Meredith Vieira, the American journalist and co-host of NBC's 'Today' show, successfully completed the 26.2 mile New York City Marathon, and was pampered with roses and champagne on her first day back to work today (8th November 2010), reports the Huffington Post.
56-year-old Vieira ran the gruelling marathon with her co-host Al Roker, and the pair were told to take it easy when they returned to the news show. Co-anchors Matt Lauer and Ann Curry brought in two masseuses to give Vieira and Roker foot massages after the former said she had a huge blister on her toe. Footage was then shown of the pair running along with 45,000 others, and being tearfully greeted by their families at the finish. Vieira joked, "So is this not a good time to tell them we took the subway?"
In a recent interview with Ladies' Home Journal Magazine, Vieira revealed that she'd made changes to her diet in order to become healthier. She said her nutritionist had put her on a 28-day detox, banning sugar, gluten-containing foods, alcohol, and caffeine. The 56-year-old said it was time to change the way she eats because she had encountered sleepless nights and low energy days.
