Shia LaBeouf Guilty Of Smoking, Yelling At Actors At Broadway Show

Shia LaBeouf Alan Cumming Michelle Williams

Shia LaBeouf has pleaded guilty to being a general nuisance at a Broadway show in which he lit up cigarettes and yelled at the actors on-stage. LaBeouf's representatives said the former Transformers star had gotten treatment for an alcohol problem since his arrest in June and a judge agreed that if he stays in treatment for three months and out of trouble for six, the case would be dismissed.

LaBeouf, 28, was watching Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams in a revival of Cabaret when he started lighting up cigarettes, swearing at security guards and shouting at the actors. He shouted "do you know who I am?" when escorted out, according to court papers.

The Ladies Of "Destiny's Child" Back Together In Summery "Say Yes" Video

Michelle Williams Beyonce Knowles Kelly Rowland Destiny's Child

Are we all sufficiently in love with Destiny’s Child still? For those fans, who still live for the trio’s reunion, Michelle Williams just dropped the video to her latest, Jesus-praising song, Say Yes!

Michelle Williams
Michelle's new album, Journey to Freedom, is due out in September.

The video focuses on the feel-good tone and the message of unity, instead of the religious aspect of the song. It’s an endearing video, as Michelle, Beyonce and Kelly pop up in succession in their respective scenes, before the actual reunion takes place at what looks like a giant party towards the end.

Critics On 'Cabaret': Alan Cumming And Michelle Williams Receive Near Rave Reviews

Michelle Williams Alan Cumming

Come to the cabaret, old chum, come to the cabaret – this one has Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming in it. Williams has just made her Broadway debut and, well, Cabaret is still awesome – no surprises there. The revival of the beloved musical, a staple in every university theater group’s repertoire, opened at t at the newly transformed Kit Kat Klub at Studio 54 on Broadway (254 West 54th Street). By Friday morning, the critics should have already ripped into it. Surprisingly, most musical theatre buffs only had good things to say about the Roundabout Theater Company’s revival.

Michelle Williams
Reviewers were conflicted on Michelle Williams' Sally.

Ben Brantley, The New York Times: "A little more than 16 years after it first opened, and only a decade after it closed, it feels as if the popular Roundabout Theater Company production of "Cabaret" never left Studio 54, where it reopened on Thursday night. Alan Cumming, who won a Tony as the nasty M.C. in 1998, is back, offering a slightly looser, older-but-wiser variation on the same performance...The most conspicuous difference is the bright blond actress portraying Sally...The promiscuous, hard-partying Sally is now embodied by a very brave Michelle Williams, who doesn't look all that happy to be there. I'm assuming that's more a matter of character interpretation than of personal discomfort, but it does put sort of a damper on the festivities...” So if you like your Sally Bowles unwaveringly upbeat, this adaptation might not be for you… then again the character is very world-weary, so the acting choice seems apt.

Famously, Liza Minelli took the role of Bowles starring opposite Michael York in the 1972 film adaptation. The musical is based on The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood, and tells the story of American cabaret singer Sally Bowles who performs at the Kit Kat Klub in Berlin. Brian Roberts, a naive British graduate, is befriended by the vivacious Bowles and the two have an affair set against the backdrop of interwar Germany.

Changes For Michelle Williams. Her Hair, That Is.

Michelle Williams

Actress Michelle Williams gave fashion and style blogs some new material yesterday (April 9), when she debuted her brand new look.

The Oz: The Great And Powerful actress showed up to a Target fashion launch to support designer Kate Young, and she looked fabulous for doing it. The actress sported slightly longer hair, shaped in an asymetrical pixie cut – essentially that look we all want to pull off ever since Rihanna did it. Sadly, few of us regular folk have the guts for such an edgy crop, but hey, at least now we have Williams to gawk at and imagine! Maybe the actresses bold choice will also inspire some budding fashionistas to take the leap? Who knows, we might have a summer trend on the rise here.

