pressure and fan obsession. Whilst many celebrities are able to deal with the pressures of constant scrutiny, others find it considerably more difficult and turn to alcoholism and substance abuse as a means of coping. Amongst them is Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe
Daniel Radcliffe admitted he had problems with alcohol.

We still think of Radcliffe as the eleven year old who first graced our screens as Harry Potter in 2001 but, at the age of 24, Radcliffe has admitted he has experienced problems with alcohol due to his long running fame. In an interview with Sky Arts, due to be broadcast later this year, he explained how the fame and attention from Harry Potter had taken its toll.

Guess Who? Shailene Woodley And Five Other Celebrities In Disguise

This week A Fault in Our Star actress Shailene Woodley disguised herself in a long curly wig so she could enjoy her new movie at a regular cinema incognito. It may seem like a very simple disguise but it worked and Shailene was able to enjoy the film without causing a scene. Of course sometimes for a celebrity a disguise is necessary, especially when you're looking to carry out normal, everyday activities. Here’s five other examples of stars who have tried (and mostly failed) at going incognito. Come on, would you have recognised them?

Cast Of "Expendables 3" Tanks At Cannes. Literally.

Sylvester Stallone Mel Gibson Jason Statham

Tanks at Cannes – if anyone could pull it off, it had to be Sly Stallone and company. Stallone and Expendables 3 costars made their arrival, riding along the Croisette in the French city in two massive Soviet tanks. Sure, it didn’t do anything to help the already terrible traffic in Cannes around festival time, but it did contribute to the film’s eye-popping promotional bill of $2 million, spent over the course of the festival.

Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone shows his support for the efforts to rescue over 200 girls kidnapped by militants in Nigeria.

Besides the tank stunt, admittedly one of the better ideas to come out of a Hollywood promo team, the $2 million budget also included a promo of clips from the movie and a star-studded press conference at the Carlton hotel. The press conference featured almost all the stars of the film (and the tank stunt) including returning heroes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolph Lundgren, as well as new recruits Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Kelsey Grammar. Nu Image and Millenium Films must be working on a very liberal budget this time around.

Filthy Rich: Hacker Exposes Personal Finances Of Ashton Kutcher, Jay-Z, Hillary Clinton

Ashton Kutcher Jay Z Hillary Clinton Mel Gibson

Ever wondered what Ashton Kutcher’s bank account totals? What about how much Jay-Z spends on his plastic each month? Well, a mysterious hacker has ensured those details are a whole lot easier to find after somehow breaching security, obtaining the financial records of some of the biggest celebrity names on the planet, and posting all the details online. The LAPD is frantically trying to track down the hacker who supplied material to the website exposed.su.

We can tell you now: Ashton Kutcher has a nice little kitty, while Jay-Z, Britney Spears, Donald Trump, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hulk Hogan aren’t short of a dime or two, as you’d expect. The website’s main page, titled The Secret Files, features a picture of a zombie-looking girl. Music from Showtime’s ‘Dexter’ plays in the background as visitors are encouraged to click a celebrity name to discover their home addresses, social security numbers, mortgage accounts, bank accounts and credit card statements.

A series of phone numbers were also posted, though most went to production companies, finance firms and the like. The site, still online on Wednesday morning (March 13, 2013), features the tagline, “If you believe that God makes miracles, you have to wonder if Satan has a few up his sleeve.”

Who's Your Daddy? Is Mel Gibson The Father Of Jodie Foster's Kids?

Mel Gibson Jodie Foster

Mel Gibson is once again at the center of speculation after it was rumored that he may be the father of Jodie Foster's children. The tales began on Twitter almost immediately after the actress' Golden Globes speech, during which she cleared up rumors about her sexuality. Some viewers highlighted the likeness between Foster's sons Charles, 14, Kit, 12, and Gibson as they sat together at the awards' ceremony.

In her heartfelt speech, Foster told the Braveheart actor, "You know, you save me, too." She has never revealed her son's paternity and reportedly said she won't tell them until they turn 21. "The kids look like him [Gibson] but blonder," said one amateur genealogist told the New York Post. It would go some way to explaining Foster's fierce loyalty to Mel Gibson, despite his anti-Semitic scandals and alleged abusive treatment of Oksana Grigorieva, his former Russian girlfriend and mother to his daughter Lucia, 3.

