The Essential Michael Jackson - Album Review
The Essential Michael Jackson

I don’t know, maybe call me a fool, but I have only never seen Michael Jackson as anything other than a child trapped in an adult’s body, at times he reminds me of scared rabbit caught in the headlights of a car. Can you imagine from virtually the minute you learnt to walk you was on the road touring from state to state, city to city and town to town throughout the world. Michael probably new the words to ABC before he could say mum or dad. Before leaving kindergarten he was a world-wide superstar as the cute little front kid of the Jackson 5. their life was non-stop following the recordin deal, came the tour, then the TV show etc etc and today we have full grown footballers moaning that they have to plat too many games in a year. Michael wasn’t

playing 90 minutes once or twice a week, he was doing it day in and day out before he knew what two and two was. This album may seem familiar if you bought his and the Jackson’s greatest hit around Christmas because it sought of mixes the best from both albums. After all this time and all these greatest hits albums from the Jackson camp and they still can’t get it perfect. Things like “This Place Hotel” or “Heartbreak Hotel” depending on if you had the UK or import version of the original album that it came from, “Blues Away” and more recently the stunning “Butterfly” are just some of glaringly obvious missing cuts. That said this is still a good album for the Michael Jackson fan. “I Want You Back”, “ABC”, “The Love You Save”, “Got Be There”, “Blame It On The Boogie”, “Shake Your Body” and “Can You Feel It” all show Michael in his group day’s with his brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon, Tito and later Randy. Then comes THE era as far as any real MJ fan is concerned “Off The Wall” from it came such delights as “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough”, Rock With You, She’s Outta My Life” and of course the title cut. Then came “Thriller” the album that made Michael Jackson as big a household name as Coca-Cola. All the obvious hits from it are on here plus the amazing “Human Nature” that is simply nothing short of a total classic. More huge selling hit’s followed on the next album “Bad”, but the fact was that Michael and no one else could probably ever match the success he had with “Thriller”. Other tracks that stand out on this hit selection are the amazing and oh so under-rated tracks “Remember The Time” and “You Rock My World” produced by R&B dons Teddy Riley and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins respectively. One day im sure the world will realise just how good Michael’s last studio set was, if they don’t there really is no justice.
