Melissa McCarthy reveals she's 'in such a happy spot' despite a reviewer from The Observer branding her 'tractor-sized' and a 'hippo' following her appearance in comedy 'Identity Thief'.

The 'Bridesmaids' star may not be look like your average Hollywood leading lady, but this bodacious beaut has proved that being a major movie star isn't all in the dress size with Oscar and BAFTA nominations under her belt alongside an MTV and Emmy award win. However, that's clearly not the opinion of Rex Reed; a reviewer from The Observer who slammed her new comedy and regurgitated a string of very personal abuse. 'Melissa McCarthy is a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success', was the concluding point, only after referring to her as a 'female hippo', 'a screeching, humongous creep' and 'cacophonous, tractor-sized'.

In response, Melissa expressed her pity for the critic during an interview with the New York Times. 'I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate', she said. 'I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot.' She did, however, admit that had the comment been made some years earlier, 'it may have crushed me'.
