Miguel (born Miguel Jontel Pimentel; 23.10.1985) Miguel is an American R&B recording artist known for tracks such as 'Adorn' and 'Sure Thing'.
Childhood: Miguel was born in San Pedro, Los Angeles. His father is Mexican and his mother is African-American; they divorced when he was aged 8. He wanted to be a dancer at aged 5 but turned his attention to music when he hit his teens and learnt about production and recording before looking at finding a record contract.
Musical Career: Miguel signed his first production contract with Drop Squad at aged 15. Four years later he was signed by indie label Black Ice through which he began work on his album 'Young & Free'; however, the album never came to fruition and he soon abandoned his deal with the label. He signed with Jive Records in 2007 after Mark Pitts received the song 'Sure Thing' from his manager and later recorded his debut album 'All I Want Is You' but it's release was stalled for two years after he was sued by Black Ice for breaching his contract with them.
He made contributions to work by Usher, Asher Roth and Musiq Soulchild following that and also released his mixtape 'Mischief: The Mixtape'. After poor sales of his debut album, he toured with Trey Songz and Usher and two of his singles from the album 'Quickie' and 'Sure Thing' did well in the charts. Miguel was shifted to RCA Records following Jive Records disbanding and released his second album 'Kaleidoscope Dream' in 2012. It opened at number three in the US Billboard 200 chart and in the first week sold 71,000.