The actress paired her brand new look with a polished, preppy outfit consisting of a white blazer over a sheer polka-dotted top and blue silk shorts – a wise choice for the surprisingly warm New York spring. The brand new cut is part of the actress’s short to long hair transformation, as she shared recently with E!News: “I think I’m ready,” said the actress. “It’s on its way, slowly but surely.” Looks like we’ll see Michelle debuting a lot of new styles in the coming months.

UK Magazine Defends Michelle Williams 'Racist' Photoshoot

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams clearly didn’t get the Hollywood memo that was sent round about ‘not blacking up and not playing cowboys and Indians,’ two of the things most likely to cause offence in modern society in the USA. Williams, for some unfathomable reason (well, we assume there was money involved), Williams went along with a UK magazine’s suggestion to pose wit long black braids, a feather in her hair and a checked shirt and jeans, like some kind of androgynous Native American, staring sullenly at the camera’s lens.

A spokesperson for AnOther magazine insists that no racial stereotyping was intended and in a statement, said “While we recognize the seriousness of this debate, the image in question in no way intends to mimic, trivialise or stereotype any particular ethnic group or culture, as recent reports suggest," Fox News reports. "The image ... is one of a suite of images taken from inside the magazine, presenting Ms. Williams in a series of eight different imaginary characters. All the characters in the story were inspired by multiple fashion and cultural references, characters and eras, as well as by our admiration of Ms. Williams as one of the most respected and talented actresses of her generation. While we dispute the suggestion that the image has a racist subtext in the strongest possible terms, we're mortified to think that anyone would interpret it in this way.”

Complaints about the images came from Ruth Hopkins, an attorney and writer for LastRealIndians.com. She described the portrait as racist, saying “Just as Blackface is never okay, Redface is never okay.”

Oz Fan-Boy James Franco On Why He Signed On For 'Great And Powerful'

James Franco Sam Raimi Michelle Williams Rachel Weisz Mila Kunis

Oz: Great and Powerful overcame mixed reviews to take the top spot at the U.S. box office over the weekend, earning $80.3 million and an additional $69.9 million worldwide, according to studio estimates. Cynical industry insiders had claimed Sam Raimi's new movie had flop written all over it, though despite a $200 million budget, the prequel to The Wizard of Oz looks in a fine position to make big bucks.

We caught up with its lead star, the chameleon like actor James Franco, to talk why he signed on for the project. "First of all, I heard Sam [Raimi] was directing this movie. I did the three Spider-man films with him, and I've known him over 10 years. Not only is he one of my favourite directors to work with, but I'm a fan of his films. So I jumped at the opportunity to do this", he explained. Franco, who has dedicated much of time to the weird and wonderful scripts of Hollywood in recent years, revealed he'd been a massive fan of Oz since he was a child, "I read all the L Frank Baum books when I was a kid, so I was excited because I'd be able to step into that world of my childhood imagination. And when I read the script I saw that they were going to be loyal and respectful of everything we lovers of Oz expect, and that there would be familiar things that you need for it to be the land of Oz," he added.

The new movie sees Franco star as the wizard, with Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz playing the trio of witches he encounters after crashing in the magical world of Oz. Though it could retain it's No.1 position this weekend, it faces competition from Jim Carrey and Steve Carell's new comedy 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone' and another of Franco's movies, Spring Breakers.

A Week In Movies: Star Wars Episode VII Shapes Up, Harrison Ford Joins Anchorman: The Legend Continues And Oz The Great And Powerful Hits Theatres

The movie casting rumour mill has gone into overdrive this week when Carrie Fisher seemed to confirm that she will indeed be back for Star Wars Episode VII. And then George Lucas chimed in to say that all three stars - Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill - are on board to reprise their iconic characters 30 years after 1983's Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Nothing is official yet, but we can probably expect a big announcement soon.

Meanwhile, Ford has joined the cast of the comedy sequel Anchorman: The Legend Continues, which is currently filming with Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate. And Halle Berry has officially rejoined the X-men for Days of Future Past, along with her original trilogy costars Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman and Anna Paquin, plus the cast of First Class.

