The homeless youth Miley Cyrus took to the MTV Video Music Awards as her date is wanted by police in his native Oregon for a probation violation.

The pop star pretended Jesse Helt was her new boyfriend as they walked the red carpet together at the Los Angeles prizegiving on Sunday (24Aug14), but he revealed his true identity when Cyrus sent him up onstage to pick up her Video of the Year Moonman trophy for Wrecking Ball to raise awareness about displaced youngsters across the U.S.

During his acceptance speech, he said, "My name is Jesse, and I'm accepting this award on behalf of 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth who are starving lost and scared right now.

"I know this because I am one of these people. I have survived in shelters all over this city... Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight."

However, Helt's newfound fame hasn't been all good for the blond - it has since been revealed there is a warrant out for his arrest in Oregon, relating to previous charges of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief, reports Eonline.com.

The 22 year old, who met Cyrus last week (ends22Aug14) at Hollywood shelter My Friend's Place, was also arrested and charged with burglary in 2010 after allegedly attempting to break into an Oregon apartment.

Court documents reveal Helt is accused of ignoring the terms of his freedom on numerous occasions by failing to keep his probation officer up-to-date on his whereabouts, failing to take a drug test, breaking his curfew and skipping out on his community service sentence requirements, among other issues.
