He is no oil painting, but Mickey Rourke has signed up to star in a remake of MONA LISA.

Fortunately for the rubber-lipped actor, he will not have to master an enigmatic smile as the film in question is an updated version of the gangster flick which starred Bob Hoskins.

Rourke will reprise the Hoskins role of George, a gangster who is released from prison only to find that his standing among his colleagues has now diminished to such an extent that he has to work for a call girl named Simone.

After the pair strike up an unlikely friendship, George sets about tracking down one of Simone's friends who has gone missing.

However, this brings him into conflict with high-profile gangster Mortwell, played by Michael Caine first time around.

Bond girl Eva Green is said to be in discussion to play Simone.

Meanwhile, Rourke is said to be having a hard time losing weight for his role in IRON MAN II.

According to New York magazine, the star had to beef up for his part in THE WRESTLER, but is finding it tougher to shed it again.