Mila Kunis Signs Up For 'Oz: Great And Powerful' Sequel, Nobody Else Does

Mila Kunis Sam Raimi James Franco Michelle Williams

Hmm, looks like the studio heads have really got one over on Mila Kunis and the 'Oz: Great and Powerful' gang here. The movie doesn't hit theaters until tomorrow (March 8, 2013) though Disney has already persuaded the Hollywood actress to sign up for a sequel. The problem is, nobody else seems to known about the potential of a franchise, especially Sam Raimi who outright denied signing on the dotted line.

With lukewarm reviews at best, the prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz' isn't going to be among the critics' best movie lists of 2013, though Disney will be hoping it smashes the competition at the box-office and recoups some of its reported $200 million budget. Mila Kunis will also be praying for big numbers after telling E! Online's Marc Malkin, "We're all signed on for sequels." Hmm, that's not what Rachel Weisz, or Michelle Williams, or Sam Raimi says.

Weisz wasn't as concrete on the possibility of playing evil witch Evanora, saying, "I hope so," before adding, "If there is one, I'd love to be in it." Maybe she should have words with Mila.

Oz The Great And Powerful hasn't had such a strong critical reaction in the United States when it was released at the tail end of 2012, but they'll be hoping for better things in Europe. The film - a prequel directed by Sami Raimi of the classic 1939 musical The Wizard Of Oz - is out in cinemas in the UK next week (March 8, 2013) and enjoyed its European premiere last night in London's Leicester Square, which saw all of the film's main players turn out as the British weather turned to spring.

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder? Not For Michelle Williams And Jason Segel As They Split

Michelle Williams Jason Segel

Michelle Williams and Jason Segel have ended their relationship after a year citing distance as a key component of their split, according to US Weekly. The pair had been dating since January 2012, having reportedly been introduced by a mutual friend, Busy Phillips who was in both Freaks and Geaks (with Segel) and Dawson's Creek (with Williams), but it seems with Jason working in LA and Michelle living with her daughter in NYC, the distance just got too difficult.

While we're very sad for Michelle Williams and Jason Segel that they've split, it also leaves the door open to them both in the future for anyone else. They may not be the obvious 'hot couple' of Hollywood, but now single they're each the most eligible bachelor and bachelorette available.

Segel is a talented comedian, actor, producer and writer, having penned both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and bringing the Muppets back to life in last year's movie, imaginatively named The Muppets. Michelle Williams is one of the best actresses that has come out of America over the past couple of decades though understated and undersold, she's been in modern classics and beloved movies such as Brokeback Mountain, Shutter Island and Blue Valentine. She also has a daughter with the late Heath Ledger. Ever the professional she has continued to do promotional work for her latest movie, Oz The Great and Powerful. Jason's next project wont be out until June, it's called This Is The End.

Embarrassment At Oz The Great And Wonderful Premiere For Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams Mila Kunis Rachel Weisz

Michelle Williams had the sort of nightmare that, really, doesn't count as much of a nightmare at all, unless you happen to be the main star at the premiere of your new film, Oz The Great And Wonderful, and there's a load of paparazzi about the place scrutinising your every move.

So, yeah, Williams has had a nightmare, in that she revealed the slightest bit of black underwear when wearing an otherwise classy looking outfit. What was galling for Williams was that her outfit was in no way possible risqué whatsoever, the 32 year-old dressed in a floral frock that raced down towards her ankle. The slit on the right was her downfall, going all the way up to reveal her pants. Damn.

Williams was there alongside co-stars Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz, both of whom were also looking highly glamorous at the event. Weisz was wearing a red dress and accessorised with a similar coloured clutch, whilst Kunis also went for a floral style in her dress, coupling it up with chrome high heels. Even the three ladies had to take a back seat when it came to turning heads though, with the film's main male star James Franco arriving to the Hollywood premiere in a hot air balloon. Oz the Great And Powerful, a prequel story-wise to the classic Wizard of Oz, is out on March 8.

Mariah Carey's New Song 'Almost Home' Recorded For 'Oz The Great And Powerful'

Mariah Carey James Franco Disney Mila Kunis Rachel Weisz Michelle Williams

The next big Disney movie 'Oz the Great and Powerful' will feature a song co-written and recorded by Mariah Carey, aptly named 'Almost Home'.

