Actress Meryl Streep has revealed her secret addiction to British daytime TV programmes, admitting she loves real-estate based shows such as ‘Homes Under the Hammer’. The Oscar winner made the revelation while promoting her new film Florence Foster Jenkins on ‘The Graham Norton Show’, alongside co-star Hugh Grant.

"I'm addicted to everything where they do real estate. I love ‘Grand Designs’ and ‘Homes Under the Hammer’,” Steep told Norton. The actress then gave a special shout-out to Channel 4’s ‘Come Dine With Me’, which she described as ‘fabulous’.

While on Norton’s sofa Streep also revealed that she hates her Oscar-nominated performance in The French Lieutenant's Woman. When asked if there was an acting performance of her's she didn’t rate Steep said: "Oh yes, but, I'm not going to tell you which film.”

"You won't guess because I collected awards for it and it was venerated but I was young and new at it and I wasn't living the role.” Eventually Streep revealed that the movie in question was the 1981 drama, which also starred Jeremy Irons.

Looking back over her decades long career, the 66-year-old said she felt there was a shift in her fame after she starred in box office hits The Devil Wears Prada and Mamma Mia. ”I used to be able to float about between characters and somehow things changed,” Streep said.

"Everything was much bigger and I became a celebrity rather than an actress - there's a difference," she added. "Everyone is really kind but it just gives you hyper self-awareness, which is not the greatest thing.”