While Hollywood movie producers shunned Gibson, Foster worked with him on the 2011 movie The Beaver and called him "one of the most loved people in the business," adding, "He's not saintly and he's got a big mouth. But I knew the minute I met him that I would love him the rest of my life."

Jodie Foster's Cecil B DeMille Award And Why She's The Perfect Woman For It

Jodie Foster Jane Fonda Mel Gibson

The question as to why Jodie Foster was honoured with the esteemed Golden Globe 'Cecil B DeMille Award' is a far easier one to answer than why it has taken so long for her to be recognised for her talents and "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment". With starring roles in some of the late 20th century's most iconic movies, she has been at the cornerstone of the American film industry for almost 40 years. Her acceptance speech at the ceremony (13th Jan), while slightly enigmatic, shed further light and further reason as to why she is more than deserving of the award.

Born in 1962, Foster's rise to fame came early. She appeared in TV's Paper Moon during the 70s and by 1976, aged just 14, she had landed the role that would catapult her into the attention of the masses- co-starring as Iris Steensma in Taxi Driver alongside Robert DeNiro. She won two BAFTAs for the role as well as landing her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her role in the 1988 thriller The Accused saw her win both the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actress, and did the same just two years later for her starring appearance in Silence of the Lambs. Her career has never slowed and she has also turned her hand at producing and directing.

In her speech she left everyone reeling though when she came out as gay. "I already did my coming out a thousand years ago, in the Stone Age," she said, quoted by CBS. "Those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually to everyone that knew her, everyone she actually met. But now apparently I'm told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance, and a primetime reality show... my reality show would so boring."

First Look At Tom Hardy As Mad Max

Tom Hardy Mel Gibson

Tom Hardy is taking on Mel Gibson’s classic role as Mad Max in the series reboot, Fury Road.

Lucky for fans of the franchise, the director’s chair is once again filled by George Miller, the man behind the original franchise. The latest news, creating buzz around the flick is the recently released picture of Hardy in costume (and what a costume it is), which gives fans an idea of the character’s new image. In all fairness, it isn’t all that new. Hardy’s leather jacket and overall rugged look instantly bring to mind Gibson’s original portrayal. The image surfaced, after Hardy sent an autographed copy to a fan. According to The Daily Mail, however, the British actor will aim to bring something new and original to the role, while still paying homage to Mel Gibson’s classic portrayal.

'I would have to pick up where Mel left off, but in all honesty, it would be ridiculous to pick up where Mel left off,” he explained. “He is Mad Max. I have to bring something entirely different and new to the stage.” Is that some performance anxiety we detect? Audiences will soon be able to decide for themselves if Hardy has done the character justice. Mad Max: Fury Road is set to hit theatres sometime in 2013.

Hollywood And Religion: Or, How Angus T. Jones Became A Laughing Stock

Angus T. Jones Mel Gibson Joe Eszterhas Tom Cruise John Travolta Angelina Jolie Bruce Willis John Malkovich

When Angus T. Jones recorded his interview with Christopher Hudson, the leader of the Forerunner Chronicles Christian group, he may well not have expected the reaction that he got. The star of the Two and a Half Men sitcom denounced the show as “filth” and urged viewers to stop watching it. Presumably not quite the marketing plan that the show’s executives had in mind (though as we know, these bouts of ‘technically bad’ publicity have a habit of working in your favour) but Angus was keen to share all that he had learned since turning to religion.

In the interview clip, Angus speaks to Hudson as though he is some form of demi-god and looks thrilled to even be in the same room as him, reaching out to touch him as though he can’t believe he’s real. As he very publicly looked a very generous gift horse in the mouth (He earns a reported $350,000 per episode. Yes, per episode), the world winced and cowered away, sniggering. Within hours of the video clip hitting the internet, it had gone viral and the 19 year-old had quickly become a laughing stock.

What exactly was Jones’ biggest crime though? Dissing his employers? Undermining the very thing that gave him the wealth and privilege that he’s able to enjoy? Or was it all the nutty, slightly alarming religious stuff that he was spouting for the majority of the interview? If he’d just said “Two and a Half Men is cr*p,” would we have cared quite as much? Would the story have run quite as far and quite as wide as it did? If there wasn’t that cringe-worthy explanation of why he went on the hunt for a church with a “black gospel theme,” would this all have mattered so much? If he hadn’t starting aligning light entertainment with the devil, because of his newfound religious beliefs? Of course not.