As Billboard reports, the track, which was co-written by Simone Porter, Justin Gray, Lindsey Ray and Carey herself, will be released by Island Def Jam records on February 19th. It will also be accompanied by a video shot and directed by David LaChapelle, who is the man behind some artwork from Carey's previous, "Loverboy," and a single from "Glitter". It'll include footage of both Carey and the film.

The release date of the song just precedes the release of the movie which is an adaptation of the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. Set before the Judy Garland 1939 movie, it sees the rise of Oz himself, before Dorothy arrives. It stars James Franco as Oz, plus Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Zack Braff. Directed by Sam Raimi the narrative content is a far cry from his usual genres of horror and thriller. But judging by the teaser trailers that have been released, he's injecting an appropriately darker tone to the iconic children's story.

Can We Expect A Full Destiny's Child Reunion? What Are The Chances?

Destiny's Child Beyonce Knowles Kelly Rowland Michelle Williams

After a show-stopping half-time show at this year’s Super Bowl, what exactly does the future hold for Destiny’s Child? They’ve admitted that their new track ‘Nuclear’ was recorded in a hurry. Will they be trying to make amends by spending a bit more time in the recording studio and trying to better their back catalogue with a new slew of songs? Or was Beyonce merely using Michelle and Kelly as pawns in a bid to build the hype around her post-baby career and Super Bowl performance?

The bulk of the hype surrounding Beyonce (ok, putting aside all the lip-sync nonsense) was over whether or not the band would reunite for the performance. We all knew they would, of course and they did a terrible job of pretending otherwise but the build-up was half the fun. When it came to the actual performance, though, there was no pretending who the real star of the show was. Whilst Beyonce oozed sass and confidence, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams showed the nerves of two performers unused to performing to such a huge audience (let’s not forget the TV viewers at home, let alone those in the stadium) and ended up looking like little more than Beyonce’s hand-picked backing dancers / vocalists. Does Beyonce really need a Destiny’s Child reunion? We think not.

Looking at Beyonce’s recently announced tour dates, she’ll be heading off in a few weeks to start the tour on April 15 and won’t be done until August. The pop world is unforgiving and has a short memory - much of the Destiny’s Child reunion hype will have died down by then. Plus, as career driven as she clearly is, she will most likely want a bit of quality time with Blue Ivy and Jay Z once she’s done shaking her thighs all across the globe. Fun though that reunion was, we don’t think Kelly and Michelle should sit waiting for Bey’s call for too long.

Cryptic Comment? What Was Beyonce Telling Us With 'Can I Live' Sweater?

Beyonce Knowles Destiny's Child Jay Z Michelle Williams Kelly Rowland

Is this a cryptic comment from Beyonce? The Destiny’s Child singer has made no comment since she faced a barrage of abuse for apparently lip-syncing the national anthem at the Presidential Inauguration last week. On Saturday night, though, she posted a picture of herself on Instagram, wearing a sweater emblazoned with the words “Can I live?”

Was Beyonce asking, ‘will you let me get on with my life now?’ Or perhaps it was a play on whether or not she can sing live? It looks as though the photo was taken at a stadium, most likely the Mercedes-Benz Arena in New Orleans where her half time performance for this year’s Super Bowl will take place. Given that the singer hasn’t made any comment so far, we’re certain that she wanted to make some kind of statement over the drama surrounding her Super Bowl appearance, whether it was an implicit statement, or an ambiguous one. Having said that, she could just have been playing the loyal wife and helping promote her husband’s music, as Jay-Z has a song entitled ‘Can I Live?’

Anticipation is mounting over her Super Bowl performance now – not least because of the recent scandal. The Super Bowl entertainment is always a big deal, though usually the gossip / outrage (remember Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake?) comes after the performance, rather than before. Still, Beyonce’s never been one to do things by the book. It’s expected that she will be joined by her Destiny’s Child band mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams

Beyonce's Super Bowl Playlist Leaked Online: Yes Destiny's Child Will Return

Beyonce Knowles Michelle Williams Kelly Rowland

The setlist for Beyoncé's much anticipated Super Bowl halftime show has emerged online, confirming what many of us had expected all along: Destiny's Child will be returning to the stage to perform a medley of past hits, US Weekly have reported.

