Into The Woods

9. Into The Woods (Dec)  - Promising to be this year's Mamma Mia, the classic Sondheim musical boasts Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and James Cordon. There's also a new version of Annie (Dec) with Quvenzhane Wallis, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.

Gone Girl

8. Gone Girl (Oct) - The book everybody was reading last year will lead the awards charge next year, starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Other prestigious films include Russell Crowe in Darren Aronofsky's Noah (Mar) and Nicole Kidman as Grace of Monaco (Mar).

Nymphomaniac

7. Nymphomaniac (Mar) - Lars Von Trier's next controversy-courting epic is being released in two parts. If it gets past the censors, that is. And Scarlett Johansson also promises something sexy in Under the Skin (Mar).

The Hobbit: There And Back Again

6. The Hobbit: There And Back Again (Dec) - Peter Jackson's second Tolkien trilogy thunders to a conclusion in December, and we can't wait. Other blockbuster sequels we're looking forward to: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Jul), Fast and Furious 7 (Jul), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Jul) and Sin City 2 (Aug).

The Monuments Men

5. The Monuments Men (Feb) - Quirky comedy looks like it fills this WWII heist adventure (Ocean's 14, perhaps?). Other offbeat films we can't wait to see: Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel (Mar) and Michael Fassbender in Frank (May).

Muppets Most Wanted

4. Muppets Most Wanted (Mar) - The always reliable Muppets are back for a European romp that looks pretty hysterical. Other promising comedy sequels include: 22 Jump Street (Jun) and the Farrellys' brilliantly titled Dumb and Dumber To (Dec).

Interstellar

3. Interstellar (Nov) - Christopher Nolan's films are always event cinema, and this sci-fi thriller looks amazing. Other potentially mind-bending hits: Transcendence (Apr) and the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending (Aug), plus Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot (May).

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

2. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (Nov)  - After the terrific Catching Fire, hopes are very high for the last two movies, although the story gets much, much darker now. Other potential teen franchises: Divergent (Apr), The Fault in Our Stars (Jun) and The Maze Runner (Oct).

X-Men: Days Of Future Past

1. X-Men: Days Of Future Past (May) - Bryan Singer's sequel is utterly unmissible, combining the casts of the original X-men trilogy with First Class. More superhero fun hopefully lies in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Mar), The Amazing Spider-man 2 (Apr) and Guardians of the Galaxy (Aug).

And there are a few films we're not too excited by: Liam Neeson's next dumb action thriller Non-stop (Feb), Tom Cruise's next sci-fi romp Edge of Tomorrow (May), yet another reboot for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Oct) and the spin-off of a spin-off no one asked for, Planes: Fire and Rescue (Aug). There are also a few sequels that make us nervous: Transformers 4 (Jul), Horrible Bosses 2 (Nov) and Night at the Museum 3 (Dec).
