It's a tough industry, show business, let alone if you have a trait or physical characteristic that leaves you out of the running for most parts before you've even auditioned. This is the experience that Hollis Jane and plenty of other 'Little Person' actors working in the industry face as they try to make a name for themselves without agreeing to humiliation or degradation.

Miley Cyrus' MTV VMAs Performance Has Received Yet More Criticism.

Hollis was hired to be a backing dancer in Miley Cyrus' controversial MTV VMAs performance. Dressed as a bear, she danced along to Miley and Robin Thicke singing and has revealed that it was one of the worst experiences of her life. Prompted by a friend's Facebook status commending Cyrus for hiring a little person guitarist in her SNL performance, Jane felt it was time the world knew how she felt.

"We can all agree that right now all Miley Cyrus wants to do is make society's jaw drop. So what's more "weird" or "freaky" than having little people parading around in your show?" Hollis wrote on Facebook.

"I was in Miley Cyrus' 2013 VMA performance as one of the background bears. I had never done anything in a costume with a mask like that before," she wrote on her blog. "I had never been in a performance where I was purely meant to be gawked or laughed at. I will never forget that performance because it is what forced me to draw my personal line in the sand [...] I walked out of the Barclay Center shaking and crying."

"I love being the center of attention, but that was something different," Jane continued. "I was being stared and laughed at for all of the wrong reasons. I was being looked at as a prop...as something less than human."

Elaborating upon how dehumanised she felt by her backing dancer role, she wrote "For the first time I felt truly ashamed of being a little person. We were being used simply because we were little. It felt like society still saw us as a joke, despite the fact there is literally nothing different about me other than the fact I am small."

Did Miley's Performance Take It A Step Too Far?

On a final note, she said "If the little person community continues to do performances like this, it is my belief that we will continue to only receive maybe 2% of the auditions and opportunities of our average sized friends. Society will think we're OK with being laughed at because we still continue to do things that allow them to laugh at us or look at us as props."

Miley Is Yet To Respond To Hollis' Blog Post.

As her blog post has become viral, making headlines across the world, Hollis has received an awful lot of internet hatred from those who blame her for taking the job in the first place and have hurled physically insulting comments her way. As a backing dancer for an artist with a strong P.R team, Hollis showed bravery in revealing her true feelings towards what Cyrus swears was just a fun performance that shouldn't have offended anybody.