The leaked document states that Bey will open with 'Crazy In Love' before being joined midway through the performance by her Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to perform a three song medley that will include the hits 'Survivor', 'Bills, Bills, Bills' before ending the on-stage reunion with the new track 'Nuclear', which was released earlier this year. Beyoncé will then close the show by premiering her new song, which is yet to be unveiled to the public.

According to a source close to Beyoncé, speaking to Us, Mrs Jay Z can't wait to "knock them dead" in New Orleans next weekend, especially considering the fallout from her presidential inauguration performance, in which she was accused of lip-syncing. "She did sing," the source confirmed to Us, adding that there was a background track playing in tandem with Bey, but Beyoncé sang regardless. "The track was only there as a backup," the source added.

Alicia Keys To Perform National Anthem Before This Year's Super Bowl

Alicia Keys Beyonce Knowles Kelly Rowland Michelle Williams

Alicia Keys will perform at the beginning of this year's Super Bowl XLVII, taking to the field of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on February 3 to perform a rendition of the American national anthem, the NFL and CBS announced today.

Keys' performance will air on CBS just prior to kick off and will be the singer's third overall performance at American Footballs grandest platform, having performed in 2005 and 2008, each time appearing as part of the pre-game entertainment. The news of Keys' appointment joins the announcement that fellow R&B star Beyoncé will be serving as the half-time entertainment for the sporting extravaganza, with her performance increasingly being dogged by rumours that she will be joined on stage by her Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Last years Super Bowl, Super Bowl XLVII, drew in a massive audience of over 111.3 million viewers in the U.S. alone, making it one of the most-watched sporting programs of all time. It comes as no surprise then to learn that this year the NFL are pulling out all the stops to ensure that this year's final surpasses the massive target set by the last final. Both the pre-game and halftime entertainment is being overseen by the NFL Network Production, with Ricky Kirshner serving as the executive producer of the whole extravaganza. We already can't wait to see what's in store next year.

Michelle Williams Depression Revealed Ahead Of New Material

Michelle Williams Destiny's Child

Michelle Williams - one third of Destiny's Child - is set for a whirlwind few months with a new single about to be released, a new album in the pipeline and the national tour of a Broadway musical on the horizon.

However, it has become apparent that none of that would have been possible if she hadn't overcome a serious bout of depression, which she kicked aside with regular exercise, therapy and positive thinking. "I've dealt with depression," the 32-year-old said during a break in rehearsals for a new touring production of "Fela!" that kicks off later this month. "I had to choose to get out of bed and do whatever I needed to do to be happy." She also revealed that religion got her through some pretty tough times, but can't get you through everything. "We're taught, 'Just go to church and pray about it. The Lord is going to heal you.' Well, in the meantime, I believe God-gifted people, physicians, doctors, therapists -- that's your healing. Take advantage of it," she said. "Go see a professional so that they can assess you. It's OK if you're going through something. Depression is not OK, but it is OK to go get help."

Jan. 29 sees Destiny's Child release "Love Songs," a collection of previously released songs as well as a new track co-written by Williams, "Nuclear," the group's first new recording since 2004.

Destiny's Child 'Nuclear' Available Online - Does It Meet Expectations? (Video)

Beyonce Knowles Destiny's Child Michelle Williams Kelly Rowland

Destiny's Child haven't just promised to return, they really have. Their first single, called 'Nuclear', has been uploaded online today and the jury's out on the track so far.

Comments on the YouTube video are indecisive. Some are dubbing it very '90s, which it isn't really. To call it 'oldschool' even is inaccurate. While there are certain aspects of the track that are reminiscent of a Brandy track or two, the production is distinctly contemporary. Despite being an R&B group, there is something of underground alternative bands such as MS MR, or even (and we're pushing the boat way out here) School of Seven Bells, in there somewhere too. Of course the sultry tones of Beyonce, Michelle Williams and Kelly Roland keep it very much 'Destiny's Child'. Dreamy and low tempo but repetitive and with a catchy melody, it's primed and ready for remixes and acoustic covers.

