Cinemas are set to get a whole lot more magical this winter with the release of the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's hit Broadway musical, Into the Woods. Directed by Chicago masetro Rob Marshall, the film depicts beloved fairytale characters as they've never been seen before, and features an all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp

Meryl StreepMeryl Streep will be showing off her vocal talents once again

The story follows the Baker and his Wife, played in the film by James Corden and Emily Blunt, who are cursed by The Wicked Witch (Meryl Streep) to be childless, and subsequently set off on a quest 'into the woods' to find the items they need to break the spell. Along the way they will bump into familiar faces such as Cinderella and her Prince Charming (Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine) and the Big Bad Wolf (Johnny Depp).

The cast certainly have a host of singing credentials between them, with Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp known for their performances in film versions of Mamma Mia and Sweeney Todd respectively, whilst Anna Kendrick was the star of smash hit Pitch Perfect. Less well known, Emily Blunt sang in BBC drama 'Gideon's Daughter', whilst Chris Pine played a musician in indie film Small Town Saturday Night.  James Corden recently starred in the Paul Potts biopic One Chance, and although he didn't have the opportunity to sing in the film, he has performed with Gary Barlow and Dizzee Rascal, and even admitted to being in a few boy bands before he made it to television with Gavin & Stacey

At just under two minutes in length, the trailer doesn't give much away, but the film certainly looks stunning and audiences get their first glimpse of a number of familiar fairytale characters including Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel.

The film is due for release on January 13th in the UK.
