Val Kilmer appears to have confirmed that he has been suffering from cancer after all, a few months after the actor had denied that was suffering from the disease.

The former Batman and Top Gun star, 57, was speaking to his fans in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session last Wednesday (April 26th), and responded to a question regarding the speculation late last year around his health after Michael Douglas had said Kilmer was “dealing with” throat cancer.

At the time, Kilmer had denied Douglas’ claims in a statement via Facebook saying that he had “no cancer whatsoever”. Now, however, he seems to have tracked back on that, saying that he has undergone “a healing of cancer”.

Val Kilmer struggled to speak during an appearance on Thursday at a screening of the film version of his play Citizen Twain.

The actor had been forced to deny rumours he was suffering from cancer earlier this month, after friend Michael Douglas said he was, "dealing with exactly what I had, and things don't look too good for him.”

But at the event in Los Angeles Kilmer told the audience he was still dealing with a swollen tongue, but declined to comment on his health any further.

Val Kilmer has moved to clear up rumours that he is seriously ill with throat cancer, after his friend Michael Douglas told reporters that “things don’t look too good” for the former Top Gun actor.

The 56 year old movie star has denied he’s suffering from cancer in a Facebook post he released late on Tuesday (November 1st), saying that his former co-star Douglas, although he means well, is “misinformed” about the situation and they actually haven’t seen each other in two years.

Michael Douglas has signed on to do his first Marvel film and will star as Hank Pym in the upcoming movie adaptation of Ant-Man. As revealed by the Marvel website, Douglas will join director Edgar Wright and star Paul Rudd, who plays Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, in the movie due out next year.

Hank Pym first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 in January 1962 and was the first man to assume the identity of Ant-Man in the comic books, going on to assume other identities as the comic series continued, including the size-changing Giant-Man and Goliath, as well as the insect-themed Yellowjacket and briefly the Wasp, the alter ego of his crime-fighting wife Janet van Dyne. Pym was also one of the founding members of The Avengers and has regularly found himself fighting Ultron for the sake of humanity, so don't be surprised to see him tied into the next Avengers film too.

The 66th Cannes Film Festival kicked off this week with the glittering red carpet premiere of The Great Gatsby, attended by filmmaker Bas Luhrmann and cast members Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher. The film opened in America last Friday and in the UK this Thursday.

Mulligan also stars in another film in competition at Cannes: the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis is the story of a folk singer (Oscar Isaac) in 1960s New York. Steven Soderbergh lands in sunny Cannes this week with his HBO movie Behind the Candelabra, a biopic of the flamboyant pianist Liberace, played by Michael Douglas. The American entertainer's personal life was embroiled in scandal with rumors of homosexuality which he always vehemently denied - this despite his close relationship with a young chauffeur named Scott, 39-years his junior.

Scott, played by Matt Damon, becomes an important figure in the pianist's life and he is even persuaded to under facial surgery by the pianist. It led to a desperate struggle with drugs and various fiery arguments between the pair. "I didn't want to do a biopic in the traditional sense. I wanted to go narrow and deep," Soderbergh told the Los Angeles Times of the movie, "It's Alice going down the rabbit hole. That's a much more elegant way to get into Liberace's life." On his love scenes with Damon, Michael Douglas told the New York Magazine, "Once you get that first kiss in, you are comfortable.Matt and I didn't rehearse the love scenes. We said, 'Well - we've read the script, haven't we?"

The 2013 Cannes Film Festival will open on Wednesday (May 15, 2013) with Baz Luhrmann's 3-D version of The Great Gatsby, a throwback to the roaring twenties adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic book of the same name. The announcement caused unrest earlier in the year given that Gatsby would already have been released in the U.S by the time Cannes came round (it was released last week) though there's a couple of other things to worry about.

The Great Gatsby opened in the United States to fairly lacklustre reviews, dampening the buzz surrounding the start of the 12 day Cannes Film Festival. The critics have already seen it. The critics didn't like it very much. "This dreadful film even derogates the artistry of Fitzgerald, who wrote "The Great Gatsby" while living on Long Island and in Europe," said the Wall Street Journal. It holds a score of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. 

Nevertheless, champagne bottles will be popped, deals will be made and Harvey Weinstein will be wandering around deciding which movie to snap up as his next Oscar winner at this year's festival. Stars expected to attend include Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Ryan Gosling, Emma Watson and the legendary Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachan. "This is the hardest 10 days of the year for me. There are always three or four movies that are exceptional and you have to find them so it is a detective job," said Tom Bernard, co-president and co-founder of Sony Pictures Classics.

