Dog lovers Miranda Lambert and Hilary Swank have joined forces for a new Thanksgiving Tv special urging wannabe pet owners to adopt.

Double Oscar winner Swank will host and executive produce The Great American Dog-a-Thon, which will air on Thanksgiving night (27Nov14) in America, and Lambert, who runs her own pet rescue service, will perform.

The two-hour show will also feature reports from shelters and offer information on how to adopt or foster homeless hounds for the holidays.

Swank says, "I have long been an advocate for animal adoption and know first-hand the immense joy a shelter animal brings to our lives, yet every year, more than four million animals are euthanized because of overcrowding in shelters."

LeAnn Rimes, Betty White, Scarlett Johansson, Fergie, Josh Duhamel, Kristen Bell and Kesha will also appear during the Dog-a-thon.
