The new trailer for the forthcoming sci-fi movie Jupiter Ascending - written and directed by the Wachowskis, who brought us The Matrix, and starring Mila Kunis, Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne - has appeared online.

Jupiter Ascending features Jupiter (Mila Kunis) as a cleaner who just might hold the keys to the universe. “You are in for a surprise when you find out what I do for a living”, Jupiter says. Unbeknown to her, evil intergalactic forces want her dead, prompting genetically engineered, former super-soldier Caine (Channing Tatum) to come down to earth and save her.

"I just need to know what in the hell is going on," Jupiter says at one point in the video. "I think we might have stumbled into a war with some of the most powerful dynasties in the universe," Caine answers.

The role was a "leap of faith" for Tatum "because so much of it is not known — like you have to take the movie not knowing I would say 89 percent of what you're going to be asked to do because it's a completely made up (world)." He added: "I'm a genetically engineered human and wolf or what would be a wolf. I don't know what that's going to look like. I'm just assuming that we're going to get to somewhere cool."

On the film’s presence amidst a sea of sequels and reboots, Channing said: "It's really, truly their own imagined sort of world and the circumstance that happens in the world. People always say that they're tired of seeing old movies remade and like comic book movies made. This is a completely out of the Wachowskis' brain type of a crazy film. So yeah, it's its own thing, for sure."

According to Kunis, Jupiter “was the most challenging role I've ever had, physically speaking. Because you had to endure seven months of physical training and sustain it. And test yourself and kind of test your patience with things. Because you get — I know you did for sure — you get frustrated with yourself when you can't do certain things." (U-T San Diego)

The film is the first from the Wachowskis after their audacious literary adaptation with Tom Tykwer, “Cloud Atlas,” which was based on the 2004 novel by David Mitchell and starred Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jim Broadbent

“It’s a science-fiction space opera. It has a lot of things from a lot of genres that we love. It’s got a lot of original action, it’s got a lot of romance,” explained Lana Wachowski when talking to Screenrant.com.

Ascending is a big project for the directing siblings, who need a return to prominence having not hit the heights of The Matrix again. And that was released way back in 1999.

They’re also working on a TV series for Netflix called Sense8, which will focus on eight people scattered around the globe – a closeted Mexican hunk, an Icelandic party girl, a German safe-cracker, a Korean businesswoman, an African bus driver and a transgender American blogger - who are connected by a shared, violent vision.

Jupiter Ascending opens in U.S. theaters on July 25th, 2014.
