Biography

Metronomy (formed 1999) Metronomy is an electronic band, formed by Joseph Mount in Devon, in 1999. The lineup of the band is: Joseph Mount (singer, songwriter, guitar, keyboards), Oscar Cash (saxophone, backing vocals, keyboards), Gbenga Adelekan (bass guitar and vocals) and Anna Prior (drums).

Band History: Metronomy was started by Joseph Mount whilst he was in Devon. It was originally intended as a side-project from the bands that he was drumming for. Using an old computer given to him by his father, Joseph started writing electronic compositions. He chose the name on the basis that it sounded cool and interesting and felt to him to be in keeping with bands that he liked, such as Autechre and Funkstorung.

Joseph moved to Brighton and recruited Gabriel and Oscar to perform as a backing group (known as The Food Groups - though this name was dropped as they became fully incorporated into the band).

The debut album from Metronomy was Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe). Joseph Mount also earned himself a reputation as the go-to guy for remixes, which he did using the Metronomy name. He often added new vocals or instrumentation to his remixes, including adding a French monologue about Nottingham into his Goldfrapp remix. However, despite having a good track record with his remixes, a remix of U2 that he completed (of 'City of Blinding Lights') was rejected by the band's record label.

The next album for Metronomy was Nights Out, released in 2008. Singles released from the album include 'Radio Ladio', 'A Thing For Me' and 'Heartbreaker', which was remixed by Kris Menace.

The English Riviera is the title of the third album from Metronomy, which was released in 2011. The album featured the singles 'The Look', 'The Bay' and 'She Wants'.

Since the band's formation, Metronomy have toured with a number of popular acts, such as Justice, Bloc Party, CSS and Kate Nash. The band often incorporate simple dance routines and light shows into their live gigs and the band members wear push-button lights on their chests, which they then switch on and off in unison.

By The Sea Festival 2017 - Festival Review

Now in its third year, and most definitely at home, By The Sea festival returned to Margate in glorious style. Having surely established itself as Kent's premier music festival, By The Sea once again upped its game with an inspired roll call of artists. Across the last weekend in September, and in some iconic venues that included Dreamland heritage theme park and the Margate Winter Gardens, East Kent was treated to a spectacular musical menu.

By The Sea Festival 2017 - Festival Review

If the thrill of riding the U.K.'s oldest wooden roller coaster, The Scenic Railway, taking a stroll along the golden sands or even seeing Steve Davis DJ in Olby's Soul Café were not enough to tempt you down to the coast on Friday night then surely huge dancing bears and the Hall By The Sea's headline acts were. As the dodgem DJs began to spin their last few tunes, the theme park took on a new guise under the bright lights and neon kitsch. As the yearning for Candy Floss subsided and the need for an Acapulco Taco took over Dreamland came to life.

Dutch Uncles were in great spirits in The Hall By The Sea kicking off their set with 'Oh Yeah' off of their most recent and most successful album to date, 'Big Balloon'. Singer Duncan Wallis was in fine form, excited to 'finally be there' and even inviting the crowd to come and 'ram us later' on the dodgems. With some very funky slap bass, a playful exuberance and a tight, polished set, Dutch Uncles proved a delight. After delivering crowd favourites, 'Face In' and 'Fester', Duncan declared, 'That's enough dancing around like p***ks, we're 30 for God's sake! If we wanted to be sick we'd have gone on the waltzers!' 'Steetlight' and a pulsating, percussively excellent 'Big Balloon' followed before the first of the evening's crowd participation, the harder hitting 'Dressage', closed out their set.

Leeds Festival 2014 - Live Review

It came, It went, It conquered as per. Leeds Festival 2014 was a real pinnacle for this year's UK live music, cramming it's masses into the colossus fields of Bramham Park, this year's Leeds Festival was a true menace of a machine. From strolling the sights and stalls of the relatively tame arena, to hiking through the foothills of Red camp and afar, the beast of Leeds Festival was out in full glamour this year. Not only for the sheer size and scale of the glorified playground, nor for the big bad names it captured upon its stages, but purely the immense and sometimes overwhelming atmosphere of Leeds Festival is what attracts the crowds in their droves - (Each and EVERY year).

Leeds Festival 2014 - Live Review

This year's line-up, though transparent in parts, boasted an array of big names and must sees. From Gerrard Way's premier solo show, right the way through to Macklemore's fur coat - teenage girl-screaming onstage antics. All considered, It is fair to say Leeds festival caters to the masses, though in doing so, often leaving the fringes of those masses at somewhat of a loose-end. Fear no-more, as this year with 10 arena stages and a dozen campsite venues, attendants waved farewell to mud-mooching moments of waiting around and embarked on the northern event of the year. With Oxfam blazers, slush puppy pleasantries and a number of near 24-hour rave spots all been thrown around, It was hard to find even a moment for the annual carbon monoxide poisoning - plastic bag burning ritual  around the camp fire.

Without further ado, we present to you this year's top live sets and why they really made this year what it was.

Here we go, here we go! Leeds Festival 2014, yet only half of us have scored a return ticket from the headaches and hangovers of last year's epic line-up. Each and every year, thousands of people across the social spectrum and across the UK flock to the fields of Leeds for what they know is THE music event of the year. Of course, catering to the masses is no easy feat but with ten stages all rigged up, this machine, emblem of the north, once again raises its flags way up heavens bound.Moving from Temple Newsam a few years back now, LF has really made itself at home within the colossal 1,235 acre grounds of Bramham park. Returning bands themselves (or the newcomers for that matter), facing glorious deja-vu on approach to the site if not already attended as rowdy teens, are in for a real good show.

Leeds Festival 2014 - Preview

With the festival being such an icon and in itself evolving in sheer mass and motor each year, it's understandably hard to really get a good hold-down on the lineup. With time clashes, mud, bar queues and a serious lack of phone battery, it's only fair we deal out a helping hand of this year's 'Not To Be Missed' sets to make festival life a little easier.

In no preferential order at all.
