The cast finished shooting at exterior locations such as Highclere Castle in Berkshire and the village of Bampton in Oxfordshire, England at the start of August (15) but they still had a couple of weeks to complete indoor scenes.

The main cast members began a countdown on social media using the hashtag #LastDaysOfDownton to celebrate the team behind the show and share behind-the-scenes pictures as they wrapped their final scenes.

Elizabeth MCGovern finished over the weekend (08-09Aug15) and posted a picture of herself hugging her onscreen daughter Dockery on Twitter.com, adding, "Literally. My last. #tears. #tears #tears", which was followed by another snap of her joking around in costume with Hugh Bonneville, who plays her onscreen husband.

Dockery wrapped on Monday (10Aug15) and marked the occasion by releasing a photograph of her playing with twins Zac and Oliver Barker, who shared the role of her character Lady Mary's son George, on Instagram.com. She wrote in the caption, "Today is the last day of what has been the most glorious 6 years of my life. I am so grateful to have been part of this family. Thank you to each and every one of you out there for watching..." and she later added, "And that's a Wrap".

Her co-star Froggatt, who plays Anna Bates, is scheduled to finish on Wednesday (12Aug15) and she shared a picture of her character's shoes on Twitter.com on Tuesday (11Aug15), writing, "About to put these little shoes on for the penultimate time! Last day for me tomorrow. Eeek! " before posting a snap of her pouting with her onscreen husband, played by Brendan Coyle.

The sixth and final season premieres in the U.K. next month (Sep15).