Having said this, it's understandable for fans to be somewhat downhearted. Their music has reached a level of maturation that fans may not have wanted them to read. The days of 'Bootylicious' are not gone, per se, but it is certainly a product of the past. Beyonce is married and has a child now, while that isn't necessarily the be all and end all of being young and fun, singing a song with the lyrics "They want to know how we keep our sh*t together / They're wondering / It's just evolution / We're just getting better" makes sense.

Are Destiny's Child Trying To Pull The Wool Over Our Eyes?

Beyonce Knowles Destiny's Child Michelle Williams Kelly Rowland

The R&B world rejoiced this week with news that Destiny's Child are to return with new material. Though website and blogs - us included - have been banding about the words "comeback" and "reunion" with regards to Beyonce, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, are we all getting ahead of ourselves?

We do know that the multi-million selling trio have recorded a new track, 'Nuclear' produced by Pharrell Williams, though there's no guarantee the women were even in the studio at the same time and there's certainly no indication of further releases or live shows. In a week that has seen the surprise comeback of David Bowie, Beyonce posted an excited message on her website, "I am so proud to announce the first original Destiny's Child music in eight years!" she wrote. However, for now, all we know is that the girls have recorded the track to sell their forthcoming compilation album, Love Songs, set for release on January 29, 2013. The song closes out the new album, which comprises of the group's greatest love songs, including Second Nature, Now That She's Gone, Emotion and If You Love. It's difficult to envisage Beyonce teaming up with Williams and Rowland for anything substantial and she seems far more concerned with her fifth studio album, telling GQ recently, "I've been working with Pharrell and Timbaland and Justin Timberlake and [The] Dream. We all started in the '90s, when R&B was the most important genre, and we all kind of want that back: the feeling that music gave us."

In their first spell together, Destiny's Child became the biggest R&B group in the world with hits including Bills, Bills, Bills and Bootylicious and Survivor.

Destiny's Child Are Coming Back, 2013 Is Truly The Year Of Beyonce

Beyonce Knowles Destiny's Child Kelly Rowland Michelle Williams

We don't want to polarize Destiny's Child as being Beyoncé's and Beyoncé's alone, but she's definitely Queen B in more ways than simply nominatively. It was via her website that the official announcement that we'll be able to indulge in brand new Destiny's Child material in just a month's time was released. It's extraordinarily exciting piece of news, and one which is the cherry on the top of a Beyoncé Knowles 2013 dessert.

As well as the return of the band that brought us Bootylicious and Independent Women, advocating all aspects of the power of women, Beyoncé is continuing to take over the world, one enormous step at a time, Beyoncé's 2013 is really rather full. She'll be performing at the Superbowl half time show in February, she has also been in the studio with hubby Jay-Z recording new music for her own new album, plus she signed an enormous deal with Pepsi recently. It was reportedly worth $50m, and wouldn't just be a standard contract in which she traditionally appear in print and film ads, but one which included financial support from Pepsi to fund Beyoncé's creative projects. Plus, she'll be starring in an animated adventure from Blue Sky, called 'Epic' which will be released later in the year.

While Beyonce is, of course, amazing, we must turn to what can be expected from the new record. With pre-release sale price that would indicate it to be a full album, that much is clear. But with a name like 'Love Songs' what can be expected from it in terms of the most important aspect of any album: the sound. Will it be a return to the upbeat, strong, feminist sound of Survivor, or will Destiny's Child have toned down in their maturation after 8 years since their last original music was released? We suspect, given the music created most recently by Beyonce and Michelle Williams, for it to be a little softer. But, with Knowles, Williams and Kelly Rowland at the helm, whatever it is, it'll be great.

The Place Beyond The Pines Trailer: Ryan Gosling As Motorcycle Stunt Guy

Ryan Gosling Michelle Williams Eva Mendes Bradley Cooper Rose Byrne Ray Liotta

Here’s the trailer for the latest Ryan Gosling film, scheduled for release in April 2013. If you can’t wait that long for a slice of Gosling action, don’t worry too much because you can catch him in Gangster Squad, the film noir-esque gangster tale set in 1940s / 50s Los Angeles. For fans of his 2011 movie Drive though, The Place Beyond The Pines should strike a chord, as it features a familiar character background.

