Mischa Barton, a former star of ‘The O.C.’, has been taken to hospital in Los Angeles for voluntary psychiatric evaluation following local police authorities responding to a disturbance at her home.

The British actress, 31, was attended by police and firefighters at her property in West Hollywood on Thursday (January 26th), after she was reported to have been climbing the fence wearing nothing but a shirt and tie.

A sheriff’s deputy told TMZ: “She was making incoherent statements that made absolutely no sense and she was transported to the hospital.”

Sources close to Barton said the star was “rambling about her mom being a witch, the world shattering… and Ziggy Stardust. At one point she fell backward off the fence and said, ‘Oh my God, it's over! I feel it, and it's angry!’”

Barton is reported to have co-operated fully with authorities and was taken under her own consent to a hospital in the city, where she is undergoing psychiatric evaluation.

Famous for her role as Marissa Cooper in ‘The O.C.’, which she held down for four years between 2003 and 2006, Barton has been placed in psychiatric care in the past. In 2009, she had threatened to kill herself, and opened up to People magazine in a 2013 interview about how she had ended up in that situation.

“It was a full-on breakdown. It was terrifying. I was never suicidal, I was just overworked and depressed. But one slip of the tongue in a heightened moment and you find yourself in that situation.”

She said she “was living a jet-set lifestyle” whose unseen pressures had eventually piled up on top of her. “There were a lot of enablers around, people to fly you around and make it all possible.”
