Star Wars: The Force Awakens received the most nominations for this year’s Mtv Movie Awards, after being selected in a total of 11 categories ahead of next month’s ceremony in Los Angeles.

Having been snubbed in all five of its categories at the Oscars recently, with no recognition in any of the acting categories or for Best Picture, the slightly more irreverent and pop culture-oriented MTV Movie Awards may see the record-breaking film get better luck.

23 year old female lead Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, heads up The Force Awakens’ showing, as she was nominated in the Best Female Performance, Best Hero, Best Breakthrough performance and Best Fight categories. Fellow young star John Boyega was also selected in the Best Breakthrough category with his co-star, and in Best Action Performance for his role as the Stormtrooper-turned-good Finn.

The J.J. Abrams-directed film will also compete in the Movie of the Year and Best Cast Ensemble categories when the 25th annual awards ceremony happens on April 10th, hosted by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart.

The MTV Movie Awards’ executive producer Casey Patterson said in a statement on Tuesday (March 8th) as the nominations were announced: “It’s about blockbuster movies that audiences line up to see; comedies, superheroes, science fiction, fantasy action.”

The other movie to perform strongly is the current box office hit Deadpool, which picked up a total of eight nominations, including for its stars Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin.

Recent Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio, amusingly, is picked in the Best Fight category for his on-screen grapple with a bear in The Revenant.

Fans can vote online for their preferred winners now, until the deadline on March 20th.
