Melanie Griffith is ''grateful'' to be more than five years sober.

The 57-year-old actress, who split from Antonio Banderas last June after 18 years of marriage, celebrated the milestone by posting a screen-shot of her sobriety app on Instagram on Wednesday (04.02.15).

Alongside the image, which showed she has abstained from drugs and alcohol for 2,029 days, she wrote: ''Today I am most grateful @soberarchitectofadversity.''

Melanie sought treatment in rehab for 90 days in 2011 after becoming addicted to painkillers that she was originally prescribed to treat a back injury she sustained while skiing.

The actress previously admitted her addiction took a toll on her relationship with Antonio, 54, at the time.

She said: ''I went away to rehab for three months; it took 10 days just to detox. We had two family weeks there, but we didn't follow through. Antonio was supportive to the extent that he can be, but if you're not an alcoholic or drug addict, and you find out your wife is a bad one, it's hard to deal with.

''It's very foreign to him. Addiction runs in my family but not in his...And I don't mean that against him...It's a difficult thing to happen in any family, and in that way he has been totally by my side.''

Despite their split, Antonio cast Melanie in sci-fi thriller 'Automata' last year and recently insisted he would always love her.

He said: ''I really admire Melanie as an actress, I have always said that. I have a big respect for her in her career, for that reason she is in the film ('Automata'). She is a person that I loved, I love and I always will love, whatever our status is.''
