Oz The Great And Powerful European Premiere Lit Up By Michelle Williams (Pictures)

Oz The Great And Powerful hasn't had such a strong critical reaction in the United States when it was released at the tail end of 2012, but they'll be hoping for better things in Europe. The film - a prequel directed by Sami Raimi of the classic 1939 musical The Wizard Of Oz - is out in cinemas in the UK next week (March 8, 2013) and enjoyed its European premiere last night in London's Leicester Square, which saw all of the film's main players turn out as the British weather turned to spring.

Michelle Williams was leading the way of the stars in attendance. The actress looked absolutely stunning as she arrived wearing a strapless Burbury Prorsum peacock feather frock, which featured a black ribbon across the waist. She completed the look with with a pair of black platform heels.

James Franco was also in attendance, wearing an un-showy grey suit. Franco stars as Oz himself, who finds himself in the land that he'll eventually become chief wizard of, with the story following the narrative of how it was that Oz became the wizard of Emerald City. Other stars in attendance who are in the film included the ever stunning looking Mila Kunis, Zach Braff and Rachel Weisz, with director Sam Raimi also on hand at the premiere. They comfortably stood out from the motley selection of British celebrities that turned up for the event, including socialite Danielle Lloyd and The Saturdays' Una Healy.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly this week, director Raimi had admitted that he was extremely wary of doing disservice to such a legendary story. “The original is my favorite film of all time,” he said. "I didn’t want it sullied. I didn’t want to be involved in a production that might trade off the goodwill of that film, so I didn’t even want to read the script at first. Luckily I did. And then I realized that it wasn’t at all what I thought.”

The film premiered in the US back on Valentine's Day, but isn't out in the UK until next week. Currently sitting on a 57% fresh rating on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it looks like it'll have to be relying on the gravitas of the name behind it to be a success at the box office.