Directed by Derek Cianfrance (who steered Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams in 2010’s Blue Valentine), The Place Beyond The Pines tells the tale of Gosling’s character Luke, a bleach-blonde stunt motorcyclist (he also played a stunt car driver in Drive) who turns to crime when he discovers that he has a son to raise, that he didn’t know about and wants to provide for his child and partner (in Drive, of course, it was someone else’s partner that he tried to protect).

The Place Beyond The Pines is scheduled for release in April 2013 and also stars Ryan’s off-screen girlfriend Eva Mendes (playing the role of his on-screen girlfriend, no less), as well as Bradley Cooper, who had recent success in Silver Linings Playbook and the Bridesmaids star Rose Byrne. Oh and Ray Liotta’s in it too. Neat, huh?

James Franco Mila Kunis Rachel Weisz Michelle Williams Sam Raimi

Judy Garland's 1939 The Wizard of Oz was a Technicolor work of monumental cinematic genius. It somehow captured the spirit and imagination of children and adults alike, providing the right balance of wonder and terror, with a believable and endearing heroine, as well us a truly horrifying villain and her evil flying monkey minions. Oz: The Great and Powerful has just released it's theatrical trailer and in many ways it's a far cry from the original, but equally, the essence seems to remain.

Oz: The Great and Powerful stars James Franco as the eponymous accidental hero, a 'magician' from Kansas who is swept up, in a hot air balloon, in a terrible tornado and transported to the Land of Oz, where he is thought to be their fated hero. Things don't go to plan. The three good witches are played by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, and it is only these four main characters that appear as humans, all the rest are animated, in the vibrancy that pays homage to the original's Technicolor. The trailer gives clues and pointers that let the audience know that the movie is going to be touching and terrifying, much like the original.

The general look of the film, as it appears in the trailer, resembles the OTT Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland. However, where Burton massacred the original which didn't really need a remake (and saying massacred really is an exaggeration), Sam Raimi's Oz has the advantage of an entirely different story with almost entirely different characters. Because of this the movie has a real chance of being a gem, and we hope it is.

Are Fancy Visuals Enough To Save Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great And Powerful?

Sam Raimi James Franco Mila Kunis Michelle Williams Rachel Weisz

A new trailer for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful has been released online, ahead of its March release date.

This second trailer takes a more in-depth look at the story than the original cinematic trailer unveiled at ComicCon, despite the fact that it begins in almost exactly the same way as the first. The Evil Dead director has been taking his time over this movie. It started production back in July 2011, according to the Indiewire blog and Raimi will be hoping that all of the time and money spent on the movie has paid off. Not only is he toying with cinematic legend, by creating a spin off of The Wizard of Oz, but he’s doing so with some of the hottest names in Hollywood. James Franco stars as Oscar Diggs, whilst the witches are played by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz.

The response to the new trailer has been mixed so far. Indiewire are full of praise for Raimi’s efforts, going so far as to say that he could even put Tim Burton to shame. They’re impressed by the visuals, though that seems to extend to the ‘visual display’ provided by the three witches, as much as anything else, it has to be said.

Oz The Great and Powerful Trailer

Oscar Diggs is an ethically-challenged circus magician who seeks fortune and recognition for his tricks and illusions. One day he and his top hat are sent away from his home of Kansas in a hot air balloon but are subsequently caught up in a destructive storm which takes them to the magical land of Oz. Oscar is in awe of the dazzling place and mysterious creatures and begins to see Oz as the path to prosperity. He soon discovers that this is not so when he meets three beautiful witches Theodora, Evanora and Glinda who rightfully doubt his competence in the field of magic despite the rest of Oz believing him to be the powerful wizard they have all been waiting for. His awe of Oz is soon diminished as he discovers troubles of huge proportions in the land and finds himself struggling to work out who is on the side of good and who is on the side of evil. He uses his expertise in the art of illusion and showmanship to become the great and honourable Wizard of Oz.
