Mickey Rooney's Remains To Be Given To (A) His Lawyer Or (B) His Estranged Wife

Mickey Rooney

An LA judge is to decide the fate of the late Mickey Rooney’s remains after the actor passed away on Sunday. At the moment, the choice is between leaving Rooney’s remains with his lawyer, Michael Augustine, or his estranged eighth wife. According to court documents, Rooney has also left his modest estate to his stepson, Mark Aber. The actor had rewritten his last will, leaving his $18,000 (£10,726) estate to Mark who had served, with his wife, as his caregiver. His other stepson, Christopher Aber, is not mentioned in the will, having previously been sued by Rooney for elder abuse and fiscal mismanagement, BBC News reports.

Michael Augustine was granted a court order on Tuesday preventing Janice Rooney from removing the actor's remains from a mortuary in Glendale, California.

A massive movie draw back in his 1930's and '40s heyday, Rooney became one of the highest earning stars in Hollywood but was a product of the industry's old studio system and therefore was not entitled to hefty royalty payments from his extensive filmography. He felt it was appropriate to bequeath Aber, who had been his caretaker, all he had left. Rooney reportedly felt that his children were in better financial situations than the actor and ruled that he did not want any relative handling his final affairs.

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Review

Very Good
It's also long, long, long... well, you get the picture. Mad, Mad World is the brainchild of director Stanley Kramer, best known for films like Inherit the Wind and Judgment at Nuremburg, who figured he really ought to take a shot at directing a comedy, and what the hell if it's over 3 hours long (his first cut was 5 1/2 hours, actually). Kramer hired every comedian in Hollywood -- counting cameos represents Mad, Mad World's special thrill -- and sent them on a chase across southern California in search of $350,000 that a dying Jimmy Durante alludes to after a car wreck. The ensuing adventures stretch the definition of the word madcap.

Of course, this is what we owe movies like Cannonball Run to. But the original will always reign as the only two-tape comedy on the rental rack. Enjoy.
