Meryl Streep loves knitting.

The 'Devil Wears Prada' actress insists she has a very mundane existence at home with husband Don Gummer but prefers being at home than glitzy showbiz parties.

She said: ''I live a very unspectacular life. I love to sit on my chair in the living room and knit. Or I cook or read a book. I'm a very frugal person.''

While she may lead an ordinary life, when she is at home, Meryl is able to reflect on her successes as she keeps her awards on display.

Asked where her three Oscars are, she said: ''They are all in the living room, besides all the other prizes. I don't want to boast with that, they are more kind of a reminder to me, that you shouldn't rest on your laurels and also that you should challenge yourself at a higher age.

''I've been a long time in that business, but I haven't lost the passion for my job yet.''

The 65-year-old star feels lucky she began her career when she did as her looks weren't as important as they are now.

She told Germany's Gala magazine: ''I wouldn't say [I'm] ugly, but also not really pretty. I think, that my career was never based on how I look - that was my luck... In Hollywood nowadays you have to look like a Victoria's Secret model also if you are over 40, to get jobs. I think that's awful.... If I see old movies (of me) I'm shocked sometimes how big my nose seems.''
