Michael Fassbender was advised to moisturise before his Golden Globes 2014 appearance.

The actor was looking his best as he collected the Best Motion Picture: Drama prize alongside his co-stars for Steve McQueen's '12 Years A Slave' at the awards ceremony on Sunday (12.01.14) thanks to an intense pre-show grooming session with Anna Bernabe.

The Hollywood hunk was given strict orders to slather on RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream 24 hours before the event and to focus on hydrating the skin underneath his beard.

Anna told People's Stylewatch: ''I always advise men to get a good night's sleep and to moisturise, especially in the evening. Men with facial hair often tend to forget to moisturise underneath their beards. This is so important because those areas become very dry, especially when the beard is trimmed shorter.''

While the 36-year-old star looked effortlessly handsome on the red carpet at the event, his look took work and he was treated to a special blow-dry to maximise his hair's volume.

Anna explained: ''Michael and I agreed to have his hair styled back to open up his face, with a slight side part. I used my blowdryer to set the volume and enhance his natural waves.''

It was also revealed that the actor enjoys listening to music while he gets pampered to put him in the mood before the red carpet.

His stylist added: ''Michael loves listening to music while getting groomed. Usually he likes to play different songs on YouTube. On one occasion we went through an '80s phase, singing along to songs like Dire Straits' 'So Far Away.'''
