In a rich week for news, it was Miley Cyrus once again at the head of things with a hugely controversial new video. Elsewhere, Universal finally showed its hand with regards to Jurassic Park 4, and the Dumb & Dumber sequel got underway.
Wrecking Ball: Hurtling through the pop world this week like a.well, wrecking ball, is of course Miss Miley Cyrus. The 20-year-old, who's been mired in controversy over the past few weeks, has turned things up a notch with the release of her new video, a collaboration with Terry Richardson. Check out the Wrecking Ball Video Here.
Jurassic World: Just when you thought Hollywood was done with taking risks, out comes the release date and title for the fourth instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World. Directed by the relatively unknown filmmaker Colin Trevorrow (in blockbuster circles at least), this movie is sink or swim for Universal Pictures. Check out the Jurassic World details here.
Hall of Fame: Forget Letterman and Leno. Many television connoisseurs still consider Arsenio Hall the greatest of the late night television hosts and he made his case once again this week returning to syndicated television with a new show. Hall interviewed Paula Abdul, Chris Tucker and Snoop Dogg - it was like he'd never been away! Check out the reaction here.
Dumber, Still: We had Dumb & Dumber, the easily forgettable Dumb & Dumberer, and now we're getting even dumber with a sequel to Jeff Daniels' and Jim Carrey's classic comedy. Things are now well and truly under way with the new flick - find out how we know right here.
Osage for the Oscars: Anyone who has read the early Oscar predictions will know August: Osage County features in just about all of them. And so it should: it has Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Ewan McGregor. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this week, though there are doubts about its Academy potential. Read more about August: Osage County's Oscars bid here.
Slave Trade: In contrast, Steve McQueen's Oscars record led many to believe his latest effort 12 Years a Slave wouldn't challenge for the major awards this year. However, with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes following startling reviews in Toronto - people are beginning to take notice. Check out the 12 Years A Slave reviews and watch the trailer here.
Shipwrecked: Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Forget about it. It isn't happening next year. It may not be happening for a very long time given Disney's recent Lone Ranger disaster. Jerry Bruckheimer remains optimistic, though we just don't see it. Find out what's going on here.
Swift Work: It's looking like a straight up battle between Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves for the major prizes at the Country Music Association Awards this week, with both nominated for six gongs. See the full list of Country Music Association Awards nominees here.
Video of the Week: This week's video of the week comes from the Toronto Film Festival (sort of). It's the trailer for August: Osage County - the movie on everyone's lips at the moments. Can it win an Oscar, is it good enough? Make up your own mind.
