The Country & Western singer, Mindy McCready, has been found dead at her home in Arkansas with a fatal gunshot, The Guardian reports. A police news release said she was pronounced dead at the scene, "from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound".

McCready, who died at 37, couldn’t replicate the success she stumbled upon in 1996 when her album Ten Thousand Angels found its market. Guys Do It All the Time – the most famous track from the album – topped the U.S country charts, but despite another four albums over the following 14 years, that was as good as it got, musically.

Her struggle with drugs and alcohol was apparent and well documented. In May 2010, she was hospitalized briefly after police responded to an overdose call at a home. This followed a stint on "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew," where she declared herself clean from drugs. She is now the 5th person to die after appearing on that show. Reports suggest she shot the dog owned by her late boyfriend, David Wilson, before she shot herself. Wilson died last month under similar circumstances.

"I call my life a beautiful mess and organised chaos," she said in an interview with the Associated Press in 2010. "It's just always been like that. My entire life, things have been attracted to me, and vice versa, that turn into chaotic nightmares, or I create the chaos myself. I think that's really the life of a celebrity, of a big, huge, giant personality."