Channing Tatum Is Sexiest Man Alive 2012, Ryan Gosling Fans Go Crazy

Channing Tatum Ryan Gosling Mel Gibson Nick Nolte George Clooney Brad Pitt Tom Cruise Richard Gere Johnny Depp Javier Bardem

Channing Tatum has been named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2012, beating the likes of Ben Affleck, Denzel Washington and last year's winner Bradley Cooper in the process. The result confirms the fact that People magazine really, really, hate Ryan Gosling

Tatum joins a select club of Hollywood stars who have taken the title since the magazine began the feature in 1985. Mel Gibson, Nick Nolte, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Richard Gere and Johnny Depp have been named the sexiest man alive, though the title still evades Ryan Gosling. Some of the Blue Valentine star's fans have already begun bashing their heads against keyboards across the globe. One user said, "channing tatum definitely isn't the sexiest man alive tho like what about joseph gordon levitt OR ryan gosling HELLO PEOPLE," while another said, "Eh, Channing Tatum sexiest man alive? I still think we have to give it up for Ryan Gosling, guy always gets the short end of the stick." Poor old Ryan. Anyway, Tatum, 32, hails from Alabama and is best known for a couple of soppy romantic-comedies, though turned in an excellent comedic performance in 21 Jump Street. Speaking in the latest issue of People magazine, the actor says he's ready to begin a family with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum, "I'm ready; I think she's ready. The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we'll see where we go after that. It's really easy for us guys to say, 'I want like 15 kids. Jenna will be like, 'Well you better get another wife!"

The special issue of the magazine also hands out awards in other category, including Men of the Year, Sexy At Every Age and Hot Dogs (a list of Hollywood's dog lovers). Ryan Gosling got a nod in the latter, while Javier Bardem made it only to the scary sounding 50 Shades of Grey.

Chicken Run Review

Essential
Since the beginning of time (or at least the domestication of animals), the chicken has been man's feathered enigma. Like so many of its feathered friends, it has fallen into the realm of the metaphor (i.e. "He's a chicken."). Unlike so many of its edible counterparts, it has survived the hassles of religious communities unscathed (no one will persecute you for eating a chicken wing). It has found its way into the realm of ontological questions (which came first: the chicken or the egg), as well as into sanguine curiosity (why does a chicken continue running around after you cut its head off?). It has become the basic standard for all foods (tastes like chicken). It has changed with the times, entering the debate about genetic engineering (see the accusations against KFC using frank-n-roosters). It has even, through its progeny, entered into the world of our children (I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am). As long as civilization has existed, the chicken has haunted our collective hubris with its often-charming idiocy.

Amongst both edible entrees and feathered friends, the chicken is the idiot God...

What Women Want Review

Weak

You know how in testosterone-charged action movies an explosion will be shown over and over again in slow motion, and from four or five different angles? The ultimate sign of a guy movie, right?

Well, in "What Women Want" -- a romantic comedy starring Mel Gibson as a man who can hear women's thoughts -- director Nancy Meyers shows, on more than one occasion, Mel passionately kissing Helen Hunt in slow-mo and from four or five different angles.

Yes, what I'm saying is that "What Women Want" is very possibly the chickiest chick flick of all time.

The Patriot Review

OK

For a relentlessly unoriginal, pandering and predictable, two-and-a-half hour Revolutionary War epic that white-washes slavery, chooses exaggerated slow-motion action over any interest in historical accuracy and is helmed by a director who has demonstrated little talent for anything but overblown textbook filmmaking, "The Patriot" isn't a bad movie.

It's a mimeographed knock-off of "Braveheart" in buckskin vests and powdered wigs, but that doesn't seem to bother Mel Gibson, who won an Oscar for directing that film and stars in this one as another tread-upon colonial who takes up arms against England for his nation's freedom.

A hero of the French and Indian War who has since pledged to raise his children as a pacifist plantation farmer in South Carolina, Benjamin Martin (Gibson) is an amalgam of real revolutionary war figures, fantasized by screenwriter Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan") as a politically correct hero who is a wonderful widower father, who communes with the natives (he's versed in the deadly use of a Tomahawk hatchet), who employs his plantation workers instead of enslaving them, and who takes up arms again only after a stuffy, sadistic redcoat Colonel named Tavington (Jason Issacs) kills one of his sons in cold blood when he finds Martin's home filled with rebel soldiers receiving first aid after a battle.
