While certainly there are an increasing number of anti-royalists, The Smiths' Morrissey is leading the pack by blaming the Royal Family, and particularly Kate Middleton, for the tragic death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha.

Jacintha Saldanha was the nurse who picked up the phone to two Australian radio pranksters, pretending to be the Queen while Kate Middleton was in hospital suffering with severe morning sickness. She put the call through to the ward and is was broadcast, the following day the story had broken around the world to reactions of both amusement and outrage. Contact Music has repeatedly reported that the search for blame is a futile one, Morrissey seems to have complete conviction that the blame lies with the Royal Family, reports 3News in New Zealand.

"The arrogance of the British Royals is staggering. Absolutely staggering." He said, questioning whether Kate's health problems were real, "Does she have a health condition? Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy? We don't know. . Morning sickness already? . and suddenly she's bright as a button as soon as this woman dies? It doesn't ring true." As well as saying that the Palace and Clarence House must've piled a lot of pressure on Ms Saldanha, he completely brushed over the radio station and the DJ's responsibility in the matter. To be fair to Morrissey he also lay some of the blame at the door of the press, saying "I'm sure the British press hounded this woman, to her death."

In the 20 minute interview he said: "Even with the nurse killing herself there is no blame placed on Kate Middleton, who was in the hospital as far as I can see for no reason. She feels no shame about the death of this woman." While it's enormously ignorant to assume the emotions of another, we've no doubt that at the very least Kate Middleton knows the name of the nurse, while Morrissey apparently doesn't. Plus, although his conversation revolves around Ms Saldanha's death, his focus is in fact very pointedly at the Royal Family, which is in itself enormously disrespectful.

While we truly love The Smiths, and Morrissey's politicised outbursts can often be amusing, his comments are staggeringly ignorant and staggeringly arrogant.
