Designer Scott had been in a relationship with Sir Mick since 2011 and designed the elaborate stage outfits for the Stones when they performed at Glastonbury last year. Her high-end fashion label was a favorite of Sarah Jessica Parker and the First Lady Michelle Obama, as well as comedienne Tina Fey and actress Nicole Kidman.

However, it has emerged that the label was in dire financial straits and Scott recently cancelled her London Fashion Week show, citing production delays.

In a heart-breaking statement, Sir Mick said he failed "to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way."

Last week, the Rolling Stones cancelled the Australia and New Zealand leg of their world tour, though announced a show in Israel for later in the summer.