With a $600 000 price tag and some extremely tight security around the island price tag, the ceremony is hardly quaint, but it’s still an intimate affair. The couple are set to exchange vows in front of their four daughters and some close friends, including Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. The Damon family have been together since 2005, when they married in a modest civil ceremony in New York city. They met in 2003, while Damon was shooting Stuck on You and Lucia was bartending.

While reports that the resort is being closed down for the ceremony have been discredited by E!News, the St. Lucia authorities are still taking serious security measures for the event.

Michael Douglas' son Cameron Douglas has been beaten in a Pennsylvania prison after a crime boss put a $100 bounty on him for 'being a rat.' A source told the New York Post that Cameron, 34, suffered a broken leg and finger after a New York mobster offered payment to anyone who hurt the convicted drug dealer. Is it really worth the hassle for $100? 

Anyway, somebody obviously wanted the cash, and duly gave Cameron a severe beating. The insider said, "He broke his femur, which is hard to snap, and had to have a rod inserted. He told health services staff that he hurt them playing handball. You don't break a femur playing handball." Douglas is currently serving a 10-year stretch for dealing crystal meth and smuggling drugs for himself while in prison. He was accidently exposed as a 'snitch' during a bail hearing in 2010, when Dr Robert Millman let slip that Douglas had agreed to testify against his suppliers, the Mexican immigrant brothers David and Eduardo Escalera. His father Michael and mother Diandro Douglas have visited Cameron in prison, though not together. The gangster allegedly involved in the beating is "the self-proclaimed King of the Italians' who "won't tolerate rats." 

Cameron - who has reportedly reshaped himself in prison by pumping irons and getting tattoos - is not eligible for release until 2018. He has been working as a weekend orderly in a housing unit for $1.65 per month.

Catherine Zeta Jones has spoken to In Style magazine about her long-standing battle with mental illness. In an attempt to erase the stigma associated with manic depression and other similar illness, she revealed that since being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she has actually started to appreciate life more than she did previously.

The 43 year-old actress was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder – a form of manic depression – in April last year, when she was admitted to a rehabilitation clinic in the US. At the time, her husband, actor Michael Douglas was recovering from his treatment for throat cancer. “I’m not the kind of person who likes to shout out my personal issues from the rooftops,” said the actress, “but, with my bipolar becoming public, I hope fellow sufferers will know it is completely controllable… I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don’t have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it.”

Zeta Jones admitted that one of the “smartest” things she’s done, since she’s been learning to live with her illness, is to stop going online and googling comments about herself, made by others. “I just stopped. Cold turkey. And it’s so liberating.” She went on to say that the last 18 months, since her diagnosis, have been as scary as they have been enlightening. She said that it’s been “an intense time in good ways and bad. You find out who you really are and who are you are married to. You find things inside yourself you never imagined were there.”

Streisand's ex-husband, Elliott Gould, was also at the event, in support of his and Barbara’s son Jason, who accompanied his mother on stage. Barbra introduced Jason to the audience as her “pride and joy,” before performing ‘How Deep Is the Ocean’ together.

The stars came out to pay tribute to the late American composer and conductor Marvin Hamlisch who passed away last month aged 68, with Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin and Liza Minelli appearing at a memorial service in tribute to the great music writer.

The BBC reports that the invite-only service was held at New York’s Juilliard School and saw Minelli perform If You Really Knew Me from the musical They’re Playing My Song whilst Franklin sung James Bond theme Nobody Does It Better. It was a fitting tribute to someone who won three Academy Awards, a Tony, four Grammys , four Emmys and a Pultizer Prize during their career.
The event was arranged by Streisand and she commented on Hamlisch's life by saying "Without explaining why or how, we understood each other’s anxieties," in reference to their shared Jewish heritage.

An audience that included Michael Douglas and Sarah Jessica Parker were treated to performances not just by three women who are among the finest voices in popular music history, but also three of Hamlisch’s closest friends, making it a wholly fitting evening. Minelli said that she’d known him since they were in their teens, whilst Franklin performed a version of the spiritual ballad Deep River in homage. The tribute also featured While I Still Have The Time - a song from his final musical, The Nutty Professor, which premiered in Nashville in August.
